Hello gents. Just thought I'de see if I'm not alone when the Mrs has a go...."You spent what on some alloys!!!!...All night on that ****** car and no time with me!!!!!!"......

I spend on average a couple of hundred a month on her (maintaining/mods). Time wise about 30 hrs per month. Do you guts think this is excessive, or do you spend a similar amount of time/money as me!

I refuse to answer on the grounds I may incriminate myself, lol. But yes that sounds about right, some sort of compulsive disorder is what she said.

Too much and far too much!!

Can't wait for the day it finally dies and I am free of the spell. Then I can finally spend my money on other things such as holidays, taking the missus out for dinner, get a new PC, buy an iPhone, etc.

Trade the missus in mate, wish I had as I would still own my Fiesta if that had been the case. lol

To be honest I don't go mad these days, buying a property has clipped my spending on automotive go faster bits. I tend to upgrade when a component wears out if it will be of benefit. Each purchase is thought through though. I can do a few months not spending anything, other months I can spend £300 or so.

with my ex i really was a bad person. everything was golf GTI orientated, it really was a way of life

that all started to chill out around the time me and her separated (4 years)

new GF (almost 2 years now) is actually a big fan of VW/VAG stuff. she doesnt mind it TOO much. i bought spax rsx coilovers to replace my eibach coilovers on the golf and she didnt even bat an eye lid (i did encorporate that with a nice weekend away in Bristol though..)

she doesnt get impressed if i spend a lot of TIME on the cars though and nowadays i spend almost no time on cars compared to what i used to be like

I hve spent a bit however if u look at my car most people wouldnt notice a thing

well I look at this way...I don't have a massive shoe collection or spend £100 on my hair every 4-6weeks, she drives new car that I lease for her...
so when I spend £700 on some monster brakes she can't really complain!! especially when my car was £6k to buy and hers is a £25k golf!!

Not enough! Missus thwarts any plans to spend on my car unless it's essential. :(

I've done good in the past at disguising "wants" as "needs". For example, when I needed two rear shocks when I first got my Golf I managed to wangle a full set of Supersport suspension on the basis that they "weren't that much more". :p

One of my Audi's corners is sounding a little rough... Mmmmm coilovers!!!

lol, yer ditto mate, know were your coming from, well said lol

Last year- £££'s almost every month(bumpers, wheels, carbon fibre etc etc) Time- 0 (worked away almost all of it)

made redundant at end of 09

This year- £0 Cant afford to atm!!! Time- Plenty, but not much use when i cant buy the parts i want now!:crying:

Unfortunately, I've been made redundant also (end of 2009).

Spent:
£200 on the rear bumper - cosmetic job. Looks much nicer now.
£140 filling in some holes where the door trim corners had gone, and repaired the door sills.
£190 shaved off the studs and welded the doors, having removed the lower door trims.

I'm considering replacing my Votex side skirts, but out of so many different types of skirts, the only decent looking ones I can find are S4s (or RS4s if you go the widebody route).

sounds like 2009 was a bad year for you guys, hope 2010 is a better one!

I did spend a lot of money on it when I first got it. Most of it was necessary and mechanical though... honest!

I've slowed down LOADS now though. Okay, I admit, I've got other projects on the go that I tend to spend money on instead though!

Must... resist...

Off topic, but wots involved in deleting the lower door strips mate, something im tackling soon. Does it require welding only, not possible to use filler? Does it leave large holes to be welded???

With the strips off they will look something like this:

Little pegs which will need to be removed then painted over. I imagine you could avoid having to weld anything.

Or get a '96 car like mine which doesn't have them and looks uber cool. :)

Even '96's have the middle strip though, and that has holes in the door fixing it on, so if you wanted to remove that, you'd probably want to weld the holes up.

A4 has tended to get maintenance and repairs only uptil now, although some of those repairs have been very expensive (the replacement engine must've cost about 800quid by the time it was all said and done), and where possible if something i'm replacing can be upgraded i'll try to do so. Having said that, the missus (while walking thru tesco of all places) announced she wanted a leather interior for it and was prepared to pay upto £200 for one. That made me smile :p She's even been looking on ebay for one!

Landrover tends to soak up most of my spare cash, although i've finally got some new rims for the A4, and fitted them yesterday!

Nope, standard height, but i'm actually quite impressed because the wheels look good. I was expecting it to look stupid with the lower profile tyres on standard suspension, but while perhaps it could do with a little 10-15mm drop, it looks ok.

A quick phone pic just after fitting them:

I'll take some better pics once i've washed/polished it and dressed the tyres etc.

Doesn't look too bad... but yeah, 15mm wouldn't hurt... :o.k:

I don't tend to spend alot of time on the car mechanically as I'm not mechanically inclined. As for money last month has been expensive at about £1700. £300 on new 4 new Toyos, £350 on Meyle front arm kit, £300 on alloy refurb and £750 on fitting Meyle's and full service and 4 wheel allignment. Still needs rear spring. This month lots of high octane fuel for Audi Aberdeen meet.

i spend alot, but i love it!! my time and money is taken up on the car, spent £1600 on BBS CH, £800 on eibach coilys,RS4 brake setup which cost me £400 all in with new pads and braided lines, over £200 worth of cleaning products(4-5 hours every weekend cleaning) nearly £800 maintaining(MAF,Lambda,DV's,servicing, labour) and all that in just 6mnths.......MRC custom remap and milltek coming in may which will set me back £1100 so all in all its an expensive game but hey you on this planet living the average life so why not treat yourself with something we enjoy and love, even if i was a millionaire id still be doing the same but on a bigger scale with season tickets to chelsea and following the F1 around the world thats about it so if i could id spend all my time in and on my S4 it wouldnt be a bad life.

Cheers mate.

****** el spend penuts wifey dont like me on it that often the car that is he he just like it clean and tidy i do love it now it runs well gettin there its in my blood im afraid

Oh gawd, here we go then. How much do I spend on my B5? The answer to that is probably nowhere near enough.

I bought the car when I came out of full-time sales and handed my company Merc (yawn) in. I never expected to fall in love :puke2:with the A4 like I have...

Bought it when 10 years old @51k for £1017. Since then I've done 4 oil services @6k each so, maybe £150. Set of plugs £15. Changed cambelt, tensioners and stat, £140. Changed wheel bearing, £20. 17"TTreps from eBay, £143. 17" AMGs from work including 2 brand new Kumho Exsta Sport tyres (and two new Gash Sunny ones) , £free. Pair of Kumho Exsta Sport tyres to replace the gash ones, (£116). I tend to clean the car (or have it valeted) at work, so that doesn't cost me anything.

I'm feeling guilty now, but I'm not earning a load and trying to save for a mortgage deposit. The car still looks pretty decent (to me) and is pretty healthy with 78k. And it stands me so far at about £783 a year total including purchase. (excl. fuel and insurance)

Absolute bleedin' bargain. Considering my company car tax was £250ish a month....

Even '96's have the middle strip though, and that has holes in the door fixing it on, so if you wanted to remove that, you'd probably want to weld the holes up.

Just the lower weatherstrips i mean Aragorn, not bothering with the coloured bump strips, will use them to paint down from so i dont need the whole doors painted.

Mmmm spent loads ........ or is that not enough????!!! Any way to date must be around £17k on this that and the other since i've owned her (4 years or so now). Going to spend a little more on her this month.... but not much, as moving is an expensive game :(. That price doesn't include servicing, mot's etc. But hay ho.

£17k in 4 years...? OUCH!

I'm messing with mine now ready for tomorrow... but it's only 'cheap' stuff I'm doing - just the way I like it. And it'll be sure to wind a few people up tomorrow!

Yeh it sounds alot but it isn't compared to what some people spend.... eg around £25k - £30k just on the engine!!!
Thinking of taking mine out for a gentl cruise and blow some cobwebs out, before i get back to work. :(

washed the avant twice this month and spent £3 on some new bulbs and a new rear wash wipe jet (£5) which in turn let me break the rear wiper...

My car is std and never gets worked on.......

Thats my offical statement and I am sticking to it.....

No one can check as the search is fubar'd,LMAO

Thanks for the answers gents. It appears by overwhelming majority that I am not alone!!:) - ] )......Thats a relief! Currently just drilled two holes in the tailgate and installed a carbonised steel padlock. Hopefully the Mrs (who's now residing in the spare wheel well) will leave me alone now...................................................................Can anyone supply me with an alibi?!!!!!?!
