Had a play with a type r last nite!

Cool video :rockwoot:
The S3 did a pretty good job. It's a 210bhp S3.

With the jap version civic don't they put out more power like the civic ain't they something like 230bhp standard

VTEC Controllers are the things to watch out for on the Type R good peoples. Come up against one with a VTEC controller configured well, and they fly! Still not mapped S3 fast though.

The new Type R is gash. I has a race with one in my A3 150 when the engine was standard, and to 80 he couldn't out accelerate me.

Brand new, and had his missus with him. I pulled up at the traffic lights next to him afterwards and said (and I quote) "That thing is sh*t, how much do the fast ones cost?"

We laughed about it all the way home. I doubt the same could be said for him.

This is a difficult one to call for me as the Type R's I've been up against have had the edge. Mines a 210 AMK though so that might be why. Less power to start with.

On each occasion, my friends Integra Type R (imported L Plate) is considerably faster. I mean I am close behind but he does pull slightly in each gear, so eventually he'd pull away. With the Civic it was closer, I was closer to him and stayed there. The Integra really really does handle well and I'd be doing well to stay with it even when my car is re-mapped (on 24th this month). What will make a difference is a decent suspension setup. We all know the S3 is a heavy lethargic car at best and with most of our cars now above the 60/80k Mile bracket parts are well and truly worn. I'm sticking the same complete suspension set-up on mine as Ess's had on his car (with Geometry), with the hope of being able to control the car better around corners. It's not the Type R i'm after. It's the ST's.

All in all though the Type R is a very very good car. It was between a civic and my S3 when I was looking to buy a new car.

must have been a type S sport thing surely? or was your a3 modded by that stage

The old integra are fast serious cars and carry hardly any weight compared to the s3 with a remap and suspension upgrade you can say bye bye to the hondas as long as there standard .
The good thing is most type r are standard because of the amount of
money it cost to tune them n/a engine cost so much money to get any power gains what so ever

The new type r are slower than the older ones and ain't as good in the corners

2.0 i-VTEC Type R 3d 6.4s 146mph 198 bhp

no chance you stayed even close to that in a stadnard 150. even my old golf leaves those for dust

1.8 i-VTEC Type S 3d 8.6s 127mph 138 bhp
i think you had a race with one of those

1.8 T Sport 3d 7.9s 135mph 147bhp

I couldn't keep with the older quicker CTR in my A3 running 194ish bhp and it was a perfect setting, 2nd gear and running through 3rd wasn't a problem, it was only when I had to reach for 4th that he comfortably started to pull on me. I know my A3 would keep with a standard S3 too, so in my mind unless you have a remapped S3 your going to have a severe type R headache, this purely straight line speed, the bends is obviously where the civic comes alive...

Like some have said, personally I don't think the civic is a patch on the S3 as an overall package, looks better, more comfortable, more toys, more torque and no where near as common...

Yeah the figures are right but it depends if the civic driver new what he was doing behind the wheel if you shift too early you gotta wait for the revs to build up again and by that time your gone

and to make it a really bad night, try and keep up with an integra R with the roads get really bendy

those things change directions like FLIES

plus they rev to a billion. shame they have fischer price interiors

Well, I was there mate, and thats what happened, because I watched it.

Whether the bloke couldn't drive, who knows, and frankly who cares, but the bottom line is that they are shat. LOL!

And I believe it's 6.76 to 60 duder.... At least according to my sources... http://www.fastestlaps.com/car46040ec30a4d9.html

Hmmmmm, I guess they look the same..... And if a sneaky someone had changed the badge on the back, I may of been none the wiser...

However, that wouldn't put up much of a fight, even against a standard 150. This was pulling well, just couldn't pull away.

i had a chase with one of those type s piles of crap, i got all excited when my golf caught him then left him

put the reg into the dvla site and it turned out to be a type s so really not a scalp worth talking about :p

Reminds me of racing an 'S3' in my A3 after having a stage 1 map put on it.

