The reason why I've asked this, is because I'm wondering if spending £5k - £10k for mods on my car ( 2005 3.2 DSG ) is worth it. If I do then I definately would be keeping it for a good few years...

Any thoughts or a waste of time and money....???

Cheers
Gary

ask nate he is addicted so he will tell you:)

What do you plan to do to your car for 5-10k?

A bit mad IMO but you could do a lot

I think I have spent......

Around £1500 on my S3 I think but I had a lot of the mods already from my previous A3 - spent £640 on tyres so far so add that too!

10k would supercharge it........

Like Boydie said, what do you plan to do for 5-10k?

At the end of the day, it's up to you! But please, don't make a chav wagon! :)

I dont want to add up what I have spend so far, I think it would scare me......And as for N8, I reckon he could have cleared the national deficit with his mods!!!

Your car + £10K = £20K

£20K gets you a tidy Stage 1 S3 with some decent springs.
Or various other practical Jap/German performance stuff for that matter.

I drove a 3.2 at the weekend and its a very good car so I can see the point in wanting to spend a bit to get it how you want it, just not £5-10K.

Good luck anyway.

Around £2,500 takes an S3 up to around 350bhp and many of the parts can be resold for around 50% when you have finished with the car, on the other hand if you spend £5-£10K on your 3.2 you are unlikely to see a return but crikey they do sound good :)

Add Brakes and wheels and theres another £3.5K.

At the end of the day it's your choice and if keeping the car then it helps the justification.

It's a tough one but if it were me I'd upgrade the exhaust to release some more 6 cylinder music and keep thinking about it .

Just had a quote from JBS and the TS380 turbo conversion is £8250....

380bhp with DSG I think could be awesome to be honest....But that only gives it 0 - 60 in 5 secs....I think standard 0 - 60 is 6.2sec...So not much difference for nearly £10k...
But I suppose the pull through the gears would be nice along with the sound....

OR

The cash plus mine for an Impreza sti or WR1...Both under 5 secs 0 - 60...I admit they are not brilliant inside but the power delivery is awesome

That is my dilemma....Spend a wad on my car and have the V6 sound with turbo or an Impreza

I've read that some guys on their cars spend easy £10k+ on mods

Garry...I agree with Pau,l , its a good car but it is what it is. you could slam it etc for a grand but £5k-£10k? !! If you start spending big money on that engine it will soak it up and more. A charger will mean bigger brakes and tyres..and i dont mean going thinner with 19"'s. strain on the drive train from box to wheel bearings and a decent suspension set up...and i dont mean just dropping it so it hasnt got any suspension.
You can make it very fast...or look very fast, its quite a different thing.
Or buy a Subaru which is what you want to do really ;-)

Its a bit like having a baby to save a marriage...it dosnt address the real problems and it dosnt work...just cost more money :)....You want a tubo/supercharger to save your relationship with your car :) but it will not address the real problem...just cost more money..

£10k will buy you a few weeks petrol for an STi....and a box of tissues....Go for it.

WOW Paddy you hit the nail on the head everytime mate:icon_thumright:....I do want an Impreza but I'm also trying to find ways of keeping my car because everytime I drive it, it makes me smile especially with the DSG

There's a few guys over on the R32 website that have gone down the turbo route and they love it...But then I'm thinking can I justify spending £10k on the car.

IF i did go down the turbo route I would be keeping the car for a loooooooooooooong time....But then you never get back what you put into it i guess

Get an Sti and have fun for a year or so and if you want to calm down later get another 3.2 DSG or in a year or two, a S3 DSG will be more affordable.
I know how you feel, I look at lots of nice cars and i am lucky that money is not really an issue...but i love my DSG and that limits things rather..and i dont want something which will leave me heart broken when some old dear bangs her door into it in Waitrose car park next week :)

Yes your right mate...But I just like my car..But I also need to get the Subaru bug taken care of...

The only thing missing if you get an STi is that sound though :( My S3 is pretty damn quick but it will never sound like a 6 cylinder, it's tough one.

I've spent a total of £2900 + bigger brakes off gazm comin soon then later all new performance discs & pads & braided hoses, then next year hybrid turbo & large intercooler and injectors so by time I've done all this I would estimate I'll have spent over 5k but dnt regret it in the slightest as I love the car in standard form and now I've made it more like how I want it it's the perfect car for me and will only get better,
at the end of the day it's ur car, ur choice and what you realy want from a car.

Gd luck
chris

i spent around 4k on my 1.6 a3 and loved it, the s3 is going to be even worse haha

Will you be keeping your car for a few more years then....

I do love the sound of the V6 but then I love the sound of the Impreza's

IMHO a terrible idea. I don't think the 3.2 is a great base for extensive mods...

Financial madness. £8K on the car, and will put maybe £8 on the car's value at best.

If you want to tune to serious bhp, buy a turbo to start with. Makes far far more sense.

