Message To S3 Owners - Someone Convince Me !!

But lets be honest gents the only reason we drive S3's and we're even on this forum is cause we have tunnel vision about our cars and we will defend our cars even if they're 2nd best!!!:s3addict:

So you're saying you not biast to audi at all bro?

Not in the context you have expressed it no, you have clearly stated as above, I dont agree with that statement at all, if my car is *****, its ***** end of, but I find that VAG do make good cars usually, thats not biaised, just factual I'd say mate.

Um i kinda think you're missing the point an S3 is a highly expensive car for what it is an thats one of the reasons they don't sell it in America. So for people to go out and buy one it must obviously be a excellent car but if the VXR or another car is slightly better in one way or another I will still argue the point cause i'm loyal and I think it's the best and thats what I will stick with beacuse I am biast....

Is it also not the fact that the s3 is 10k dearer so people who can afford them, will do, and people who cant but want a sporty car will buy the vxr, just like if the s3 owners could afford an m5 would buy one and not even consider the s3.
Money plays a major part in what and why we drive our cars

Help me out here people.

Forgetting dealer discounts etc and comparing new for new.

The RRP of a bog VXR is 23-24K
The RRP of a bog S3 is 26-27K

Where is the 10-15K difference that has been quoted???

Have I missed something:uhm:

Cheers
Paul

Well i suppose you get a nicely kitted VX as std where as Audi will want extra for a decent interior light !! Lets face it, Audi still add "heated rear window" as a std selling point ;)
**** poor value these Audi's.....did I ever tell you that ? :yahoo:
and a bog S3 is £28250

UH no & please dont take this as volatile as its just a POV ok of your comments, but I think you're missing the overall point I'm making here.

You have an opinion that we are all like yourself as the 1st quote is showing above, you have assumed we are all on here to basically swing our genitals around our head cause we think we have the absolute top car ever, well sorry to say but we're not, tunnel vision for what again, sorry I dont fall into that category I'm afraid & I think many others would agree.

I dont consider my car to be the bestest in the whole wide world & I dont defend it to the hills, if its *****, it *****, cant say it better than that, the 8P isnt the best car around, it has better models in audi stable & other brands, but overall, I'm just not like you or your analogy of us fellow 8P owners & what you forget is, yes it may be an excellent car, but in your eyes, not neccessarily in everyone else's, although I will say the S3 is a good car, excellent, nah I wont agree.

The S3 8L was & still is an excellent car from the years it was top level, it really was, but then again thats only my opinion, but I feel it is definitely more warrantied of the S badge than the current S3.

The same old ASN discussion arises here, the S3 is just to bland, it is no different in looks than an Sline or are you one of the people that just looks at the power performance etc, personally I buy a car for many reasons & what it sounds like for example isnt one of them, I like looks, interior, power, comfort etc etc, tunnel vision is for those that only see the speedo & how fast it gets to the higher numbers, no offense but its a thrill, but I appreciate also the times when cruising & the comfort being in this car.

I lived in cape town for a year & I used to love cruising from southern suburbs into town & over signal hill & down to seapoint to La Med for sundowners, even if it was at the time a lovely VR6 Jetta with heaps of torque steer & fun, its all about the whole experience IMHO, thats where the refinement of some of the audi things namely vag make the difference, you can sit there in traffic & be ok with what you see or waiting for missus shopping etc etc, you hopefully get my point.

This is just an opinion you understand, my opinion & I dont expect anyone to agree with me, its not an argument.

Guys...are not both arguing the same point??

Whose arguing, just POV's.

Anyway, anyone seen a Cayman recently?

Really? I must have missed that:laugh:

Anyhoo, even with your S3 hatin` spin on things, its still a 6K difference, not 10-15K.
And the OP was refferring to the Nurburgthingamy which I doubt is 23K??? So my guess the difference is less than 6K in this instance.

Oh, and your VXR might get fancy cabin lights as standard, but the the S3 gets 4wd as standard.
Nice:s3addict:

You and your ****** Caymans:blahblah1:

Dont forget some people on here are getting 8% discount on an S3 where your more likely to get 20% at vauxhall, saying that my mate has just picked up an Arden blue VXR with the 19's on a 59 plate with 6k miles for £14995.................now thats where the price differences kick in and the S3 looks expensive, a 6 month old S3 would still be 26k

..........and Arden blue is the best colour ever applied to a car ever!

No Caymans here Nige.....this is a mans forum...:)

Nige you make some very good points. It does get a bit tiresome on forums sometimes with people really believing the car they own is the ultimate and nothing else comes close, I'm all for people enjoying and taking pride in the cars, hell thats why most of us lurk around here, but some need to grab a large slice of reality and wash it down with a big mug of steaming hot validity.

The Cayman is a prime example, plenty of people on ASN actually think an Audi A3 is a better car, even in S3 guise it's not a patch on a Porsche plain and simple.....even boot space is better in the Cayman than the S3!

I'll be honest here & I hate to revisit same old discussion & I hope I havnt contradicted myself, dont think I have, but I have to say I think the Cayman is actually one of the best looking Porshes I've ever seen in my life, sorry but it has curves & style, shame its a 2dr hair dressers car if we're honest, but I love the bodywork man, it really does turn my head everytime I see one, now show me 911's all day & I will just think they're the same day in/out, maybe thats ignorance of the brand so excuse me for that one, but Caymans I do see in the corner of my eye & then take a much longer & better stare & always to date have thought thats nice, anyother Porsche I tend to glance quickly then carry on with what was doing overall.

