Im aiming for under 13 secs too but i haven't been a drag strip since last year. Very impressed with the time you got actually i'll be very happy with a 13.1, btw since you have a SMFW what rpm did you launch the car at and how does it feel to a stock clutch/DMFW setup?

I've been in Ed's car on a few 6k-7k launches and it's pretty dam awesome with the SMF (all 4 wheels spinning :w00t: ). But as he says, needs stiffer mounts as it becomes hard to engage 2nd..
Besides, 13.1 is easy with 4wd. Try doing it with Fwd :scared2:

Someone without a left arm could do a good time in your motability Golf!

You're only jealous because my gearbox actually works on the 1/4 mile.:nyah:
Either that or you can't change gear as you've done to much :drag: the night before..

It is totally different to stock, makes a right noise on tick over and it makes the car vibrate when accelerating at low RPM's. I love it though, you can feel the bite easy and to do a good launch is easy. Only problem is when you don't cain it for a while, gears get stiff 1st and 2nd but a quick slip of the clutch sorts that out.

Loads on here tell you not to go down the SMF route, I didn't take any notice and just went for it, best decision I made. I think that the Spec set up I have is really good, sounds like the Sachs one has a few issues.

Sachs one is fine if you don't mind having to change gear below 5000rpm..

why's that?

Well as far as I've heard, the sach cover plate can't handle the pressure after 5K rpm at full throttle since its not strong enough. Only the sach one is prone to this and other SMF flywheels kits such as helix, spec or southbend don't have this problem.

Any tips for the 1/4 mile, ill be doing my first on Sunday at Santa Pod

I will be doing my first on Sunday at Crail also, I will be holding the revs around 4k and when the lights change up with the clutch pedal and off we go :) Have tried this before with the uprated clutch and it works very well :)

Cheers Davie

let me know what you get mate:) i went for the 1st time a few weeks ago and i got to the lights as quick as possible try getting there before your oppenent so you have more time to get ready for a launch i found doing this really helped me alot!

traction off.. tap throttle around 3500-4200.. handbrake on to get car still (ofcourse holding handbrake with button in.. then green light clutch out handbrake down and your off :)

that worked for me mate my best was a 13.7 with just a cat-back and intake!

Traction control on or off

Turn it off :)

Had a great day today, never been down a 1/4 mile before so wasnt sure what to expect. Anyway first run of the day i ran 12.7 :) and my second last run of the day was 12.8 so im well chuffed. My reaction times could be alot less than they were. Sometime i found it difficult to get 3rd gear, think it was down to trying to change rapidly or a stiffer lower engine mount might help as my engine mounts are all standard. The slowest i ran was a 14.2 as which was a disgrace, took me ages to engage 2nd and 3rd as i wasnt paying enough attention. But overall im over the moon as i managed to get into high 12's :)

sounds like you a good day, unlike mine. It was a bad start to the day, only had 2 hours sleep and had the worst hangover ever, Im sure there was little man in my head with a big hammer. One run had a bad start and the other missed a gear, only managed 13.6 so wasn't over impressed

I know how you feel i was at a 21st and by the time i got into bed it was time to get back out it so was shattered hence my rubbish reaction times lol 4K RPM launches are unreal feels like your going to take off lol, if i could get through the gears without an issue i think i could have ran high 12's all day, think some stiffer mounts will be getting added to basket :) Look at it this way, when you go fresh you will be able to beat your 13.6 no problem.

Im well impressed with the 12.7 sec time, wow. I will be well chuffed if my car does under 13 secs, you should a really happy man lol

My A3 does the quarter at the pod in 14.44secs.

The Polo does mid 13's.
went to Crail today and had a amazing time. Was my first time at any strip AND launching my car.
Was pretty warm- around 20 degs, and with 3/4 full tank, I couldnt manage better then 14.8! A bit dissappointed. I blame my crappy celtic tuning map!
A mk6 with APR remap I think and DSG pushing a claimed 270 easily went past me after 70 mph, as did a 280 bhp mk1 Cupra.
Once my Haldex advantage wore off they were able to take me at the end.
Even with my 45-50kg weight over you i would expect to get down to 14.5s atleast,,although it was a different track/conditions etc

. DEFINATELY getting the GIAC MAP on soon to try that out, going to see if i can get a discount at stattler if i choose to add HPFP later on.