And if you really want big bhp and the sound of a V6? Buy a B5 S4 or RS4. Awesome cars.

Gary i spent alot of time choosing which car to go for i was always wanting a subaru but the lack of a good interior always kept them at bay , i went for the S3 done some mods and am chuffed to bits sure its no V6 but with over 330bhp its more than enough in this country , the audi is such a nice car to be in and very classy with that kind of set your pants on fire when you want it. its your money and your car so go for it . i do think £8k is a lot for a turbo when you have to consider the other upgrades that will have to go with the turbo , you will be into mental money.

Any 3.2 V6 is going to cost a fortune to tune properly for big power. I would always get a Evo over a scobby as well.

Any money spent modding a car is wasted money. If you cannot aford to loss it don`t spend it.

8k ???? keep your car and go and get an gsxr1000 or an r1 scooby killers and hold there money, along with a 0-60 of about 2.8 seconds no brainer

Yeah if you want fun & speed then do as Lea says, if dont want bike then sell the 3.2 & buy a turbo charged car & tune the feck out of it for very little in comparison, you could buy an S3 tbh 06 onwards for 15k these days, thats got a shed load of mods available & will give you 330-360 horses & be ***** quick, as Pete says (yes I agreed with you :p) its not a good base car to mod from, not at all cause any tuning will cost you the earth for very little gain IMHO.

I have spent quite a few grand already on the a3 and only had it about 9 months.

But to put it in to pespective,i have spent more money on my rs4 than what the a3 is worth, but lots of parts can be removed
and sold on or the value of the car is increased, but modding cars your are always going to be well out of pocket.

But if thats your thing as it is mine then so be it.

I would not spend the money to supercharge it,my mate has done his vr6 and it goes well and sounds amazing, but never going to be lightning
quick,you can't beat a turbo. IMO:icon_thumright:

Spent FAR too much cash over the years on numorous cars. I allways say im never gonna touch this one, and what happens.....it gets modded. I try not to tot up how much ive spent as that way id cry like a new born baby. Ive slowly decreased my spending sprees recently though on modding, and I have just fallen out of love with it all, and my prioritys changed etc etc. In some cases I spent that much cash on cars I got worried to drive them and became unbelelivable anal about it all, and it took the enjoyment out of it for me. Im just gonna chill now and enjoy my new car for what it is....untill i mod it. ha ha ha!

Any money spent modding a car is wasted money. If you cannot aford to loss it don`t spend it.

Very true,if you can't afford to lose it,don't spend it,but hopefully not a waste of money if you enjoy doing it.

Any money spent modding a car is wasted money.

In some ways I agree with you - but then you could say that spending money on anything is a waste of money. Why go to a nice restaurant when it all comes out as ***** anyway ? Why go on holiday when you'll soon forget it anyway ? Why buy a new car which will just depreciate anyway ? Cash is for making the experience of living a little more enjoyable - if it makes you happier then it isn't a waste at all. Having said that you'd never get £8000 worth of pleasure out of modifying a 3.2 A3.

Well....reading all the comments I've come to the forgone conclusion that the 3.2 is not a good car to spend that money on.
It will need to go and I'll be buying myself a car that will deliver power and make me smile at the same time...I do know that the Audi is far better inside than the Subaru's BUT I just have to scrath this little itch I've got about the Impreza just to get it out of my system...And most probably i'll be going for the S4 when it's time to venture back to the Audi.

That said I was in this dilemma last time when I chose my 3.2 over an Impreza...and everytime I see one now I wish i bought one...but everytime I get in my car I'm wondering what i can do just to bring that smile back from when i first bought it...Don't get me wrong as I love the DSG and V6 noise....something isn't just there anymore with this car....Jesus i need to get out more...sounds like a relationship:faint:

TBH dude, as much as the impreza may wow you for drivability, when you sit in it, you will be urrrmmmm its not an audi lmfao, nah seriously i dont worship my car like some, but the interior kicks the **** out of many others, why not grab a nice tfsi quattro, tune the balls of it & have the nicer vision of the interior coupled with the very tunable engine aswell, for me that would complete your needs, but hey I'm not you so do as you want fella.

I've been thinking about an S3 but I think I'll still be pining for a Subaru...Well my money isn't going anywhere so I'll just take my time and have a good look around and test drive a few cars...Your right about the interior though...But who buys an Impreza for the interior.....

Yeah but you'll be kicking yourself if you buy the recycled plastic interior over a more refined audi one lmfao, get yourself in a nice mapped S3 & then watch as that fantasy about the impreza disappears lmfao

Mmmm suppose you could be right...But I did hear a nice S4 this morning...They are nice:icon_thumright:

Brain wave !!
You could have both :) a Sabaru will cost you the £10k you were going to spend on the A3...and when your bored with it next week you could sell it again for ......say £5k and you will be happy and still have £5k....simples :)
Or am i missing something ?:faint:
