Concerned - driver airbag question

...dammit sorry, hit wrong key and it posted.

My concern arises because I recently bought an RS6 FBMFSW for my 2009 A3. It came with no airbag, which was initially fine because I had one lined up. Or so I thought. Turns out the "airbag" was only a cover, which I declined. But now I need an airbag, a round one, for this wheel.

There's a few out there online to be had, for sure, but I can't tell if some are the dreaded "single stage" as opposed to the later "dual stage." And do all round ones fit????? For example, would a round A8/RS8 be compatible? I've spent the better part of this afternoon searching this question and can't get anything that is really the last word.

Any guidance from you guys across the pond would help....would seem you certainly know your stuff, and my tolerance for frivolous BS answers right now on the other forums is at an end......

Hi welcome to Audi sport

As far as i am aware all round airbags that fit the FB wheels are 2 stage.IE: everything after 2007. You can check because although the plugs are the same , the 2 stag bag has 4 wires to the plug instead of just 2. I dont think airbags are specific to cars so the fact its on a A8 does not matter. Its the bag to wheel relationship that matters so for example if you had a TT fb wheel then its airbag will be fine on a A3 fb wheel or a S3 FB wheel because they are all the same regardless of the car...

here my friend...check this out. ORIGINALLY FROM AUDIZINE.COM but this is flying all over the place. B6 to B7 retrofit, but apparently the round airbag was stage 1 vs stage 2, the car was later involved in a serious crash in which the driver somehow miraculously survived.

According to Greg (400HPA4) there are 3 known B6s where it did not go off...

Thanks Paddy; that clears some of it but then, the worry seems to be what year is the cutoff for stage 1/2? Is it the same for A8/A6/A4/A3? If you buy something on Ebay they don't show you the wires; often its just the year range. And those are all over the place.

the A8 airbag will NOT fit an RS6 flat bottom wheel, the only other wheel an a8 will fir is an rs4 wheel.
you need the round airbag from a TTS or an S3

FINALLY. A definitive answer; That whole A8 thing really bugged me the most, something told me that was probably going to be the case. Thankyou very much.

Just one point Lea...Alpha is in the US so they dont have the S3 but surely a std FB Mk2 TT wheel, not just the TTS wheel is the same as the S3 so that would do as well ?