Still wouldnt have one though lmfao, purely for practical reasons & I dont like claustrophobic cars, but nice curves.

Its only natural for people who have spent £30k+ to see their cars as the best, especially an Audi on a Audi forum. most people do a bit of research and find that what they are buying is what suits them best. this dosnt make the car good value or even a particularly a good car, but it ticks the boxes for the buyer and thats what counts. No one is really going to buy a A3/S3 for its sporty appearance !! Its basically a souped up shopping trolly hatch back. an adaptation of a practical design that adds a bit of go . a cayman is a purpose built sports car with little compromise....chalk and cheese.
As for the VXR ? well you need to compare like with like so compare a £22k VXR with a £22k audi ie: a TDi 140 or a 1.8 petrol.....

This has to be the most pointless thread of all time. The OP asked 2 very reasonable and fair questions - how does tuning an S3 affect the warranty and how does the car respond to tuning ? It's very telling that he hasn't revisited his own thread since Post number 6. It's just degenerated into the usual ASN tired old rumble about the price/speed/sportiness/VFM/prestige/genitals on the head ****** (with some mankinis thrown in for light relief, thank God).

In case the OP still gives a sh1t - lots of dealers are prepared to overlook modifications and the warranties on even very heavily modified cars like S3BigAndy's car haven't been affected. The S3 responds brilliantly to Stage 2+ modifications. It will reliably give you 360lb/ft and 360bhp (if that's your bag) and will perform really well on track (if that's your bag). It won't ever be a wild machine though (if that's your bag) unless you go to Stage 3 and put a big turbo in it. Hope that answers your questions to some degree.

well it didnt stop you posting !!. anyway , my apologies for entering into a discussion on a discussion forum. very often the threads here expand beyond the original topic and i dont see a problem with that.
...
Lets have a look at what the topic starter said ....Quote....280bhp, Remus exhaust, Eibachs, Quaiffe Diff, RARB, Stage 1 only required to see fat Audi in my RVM !!!!

so basically he was here to take the P1ss out of you guys anyway since he is sure you will end up in his rear view mirror in your fat audi...

When the OP made the "bye bye" comment then the potential for any serious contribution disappeared.
To be fair I think it was a tonque in cheek post and intended as a wind up, but that pretty much set the tone.

Thankfully Nige dug out some old snaps of me and my first Borat convention so all was not lost.:respekt:

S3 or Cayman...Mmmm let me think.....

Thought I would do something novel and reply to a question in a thread. Just to see what happened. What happened was pretty predictable though.

No need to apologise to me our kid. I'm not your dad.

HAHAHA was a just a light hearted comment didn't mean to offend you. Didn't need you to bring out the history books and philosophies.:icon_thumright:

It is just POV and mine is at the end of the day it's the same principle if my soccer/rugby/formula 1/nascar team comes last this season i will still support them next season no matter how ***** everyone else thinks they are.

Bit of an odd thread this one!

Basically if someone is mainly interested in tuning an S3 to make it more like a VXR/Focus ST type hot hatch because they find it a bit 'dull'..... To me, that defeats the point of the S3 (as NHN picked up on) and i think that person would be better off sticking with true hot hatches OR skip the S3 all together and look at an Evo.

Another point is that i don't think Audi as a brand really needs the VXR audience buying S3's. Call me a snob or whatever, i don't care, but that's how brands become tarnished. Basic fact of how society views these things. As soon as it becomes common place to see lads in Burberry caps revving at the lights with a massive bass box rumbling in the boot....Probably time for a brand change.
I absolutely LOVE Audi but i'm not sure i'd call them a classy brand (as others have in this thread) over all. I see a lot of RS4's with the silly italic number plates etc. Modern Audi's definitely have a 'bling' factor and i think there has been a role reversal between Audi and BMW in recent years.

A fully kitted out Q7 looks like a Christmas tree and the new A5 convertible....? Well lets just say i've seen a few in Ibis with a RED roof and interior. So yes, i'm not sure 'classy' is a term i'd use for every Audi car and driver anymore!

Anyway, i've completely digressed from the original point again.... If i was the poster of this thread i would stick to true hot hatches which give more bang for the buck.

I have to agree PNH !
I have never understood this idea of spending £35k on a car like an S3 and then feeling the need to change the exhaust, clutch and tune it . This says to me you brought the wrong car.

The perception of a quality brand is just clever marketing that plays on the British need to give everything a class pigeon hole. you can see this in the fact we, unlike 99% of countries feel the need to put the age of our cars on the number plate if you havent paid out a small fortune to buy someone elses number plate... I remember years ago that while Mercedes were trying to push their cars as a quality brand over here, the news was full of the Beirut troubles and every banger on the streets there was a bashed up Mercedes taxi..
the silly thing is that audi and Merc maintain this image by price. they hope to keep the Burberry cap brigade at bay by pricing them out at £150 an hour in the worshop and £30K+ for a an S3...lets face it they either have a ****** inefficient production line or the price is pegged artificially high on most of their models. If you doubt this then why are Audi's so much cheaper in the USA when they have to be shipped 6000 miles as opposed to 600 ?? a basic 2.0 FSi is £2500 cheaper in the US...a TTS is £30k
simple answer is we are stupid enough to pay it.

Offend me, damn not at all mate, was just an reply to yours, no offense taken, but history & philosophies were needed to make the overall point wouldnt you agree slim.

Anyway where you squatting in SA, sud or nord, Joey or CT or middle of the road, some lovely drives for the S3 over there thats for sure.

Not sure the football analogy really holds water, but hey made my point so I hand the mic over to you.
