Hello,

I have been looking into gettting a hybrid K04, so I thought I would give JBS a ring to confirm prices and if they would supply on a exchange basis.. Pretty simple stuff really.

I asked the guy on the end of the phone if they would supply on a exhange basis, I was then told I was on hold.

A short while later the guy returned and told me that all the information was on the web site...

so I replied on the web site it states the price is £1909 and no mention of exchange and that a guy from JBS on the forums has said the price is around £800 for and exchange and £1200 new.

He replied that is for a standard K04.. I replied it does say it is for the Hybrid... He then replied oh well speak to the guy posting the threads!! End

Very Helpful indeed, or am I missing something, I don't think I will be purchasing one from them!!

Phone them up and ask to speak to the boss, tell him what went on and that you are very unhappy. Then ask him the questions directly, if he isn't lenient on price to reflect the poor service and doesn't satisfy your needs then don't buy from them?

My turbo has just been sent of to CR by Bill (Badger5) they are very well priced but what they tend to do is recon your turbo. Mine luckly had no cracks in it so wont be to expensive.

strange this as JBS for me have been brilliant...i do know they have some new staff behind the counter so you may be best asking for someone more senior - the way i understand it is they do an exchange program unless your turbo is indeed cracked

I contacted both CR Turbos and Turbo Dynamics (I think this is who JBS use but someone may correct me here) directly about a hybrid K04 and they were both extremely helpful with loads of useful info - see below for exchange prices:

... which in my experience (limited as it is) applies to most of them... except Speedy Steve's of course as that's in surprisingly good nick :)

<tuffty/>
Yes i am still very shocked that a turbo that has done 112k miles and was seized on had no cracks. Must have been the leaks in the gasket that stopped it haha. I cant wait to get it back.

Not convinced by the power outputs that Turbo Dynamics suggest.... 360bhp for a K04??? They strap a GT30 comp wheel on a K04 hotside??

<tuffty/>

would be interesting to see what they actually produced but i dont think it would be what they are saying.

Was going to say, those figures for stage 3 & 4 cant be right can they?

Info is straight from the data sheet they sent me, but I think they probably used a caveat of some sort with respect to expected power.

Thanks for the info

Lookin at those prices I don't think I will be dealing with JBS, Have people with the CR turbo Hyrid been please with the results and drivability???

I apologise that you were not happy with the service, we have got a new member of staff working with us at the moment but he will soon be up to scratch on everything.

The JBS 05 (hybrid K04) is available for £1909.38inc VAT, we can offer an exhange on this, but are not willing to do this until the original turbo is with us and inspected for damage.

We still feel that no other turbo meets the high spec of the JBS 05.

If you are still interested in the JBS 05 please give us a call and ask for James, and we can arrange some further discount.

Am I getting this right? From looking at your website, you are charging approx £2200 for your K04 hybrid turbo and TIP and remap (although Im not sure it includes the remap). But you advise that you should also have a full miltek exhaust, highflow downpipe and Forge FMIC in addition to the above. That lot looks to be coming in at around £4k. So thats £4k for approx 280 to 300bhp? And thats without spending money on suspension, wheels, brakes and all the other stuff we like to do to our cars.

Has anyone, ever bought this kit from JBS? Surely going BT would be the only option when spending this sort of money?

Sounds a bit of the expensive side when you can get a turbo dynamics stage 2 for around 1/4 price for a similar output, from info on the forums it seems that 300bhp top is the max you can get from a K04 flange so why pay for more!!

Same for me.

Rang JBS for advice the other day, talked to someone who had a very blinkered view on what was good for the car, wasn't interested in anything else or what I had to say either. Felt it was very unhelpful and almost to the point of being rude.

We visit this forum because "some" of us, that would include me also, don't have much of an idea when it comes to parts, remaps, wheels, tyres........the list is almost endless. I also come here for advice on other things as well as the social side (good for a giggle)! It's nice to be able to talk to others who might have the same problems you have or you may be able to help someone yourself. This for me is great and I'm grateful that Audi-sport is here. However, when dealing with companies that are sponsored on Audi-Sport they should also fit the same category i.e always willing to help, pleasant to deal with/speak with over the phone etc. Not all of us here live around the corner and would have to travel 200+ miles to get work done, so a little pleasantry wouldn't go a miss!!

