Help needed!..3.2Q DSG Hesitant engine ~ 2k rpm

Well......not the result i had hoped for but a definite improvement !!
The hesitation on the road seems cured but i have only done 12 miles...
Stationary i'm not so sure. It seemed ok when i picked it up but when i got home it was popping in the pipe at 2k revs..but i can sort of hold 2k revs which is an improvement. I switched off, re started and it seems perfect but then after a minute it went back to popping..
I find that if i increase revs slowly from 1k too 2k it holds 2k well. If i rev too 3k and drop too 2k it pops in the pipe...

that said its about 75% better but i will reserve judgement until i have done some miles.its possible i have a secondary ignition problem and it may pay me to fit the new iridium plugs and 6 coil packs i have in the boot ( I had hoped to ebay them as they are brand new) :)

As for Guildford Audi ? well he asked would i be paying by cash or card and i said neither, this is down to Audi GB and he later confirmed that it was done under "goodwill".. but then they said there was nothing wrong with it 6 months ago and their was no ECU upgrade and they supplied the car...So i doubt others will get it done free there.

I cant say they were happy about any of it and their attitude to this whole problem stinks. Not just Guildford Audi but Audi GB as well..
I dont however think this is a Audi only problem, I don't suppose the service from any of the big makes would be any better as they are more often linked by the same company groups anyway. the real difference with Audi is you are paying top dollar for a top dollar service and you simply don't get it IMHO..
Would i buy another audi....Yes if pushed because i feel i have been unlucky and would a BMW really be any better ??

I will report back after a few more miles but in short, its a fix worth doing even if you have to pay but bear in mind the original fault might have now caused other faults,, i noticed on the service sheet the guy was holding, something about Lambda sensors..:hubbahubba:

Just been out to try it now the traffic has calmed down a bit and i have to say while it still intermittently pops you can hold 2k if your careful stationery..BUT..mid range ie coming off roundabouts i can light up the traction control light and you can feel the ESP kick in with the juddering grip which it didnt do before !!. the pick up is a lot cleaner and the throttle response much quicker. amazing what a difference a little over fueling was making to this car.. i thought it was starnge that i got 251bhp before and after the remap on the RR...I would guess now i have the full benefit of the remap...Would be really interesting to put it back on the RR now !!

****** dealers, they really do spoil the brand image don't they!
At least the underlying map problem is fixed now and you can look for what else is causing problems, hopefully it will be easier to find. I know you will be checking the software coding so any fresh fault codes?
Still think the dealer flash will have overwritten the remap though!

Sounds good and to answer your question paddy about lambas yes that is an issue. I have the audi issue sheet they give to dealers that goes with rhe cd. Mentions 2 vag com error codes to look out for then to replace the pre cat lambas and do the map....

Something about lambas heating up too fast......

Yea that was it Jonathan..over heating lambdas

If it did over ride the re map Ju then it shows how crap the re map was !!

My thinking was they certainly dont over ride the original map with the re map or this update would have been installed with the remap...

Well, done about a 100 miles and no sign of the hesitation so success their, Cheers Ju :)
Still got the random misfire at start up for approx 1 minute this morning...first time its done that for 10 days :-(

Have to say it goes like a scolded cat now if you keep it in a power band between 4k and 6k...lol ...like a new car :)

This is interesting..

This is my start up log today first 10 seconds and last 10 seconds of a 1minute run after which it cures t self and runs fine.....Showing misfire per cylinder and totals..

Cyl 1-5 have twice the misfire rate as 2-3-4-6l

It is interesting Paddy but tbh the only thing I can think of is the temp sender. Can't see it being plugs or coil packs as it wouldn't affect all of them. What does the ECU do different at cold start up, just increase the fueling or does it alter the timing as well?

Maybe worth starting a new thread to gain some new interest!

Hi,

Mine is getting ECU part number 022 997 033 KX ......... Have been advised that's suitable for my car and that it will have the most upto date software on......

Hopefully I should be pretty chuffed when I get it back!

Paddy, glad you've lost the hesitation and got some poke back. Sure you will get the misfire sorted.

Thanks Sarah but i think its beaten me this time ! Audi don't know what to do and neither do I in fact the service manager said flog it which is not very helpful.
So there we have it !! 45k miles on the clock and it is effectively and "ex" car. Perfect condition. full service history and more. It probably has a 50p sender fault but i cant be bothered to spend £150 an hour to have a bunch of Audi cowboys play about with it and then after 10 hours tell me they cant find the problem...

Aw thats such a shame!!! Surely someone on here must know!! Are there no mechanics that specialise in Audis!!!!!!!!

