Red T? Silver T?

Tomorrow I'll be picking up a 2.0 TFSi that I've purchased. When viewing I noticed the rear "2.0T" badge had a red "T" instead of the silver T I usually see on other A3's.

Just wondered if this is purely cosmetic difference or is there some meaning behind it?

Dont really know for sure but this is what I heard about mk4 golf tdi's...

In the 1.9 PD you had the 105 bhp, 130, and 150 (or something like that). The 150bhp version had the D and I in red. The 130bhp had the I in red, and the lesser 105bhp had the whole 'TDI' in silver.

This is rumour tho lol so could be completely wrong. If its right then maybe the 2.0T has 2 different power versions? Or maybe VAG had some extra red paint laying around?

The GTI had the 2.0 naturally aspirated which had 'GTI' all in silver, and the 1.8T GTI had the T and I (or maybe just the I) in red. Apparently. lol

I did read somewhere that they offered a "hot version" which was slightly more tuned/powerful. They gave this one a red T instead of silver. Apparently!

I know it ain't all that important, but you know how it is when you get a new car, you wanna know all the ins and outs of it.

ALL 20TFSI of that vintage in stock tune are 197bhp.
The colour of the `T` makes no difference to bhp output.

Have no idea why the badges are different, I do know it has nowt to do with engine spec.

Yours will have 250bhp when you get yourself to the local REVO guy anyway, so who cares.

This is the sort of thing H5djr would know, hes a bit of an oracle on these little details.

When I had my 8L 1.8T Quattro it was of the 180BHP variety - same engine as the Golf Anniversary. The T badge was red on mine and the standard 1.8T (150bhp non-quattro) A3's had a silver T.

The Mk5 Golf Diesels also had something similar going on - the GT TDI (150bhp i think?) had a red T on the TDI badge...

Aythree, your 2.0T - is it a quattro? The red T as far as AUDI are concerned may point to the fact the car is quattro - although you'd think that was what the quattro badge was for...

I had an 06 A3 2.0T Quattro manual special ed and it too had the red T.

I agree with the above and would say I'm fairly convinced the red T has some relation to Quattro equipped models...

Just an opinion but it was something I always wondered so if someone in the know has the answer I'd be interested to hear!

If i remember correctly, on my golf the red letters would denote the type of engine you had. so if it was just TDI it was the 130 bhp and if its the TDI its the 150 bhp... something like that.
no idea why Audi would want to bring that back now though??

Nope, not in UK. The 150pd had the GTI badge with red I.

In Europe it had all red TDI.

Possible, as it looks better in red!

the PD150 actually had all three in red, the 130 DI in red, and PD100 all silver. But the PD115 also had a red DI. That was on the Bora, on the Golf PD150 its more confusing.

On VAG petrol engines however it has no bearing at all.

This is correct... Pre 2007 cars had the Red T on the back and post 2007 have the Chrome T.

With regards to the Mk4 Golf GTi badges they meant nothing. The dealers fitted them when they were PDi'd before delievery and there was no set requirement, just whatever that dealer fitted at the time.
