First ever detail - and wheel wax advice needed

'Washed' the new car today (2001 A6 Avant tdi in Ebony Pearlescent) after reading some excellent guides on here:icon_thumright:

Pre-wash (karcher)
2bucket wash with new lambs wool mitt
Shammy dry (new towel in the post)
Megs clay with quick detail lube (first time i've ever clay'd a car and very scared but went well)
Poorboys Black hole (perfect for the ebony paint)
and finally Poorboys Natty's Paste Wax Blue

all in with some lunch about 5 hours work (that's a big roof!!!) very impressed with the results of the poorboys kit and the wife almost agreed it was worth the effort!

Now on to my question; i've got some new alloys arriving in the morning (fingers crossed) now is it a good idea to give these a good wax before i get the tyres fitted?
And is the poorboys natty blue ok to use? (have got a bottle of megs cleaner/wax that came in the clay kit otherwise)

I think Poorboys wheel sealant is just excellent! Really does a good job of protecting whilst giving a good shine! -brake dust deposits really do just wipe off with ease with this stuff. Remember to apply the product to the inner part of the alloys too! Makes cleaning a doddle!

I agree... Poorboy's Wheel Sealant would be the best choice, but in its absence a coat or two of the Natty's Blue would also greatly help to prevent brake dust from sticking, and will certainly make the weekly clean much easier. Just remember to reapply on a regular basis.

cheers guys, yeah if i'd planned this properly i would have ordered some PB wheel sealant - but in it's absence Natty's Blue will have to do.

just to let you know i have 'kerbed' both nearside alloys and am frankly devistated!!!

don't ask how as i'm still having flashbacks but the end result is severe grinding to half of front and rear alloy (uhhh i feel sick talking about it)

any tips on refurbing myself (on a budget now)

Is just paint loss or is it deeper than that??? You can get repair kits and try to spray yourself but can be a ****** to colour match! There are plenty of mobile refurbs out there that arnt too dear! Feel for you! Good job it wasnt the wife that did it eh!! Hope you get them sorted soon.

much deeper, looks like i've had the angle grinder on them!!! might just try and touch up for now and get them done properly at later date. Colour match is biggest prob, googled a bit and people recomend a wurth paint that matches most German stuff (VAG bm porsche etc) they are genuine audi alloys but main deeler don't do touch up at all.

Ps the wife doesn't drive (it could have been worse!!) no she would have just rubbed a curb parking wheras i slid off a roundabout at 40mph!!!

Ouch! yeh not good! Hope you manage to get them sorted, touch up for now, takes it away from keep catching your eye!
