How rapid is rapid? I'm topping it up every 2 weeks?
I bet you what is actually happening is the crack in the cylinder head is pressurising the coolent system which is forcing some of the coolent out of the over flow pipe in the coolent tank or letting the water in the cylinder and then blowing it out of the exhaust system. I had the exact same problem on my car 2 years ago before the head cracked completely and hydro-locked the engine.I can only account for my situation but my cooling system seems to be pressurising itself to the extent that after a drive there is no coolant in the bottle, when I then take off the cap the coolant returns in to the bottle (at a lower level than it was when I set off).
So you could take the cap off the header tank (to ensure system isnt pressurised already), make an accurate note of where the coolant is in the header tank, take it for a reasonable length test drive, then recheck level of coolant in header tank.
I'm sure someone will have a better method but this should give you a starter for ten.