Well if audi cant fix it what chance do i stand ...lol. If it was a motorbike i would have it running like a song, no worries. Trouble is now...what to do with it.

Thats a shame mate, lovely car too, great engine normally, had an R32 before an loved it!
Can you not get audi to look at it but only £150 an hour if they find the fault an fix it? Like if they dont, 0 charge?

LOL if only!

Don't lose heart Paddy, all those months I went through thinking I would never get it running right and then bingo it's fixed.
You not got any decent independents nearby with proper mechanics? Think you'd probably get a better service from one tbh.
Unless of course you're thinking it's time for a change anyway!

Thanks for the information guys. Still looking into getting the update installed, my problems only seem to be minor compared to others but would be interested in seeing the difference.

Am having a spare key coded through a local independant specialist who has said that he will try and get Audi to install any updates FOC whilst it is there so fingers crossed.

Paddy - don't lose heart. I've read this thread over the last 3 weeks and i really feel for you guys - light at the end of the tunnel for some.

I'm sure there must be something simple here, but of course you have to find the source.

It reminds me of my old Audi 80 - 12 months old and everytime i put the steering on full lock to park the engine would cut out. Audi couldn't find anythign wrong. Took it to local indi, and he hooked it all up to the Bosch diagnostics, said it was the best engine he'd seen for effiecincy and emissions. Couldn't find a fault anywhere. Took all the diagnistic kit off and the problem never happened again. I could only put it down to the fact he'd placed the Bosch sensors into various parts of the wiring loom, and breaking/reconnecting the factory connections somehow cleared the issue. Didn't charge me for the 2 hours they spent on the car either.

VAGCOM is a great tool, but often it just throws up too much information - there's a lot to be said for good old fashioned problem solving, checking the basics like spark plug gaps, condition (colour of the ceramic tip), filters, leads etc. Not much of a suggesion but maybe try disconnecting/reconnecting any connections you can see on the loom in case one is a bit dodgy with age.

Hi all- I'm after some pretty urgent replies/help.

I've just got off a 3 hr train journey to pick up the 3.2 that I previously mentioned o. This thread only to be told by the (non-audi) dealer that they cannot release the vehicles as it has the hesitation isue and their local VAG specialist can't resolve it. Try want to keep it for a few more days to replace the injectors. I got them to check lambdas, plugs, temp sensors, coils everyhrhing mentioned above. The dealer reckons the specialist put the latest update on- I said bullsh!t it has to be done at Audi. Now what should I do... Let tem change the plugs (nice freebie) and the update ecu(at guilford) when I pick it up? Demand that they fix it at audi? or walk away all togeher?

Sorry for bad spelling but I'm am steaming with anger after travelling tk Mansfield fromReading, via London and nottingham!!! Free!

Thoughts/help asap please!

Thanks all!

I'd demand they take it to Audi for the updates first, especially if it saves them time and money with not having to do the plugs etc. If its the car you want then put your foot down or let them do the work and see how it is after that, if its the update then sooner or later they will have to get it done! Good luck, hope you get it resolved.

This is the update you need. It can only be installed by an Audi dealer

TPL procedure number: 2005748/4
Internal message code 8P01A005
updates CD No. 4F0 906,961 N

Get them to install that straight away and tell them to "deliver" the car as soon as possible. these people have contract drivers that take cars all over the country for them and as they have messed you about they can dam well start offering some kind of service !!

Thanks for your words of support :) ikts a sign of the times when the modern car becomes so technologically advanced in order to meet emissions targets and fuel consumption that the main dealers are stumped. As you say it could well be a connector but i suspect the map. It had slowly got better over the months and up until last Friday it had not messed about for 10 days. Then i had the flash done and now it plays up ever start from cold morning and eve. still the same symptoms and you can drive through it as it only last for a mile or so...

Strange day...Car messed about this morning as usual so thought...thats it..had enough.
Searched the web with Audi used car search and turned up a Black S3 DSG Jan 10 with every extra... £31k, 10 miles up the road at Epsom Audi.
Well 5 miles in to the test drive that made me realise how ****** excellent the 3.2 is. As a drivable engine it leaves the turbo S3 cold and performance wise at speeds up to 70mph...? nothing in it IMHO. The bottom end tractability of the V6 is way ahead of the off turbo low speed pick up of the S3 and being DSG the ****** thing just would not pull, even +10% without dropping down the box.

Anyway this convinced me for sure i have to fix the 3.2. so its booked back into Audi...again for a possible complete start again map. Its got 10x worse sinse the flash last week !! so i am hoping its map related.
Watch this space :)
Mean while...enjoy your 3.2's because now they are no longer made i doubt you will find another car like that again with the silly emission laws and fuel prices rising..

Paddy, Sarah, and anyone that hasn't lost the will to live ...

When I originally noted the issue (on the first test drive) i told him how to resolve the issue i.e. the audi update and gave him all of the details that he needed. Bascially they decided to try and get it done at a local VAG specialist, which we all know isn't possible- but he didnt believe me. Anyhow, as I described in my frantic post above, the VAG specilaist then started his own hunt to resolve the issue as the "update" he apparently did didnt solve the issue (no suprise there hey ;)). anyway, so this VAG specialist has tried everyting and anything and came to the conlcusion it must be injectors and/or throttle bodies. So, I give him his due, he is trying everything everyone has tried here! but it doesnt get away from the fact that I told both him and the delaer to take it straight to Audi. So I have now demanded (both in writing and over the phone) that once this VAG specialist has finished installing the throttle bodies and they discover that it hasnt resolved the issue, that i goes directly to Audi. he still seems to think it wont need it. my patience is runnign thin. I work in the area of fuel and engine oil so have a pretty good understanding of some of the thing i have been discussing, but he doesnt seem to want to listen. We will soon see....

And now for the best bit.... the head salesman tried to tell me that if the cost of these repairs gets to big (i.e. above the margin on the vehicle) they will have to cancel the sale and sell it on at trade auction. Which i think is complete balony (sp?)! As far as I can tell from reading the T&Cs they are now contractually obliged to provide me with the goods. I cannot believe the cheek- I have told them to save all of their profit and do the Audi update, but they just won't listen! to me it seem obvious to try the cheap thing (the update) that some knows works. The frustrating thing is, I also told them I am happy to take the vehcile away and do it myself after the sale- but they wont do that, as the "issue" is present at the time of sale and they are worried about the liability associated with selling a vehcile thats isnt "right"

ahhh frustration. the guy selling me the car is a top bloke and the car is exactly what im looking for, so dont want to let it slip through the net. Its a great car- nothing wrong at all. I would just have been a nice bonus to have the update done before i picked it up- and now im stuck in a frickin stalemate!

Im due a call tomorrow lunch time to inform me of the success (haha! yeah right!) of the new throttle bodies! oh yeah ive obviously demanded OEM parts and recepits/invoices for all work.

Anyway, enough ranting for now. i'll keep you all posted.

Good luck rob...The plus point is they accept it has a fault which is a position non of us managed with audi over the last year. Hope it works out because it is a superb car once its fixed so its worth sticking with the fight if you can.

Keep us updated :)

What a bunch of monkeys! Keep calm and wait for what you know will be said tomorrow. Just keep telling them you want the car and its the update! Maybe it will eventually sink in!! G+Fingers crossed for you.

Can't wait to get mine back!!!!!!! 2 weeks now!

Yes the 3.2 is a lovely drive on the whole!

My hesitation has gotten considerably worse over the past few weeks - I hope I have the right ECU for the update as it sounds like this needs to be made as straight forward as possible for AUDI :(

Jonathan

I didnt realise they had yours....whats the score ??

Well, I spoke to the guys at the non-audi dealership on friday and guess what.... they ordered the wrong chuffing throttle bodies. Grrr... so they re-ordered the right ones on friday afternoon. These were due yesterday.... so all being well they will be installed on monday. Anyone have any ideas how long it take to install throttle bodies on the v6? how many does it run; one per bank, or one per cylinder?

i'll keep you posted.

Rob.

To remind me that I haven't got my car yet, all my polished bliss stuff arrived ready for a good clean/detail this weekend... maybe that order was a little premature!

Takes 10 minutes to change and there is only one, won't make any difference though!

Only thing that will work imho is the update, I tried everything apart from a new engine lol!

yeah... tell me about it! I reckon i've explained it to them in excess of ten times... it's just taking a bit of time for them to accept that i needs to go in to audi! I'm not sure why though, I've been nothing but polite and helpful in order to get the problem fixed and get me my car! my first audi!

Rob

What's replacing it Coxy?

Did the new software update sort yours in the end?

I am buying a VW Caravelle mate!
Bit of a change I know, but it suits my lifestyle.

My car is fully sorted in every way, engine is a dream now. shame it got fixed just before I have to sell it.

Cool, good luck with the sale! Looks a very good spec!

Another satisfied customer of the new software. Any hesitation it had is completely gone. Why its not offered by Audi I don't know, the dealership that did it wanted some feedback so they could take it back to Audi. Anybody know anything about the history of this software and why it was brought about but not offered?

Regards

Rob

Hi rob thts great news! Which dealership did you use? I need to get mine done.

Cheers,

Rob