I would like to see what people are getting at Santa Pod only. I've had a few cars over the years and I've found that Pod times are higher than other places, has anyone else noticed that? I'm on about running at GTI inters next month, I ran it stage 1 there last year and got a 13.8, ran my car stage 2+ at Pod this year and got a 13.1, be interesting to see if the time this year at inters is much different to the Pod time. I know I can get in the 12's if I could ****** get 2nd gear, don't like running it too much get it in the neck from the bird but might have to run it at inters and Pod to see what the difference is.

seems like full throttle-red line shifting in our cars is a problem. At crail the other day my friend in a Z4 coupe 3.0si was shifting in DSG-like fashion in comparison lol

higher times at pod will be down to the glue they put on the track. most run what you brungs have a few jet/funny car runs throughout the day too so the glue is down for them...
if you look at letstorquebhp.com figures they have 2 different 1/4 mile times. a "street" one and a "strip" one. would suggest strip times closer to santa pod and a lot of other 1/4 mile tracks would be closer to the street times

I was also at Crail on Sunday and the best time I ran was 13.343 with stg2+. My 60ft times were poor as the car bogs down as soon as I launch. The pre-facelift S3's seem to launch harder than the facelift. Is this something to do with the different generation of Haldex?

If I can launch properly then I could get down to the 13.1's. Times are shown below

What were you launching at bro? got best launches at about 3800 rpms, that got me 2.00x secs 60ft time. You see Zabey's first go in Azam's car? He nailed it first time trying, git!
Apparently the Gen 3 Haldex (or 4 is it) in the 8P2 is much faster to send power rearwards then in the older versions. I think the tiny amount of wheelspin somethimes possible in a gen2 haldex helps prevent bogging down sometimes which may not the case with yours.

To Brett : there were no DSG S3s, but there was a Mk6 GTI with DSG and he claimed it was only stage 1. But if you saw him accelerating at the end of the a run you would find this hard to believe. He was getting down to 14 dead, even with poor 60ft times due to wheelspin, And matching an M3 E46 for trap speed.

Was launching it at 3K and letting the clutch gently slip and them pushing the accelerator really hard. A bit like launching a FWD car. Tried doing hard launches at 4K before by dumping the clutch and it bogs down.

Think I need a haldex controller

Here's my video @ the track here in Monterrey Mexico, it's my s3 8p with only Unitronic Remap... everything else STOCK......

13.42

thats an amazaingly good time for an S3 with software only. Although your surface there looks sticky as ****. what fuel were you running on?

It's 91 oct + Nos Race octane booster.......

Actually Unitronic Software is amazing in this car..... they have a special software to use with Oem Fuel pump and works @ 122 bar...... it runs great!! it's a beast...... last week i was doing some street racing against a Leon Cupra 2.0t with Revo and intake and i always won....

I just got a new GIAC remap for mine, and its streets ahead of my last ****** map. Loads of torque below 3.5K and pulls way harder from 5-7k. Need to get back on the 1/4 to see what it can do. The tuner was offering a racemap for running on octane booster which i may take in the future too :-D

p.s I love the fact the yanks are denied the wonderful S3 whereas Mexico's market is deemed more then suitable. hah.

P.s You should deffo get an Evoms/ITG etc intake and full TBE or atleast d/p will make a huge difference , esp with new software, right from low down to top end.

I'd leave the s3 at home for the strip and take the king silly silly figures, stock they run 9.8-10.2 oddly enough with bikes bigger guys fair a bit better controlling the front coming up, some people even flip their bikes!

They do say wight loss in a car is the way to go but until you have a strengthened clutch I'd not be wanting to do many hard launches in a stage 1 or 2 s3 from what i have read.

the S3s at crail the other day were all fine, no smell of clutch or slip at all.

Interesting, seems like a lot of peeps have had trouble on here with a remap on stock clutch and more so going to stage 2, I think I'd like a sachs clutch for the heavier feel first too.

I love that fact about yanks too! hahah........ they think that american cars are the best of the world..... they dont know anything about life & cars hhaha

Can quite believe that mate to be fair. A 270bhp DSG equipped GTI should easily be able to get a 14.0 flat IMO. I managed that in my old LCR on many occasions and that was obviously a manual. Out of interest, what terminal speeds did he get? My guess would be 101-102mph?

RR's DSG GTI is running around 270 BHP and Jonnyc managed a 14.0 in it at the POD earlier in the year.