Turned out to be a 180 TQ.

W*nker. LOL.

ive had that too... turned out to be a diesel of some sort all dressed up

nothing WORSE than dressing up a car to be something its not. (cough e36 318)

i did post a while back after two sessions with the same new shape type R, with 19's wheel upgrade so at a distinct disadvantage..... found it hard to shake him off my ***!! i know they are slower than the old ones but this chap wasnt going anywhere, dunno if i was pulling him along in my slip stream or if that helped him at all, all i know is that i pulled a couple of lengths off the roundabout on both occasions then it stayed like that all the way up to speeds - equal, this was only a few months back

Agreed. I've seen a great many 'M3s' and 'VXRs' which turned out to be nothing of the sort or even close.

I prefer the opposite way around. Sleepers. My Corsa 'GSI 16V' was a GSI - but not a 1.6. Twas a 205 BHP 2.0 GSI 16V with lots of moddy plops. That made a few people feel daft!

Hmmmmm. The 1.8 is looking a more and more possible option..... hehe

yes mate haha, i was gutted to see this kid matching me, and he had a passenger!! thats whats swaying me on the FMIC next, once ive covered the cost of this gearbox issue

It all comes down to the driver if he's willing to push it all the way when it come to hot hatches.
I've seen alot of sport cars get showed up by hot hatches,
because they ain't just gona take the risk and ain't got the balls to open it up
but the stats on paper a miles apart in performance,
once my mate had a mess a bout with a sprinter van from the lights
he went from 1st gear to 4th and the van left him.
He missed shift it was about 2 years ago and hes still gets stick over it till this day
pressure must of got to him

paper doesnt show mid gear and the difference can be night and day......

Should of seen the face of the Civic type R owner when I bet him on the 1/4 mile in my 1.4 polo lol

A friend used to have a jdm integra dc2, was the best vtec car Ive been in but Im almost certain that was helped mostly by a spoon flywheel. Big difference! He cant drive to save his life though so he might aswell have had a lada round the twisties.

You just don't no what your racing like they say don't judge a book by it cover?

When it was newly built my dad's 4.0 V8-converted 1967 MGB was running without V8 badges. I surprised a few cars (and bikes!) with that, especially it's arch nemisis - the Subaru Impreza 2000 turbo with STI stickers all over!

exactly. no one wants to race my S4 at all. its just another blue estate to the rest of the world. i was even tempted to badge it as a 1.9tdi as people always want to try and teach tdis a lesson.

Do it, you know you want to.....

There's a guy round my way got an o2 m5 he's took the badges off and put 518i badge on the back bet he shocks alot of people.
The only thing with that tho is the twin exhaust iver side and the massive wide tyres can't fool me I no it's an m5

thats what im hoping to acheive with our A3..... sport 16" alloys, stealthy fmic/downpipe and sports cat....should be a nice rocket once done :)

Yeah and every one will thinks it's just a standard a3 untill there looking at your rear lights

Allways a good vid when thiese discussions come up.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NKtw2hd-Zc

In 1st place for more than half the race, not bad.

Great vid! S3 does really well for a while it was pretty far ahead and some how lost as the race went on! I have the same 210 s3 and took it to brands hatch last year where I had a good fight with an s2000, kept up with it round the corners and exiting onto straights I guess thanks to traction and accelleration, but every time s2000 pulled a good cars width on me on the start finish straight! Pulled it back round the track but never enough to pass! A remap and no doubt I'd have had him!!

Now that a proper race ditty, off the road and where it counts. i cant wait to tell my mate with an s2000, he seems to think its a world beater!

Anyone ever had a play with a Clio 172cup?

One tried it on with me lastnight, it had 3 attempts and happy to say it lost on all 3 occasions:)

yeah they are utter crap, although i did lose top end a while back with a 192...... then found i had multiple boost leaks, thats what made me map it to make sure i completely ruined it the next time i saw it - havent seen it since :(

well, tell a lie, saw it last week whilst out with the misus in hers :(
