No they're painted plastic.

If you want them to match your wheels, just get any plastic mirror covers painted. Can't see it working though.

do you know if the alloy looking part can be taken off with out removing the whole mirror ?

Yes the silver part is a mirror cover, the same as the colour coded part on other A3 models. It all comes apart. The only difference is the mirrors, not the complete units.

yes it can.

Just prise the actual glass bit out , remove a couple of screws, and the cover will come off.

PRISE THE GLASS OUT !! is there any tips on doing this ??

if its not metal i cant powder coat it any way !! might look in to vinyl wrapping them if i can get them off !!

do the 2 little screws underneath do any thing ?

I did mine this afternoon replacing my standard black ones with audi matt aluminium. The whole process took approx 10 mins. Found that if you angle the mirrors downwards as far as you can then this allows you a bit of a gap all along the top of the mirror to get your fingers round the edge and give an even sharp pull. A couple of electric connections on the back of the mirror and it comes off.
As scottie says the screws on the underside can be left in place if just removing the cover.

I have a pair of 2009/10 LED Side lights...I will do them for £180 PM me if you would like them
