As some of you may know, i recently bought a RNS-E off ebay. It turned out i had bought a A6 version by mistake.
But the photo showed it to be a A4 one.
So i won this on the 31/3. It was meant to be sent next day recorded. I paid £20 for delivery, and it came today. 48hour parcel force, uninsured and badly packed.

That is the picture from the auction, a A4 one. Narrow gap between the edge of the unit and the screen. Silver peice running along the bottom. The auction says "it has a small scratch on the bottom of the screen about 1.5 inches long".
Not obvious in the photo?

That is what i received, clearly a A6 one. No silver strip, larger gap between the edge of the unit and the screen and a VERY noticable scratch.

Plus it seems to have been ragged out.

What do you think guys, a good reason to claim against him?

Mate I would put in a claim straight away, if the seller was claiming next day delivery/insured etc and it was sent without this. You should be entitled to at least the post. Also if the units damaged I would claim. Try and resolve it with the seller also. I won a set of B7 rear lights the other day and they turned out to be A6 lights when they arrived. The seller refunded my money, so its worth a try talking to the seller.

I've been emailing him about the fact it hasn't come till today. He actually started swearing at me and being very rude. I think it is highly unlikely he wil be willing to refund without a fight.
Despite it being so unbeleivably obvious they're not the same items!

Got an email back saying he will not refund as the auction says there is a scratch and it's for an A6. All that aside, its not the one in the photo.

If you paid by PayPal then claim through them advising the seller is not willing to discuss your concerns about the item description and the listing picture was mis-leading and not the item that was sold to you!

I paid through paypal, but all disputes now have to go through ebay.
I've put one in, but he just replies saying i am lying and it is most deffinalty the same item.

Are you 100% sure - I have just checked one of my recent Ebay transactions on the PayPal details page (that was actually OK) and there is a link "Resolution Centre" which leads me into disputing the transaction if not as described, or not received, etc.

If you click item not as described, it takes you to ebay.

OK - not actually had to do a dispute on a transaction recently.

Advise Ebay that the RNS-E chassis is bent so is not as described - there was no mention of this in the listing?
Take a good quality picture of the unit in your possession to show it against the Ebay listing picture - try and match the angles and scale accordingly and show the discrepancies in the A4 model shown against the A6 model received, i.e. the front bezel sizes.

You can claim your money back, just start the dispute with ebay ands paypal. One of them will be able to help. Keep all emails sent and received

All emails have been through ebay, so all is recorded.
I've raised the issue with ebay but they're pretty useless. The guy just told me to get my eyes tested, it is the same item. Apparently his pc distorts the photos so they look abit different pmsl!

Deffo go through the claims procedure mate as its clearly not an accurate listing. Ebay wrongly tends to side with buyers but it works for you. If it was as described then you would have been stuck with the A6 unit so could be a blessing. Dudes that get aggressive about returns usually have something to hide, sounds a bit of a pond life.

He was swearing at me in ebay emails about the fact it took well over a week to come when I paid for nextday delivery.
I'm in full acceptance it says scratched and for an A6. But the picture leads you to beleive the scratch is very fine, unnoticable and that it's actually an A4 one. But the item is not that picture.

Out of interest, does anyone disagree with what i'm saying and can't see the difference? I am willing to be wrong you see.

dont send anything back untill ebay instruct you too through the claim, also record ALL messages to and from the seller as evidence, copy and patse the listing into your report, along with the photo you have taken to show that the scratch does indeed show up on a pic. be very presise and very descriptive about his listing beinf false, therefore fraudulant, also state other damage to the unit that isnt listed.
really push the fact that it isnt the one in the photo ( im sure you mentioned that you deffo asked him if it was ) then theres your evidence right there.
did you get the code for the unit ??? if not then its no good to you anyway, therefore maybe an idea to state that you believe the unit maybe stolen as there is no code , wrong one from picture, extensive damage to the bracketry on removel etc etc its going to be a long ride but you WILL win. end all corospondence with the seller as hes being abusive and un helpful and that you feel threatened by him.
all of the above will ensure you to get a refund, but again dont send back untill instructed, just incase the seller closes his account and does a runner. do as ebay request and your moneys safe as your now dealing with them now ( although there systems a pain in the **** ) still better than dealing with the scum who sold it you .

There's points on both sides here! He's sent you something other than what's in the photo but, to be fair, is as described and was indeed for an A6. Stick to your guns though and you should be fine.

OK, the photo is wrong, but it states twice in the Auction that it's for an A6 and it states there is a scratch 1.5" in length on the screen. You have got him on the P&P but the description is fair and it does state you cannot see the scratch on the picture (You ever would do as the pic is for the A4 unit) I think you may struggle on this one but I hope you get it sorted.

You have him on the postage the damage he will say was done by the post office but you paid for insurance he did not send it insured so you win there. also he states it is bluetooth built in it is not as you have to buy the bluetooth module you win there. The scratch is more like a scrape and is not in the picture as this is not the unit so is being wrongly described as he does not state picture for ilustration purposess only hope this helps.

If you have his address I would pay him a visit and knock him out. Failing that I would go the ebay claim route

I'm ginger, the chances of me knocking anyone out are slim.

The guys a liar through and through. He claimed he sent it on the 31st originally. Yet the news paper in the box he used to package is dated the 2nd.

I think it will be a stuggle. My problem is, i saw the listing. Saw the photo thought, a mistake has been made here i'll take the chance. If it'd come and there'd been a scratch like he claimed. I'd have acceptd that and bought a new front panel and I would have sat down and carefully swapped it over. I was ok to face that problem. But when it came and the scratch is bad, clearly obvious and he's used a photo of a different unit to cover it. But sadly been too stupid to realise its a different unit.

I'm dealing with a chap who spells 'sure' shure. I'm worried.

Do not give in with Ebay/PayPal - bide your time - problem will get resolution one way or the other.
Fight your case based on,
1. Picture not of item listed or received
2. Other damage not stated in listing - which may suggest item is stolen?
Remember you are the victim here.

The chassis being bent - do you think it would fit back in an A6 without any repair? If not then this is another aspect to list against the seller.

If your PayPal payment was linked directly to a credit card then you can maybe recover the money this way - although PayPal will not be happy if you take this route.

I have put the two photo's into Photoshop and resized them to same approximate proportions based on the screen as the reference and then merged the two images to make comparisons.
Tweaked the brightness & contrast of the Ebay picture to show any imperfections in screen.
There is absolutely no evidence of the "deep" scratch and the bezels are clearly different sizes.
With a bit more time could probably match these units up more precisely - but no Photoshop expert!

Cheers for that fella, I'm glad it's not just me lol

Thats a pain in the a$$ for you there BlackQuat!

I would definatly open a dispute if you haven't already as the picture he used were misleading as the picture is of an A4 unit.

Just reading through his ebay listing maybe it got damaged and scratched when he "rooled" the car!

Good luck mate hope you get it sorted

He has now said he will refund the full amount upon return of the item and if it's in the same condition as when he sent it. He claims the bent body is down to me trying to fit it to my audi a4. Which is just madness. He is still claiming it's the right picture and I'm a liar lol.
I wonder if he knows how stupid he looks?
Now i dunno what to do, do i return it and he will say no it's in worse condition from when he sent it and not refund (which I can fully see happening)

no ! dont send it back yet ! thats exactly what he will do ! explain all these concerns in the claim to paypal/ebay, make it clear ! wait for them to tell you to return it.

Ok I'll hold out. If i don't have the code (which i don't) Is there a way of retreiving it?

Audi can determine your radio code if you supply them the serial number and prove it's fitted in an Audi - or show them your V5 document.
I did this with a Concert II that came with my A4 as the code I was given originally by the Audi garage was wrong - card was lost by the dealer!

If it's stolen then you will soon know......
:busted_cop:

If he gives me 50 quid, the unit stands me at £262 I could just flog it on, but be honest unlike he was.
What do you think to that chaps? He's offered to give me the vin of the car it came off. So i can go to audi with that. I've seen he's sold other bits off and A6 so i suspect its not stolen.

Plus I have the cd changer to sell too.

yeh, if ya do the maths, probably a good outcome.
go for it ! but dont end dispute untill the 50 notes is in your account AND the code gets sorted.

cant the sides be cut down like the aircon units so it will fit and dont need to replace the front.

I did wonder that A4 Nut, but the bit above the screen is smaller on the A6 version.
I've sourced a front panel, found out the screens can be got quite cheap from a vauxhall too.
I'll let him put the money in my account and make sure i get the code or at least the VIN.

I rang audi and they offered it for free. Which is nice!

Just an update, i took the offer of £50. Ordered a new facia and got all the relevant wiring.
Now it bugs me when i press TEL it does nothing... I think I've got the bug.