I won't be visiting JBS, first impressions last.

Just my view, doesn't mean I'm right or wrong...

I apologise if you were given that impression Mr.G, As I said previously we have just got a new member of staff working with us who is trying to handle all enquiries as quickly and efficiently as possible, whilst trying to get you the information you require.

If you do need any assistance or do have any questions please feel free to call us on 01246 455005 or E-mail us at office@jbsautodesigns.co.uk.

Once again I apologise if you feel you were not happy with the way your enquiry was handled. I do hope that you will contact us in the future and assure you of our best attention at all times.

Hello JBS!

It wasn't the speed or efficiency that I'm referring to (both of which were great I might add), more the fact of this blinkered approach to tuning. "We don't use Neuspeed because they aren't very good, these people on forums get brainwashed by others" etc. If they aren't very good then why do people give them such good praise?, we visit forums for the above ^^ post reasons!

I don't want to get into an argument over something as petty as a phone-call, but feel I should say for the benefit of others that you really (don't know who I spoke to) should be more open minded of other manufacturers who provide parts for the VAG group.

There is nothing worse than bad press, I'm certain that JBS are a reputable company & there's no need to apologise for the way my call was handled, these things happen!

What I would say though is for future reference first impressions do last, maybe changing the person on the end of the phone would help create more of a rapport with members of the public. After all when people are handing over 3.5k for suspension parts/work they wish to know that their money is being well spent with the best intentions of getting the car "right".

Just a note for everyone. Bill has told me the CR Hybrid is equivalent to the Stage 4

I think we need some K04 hybrid comparisons, as the figures will be the proof. After speaking to Bill at the weekend he is just fitting hsi first K04 CR hybrid so hopefully he will post some interesting reading for us,

also if the cars owner is on the forum it would be nice for a review (Vagcom logs would be nice!!)

JBS thanks for the responses and agree with MR G these things happen.... Hopefully not anymore..

Yes he is fitting the hybrid to my car! along with new rods just to be on the safe side if the hype that it can produce 340-360bhp(i wont hold my breath for it), head gasket and down pipe. FMIC will come soon then a custom remap as we have no idea what map s on it.

note steve i have not said anything about power levels to you, so this figures are catagorically not mine - just to be clear
TDs figures are beyond optomistic imho and certainly never going to be realised

I sent you CR's equivalency in spec, and note again they did not claim power figures either... take heed.. especially for ya rods on unknown map - eak!

I know bill as i said earlier in this thread i didnt think it would be anywhere near those. I am just interested to see what a hybrid is actually capable of.

Badger5, can you elaborate on the CR hybrid being equivalent to the TD stage 4 (as per the list of mods to the K04 listed in TD datasheet further up the thread)?

If so, thats exceptionally good value from CR Turbos.

This is what Bill sent me

below is what CR's is in comparison to TD hybrids
The Stage 1 (MD299) has uprated thrust and K04-024 Compwheel. (eg vauxhall Astra)
The Stage 2 (MD212) Is the above, but also with a cutback to shaft
The Stage 3 (MD364) Has the billett K06 wheel (the one we use) and Cutback to standard shaft
The Stage 4 (MD421) Has the billett K06 wheel and larger shaft.
**The stage 4 is the same spec as we are doing for you now....**

I think its great the way some threads change to end up supplying some worth while information like above,

it gives a 'idea' of how these hybrids are built. Thanks

that was half the reason i put the info up as its always handy when you use the search engine

That's what the forum is all about, sharing information etc. If only everyone would use the search engine...

I know bill as i said earlier in this thread i didnt think it would be anywhere near those. I am just interested to see what a hybrid is actually capable of.

me too.. in real world non-biased as it is, tell it how it is terms.. aka what I do
Be interesting to see for sure

I know TD claims look extremely optomistic in real world application.
wont be long before we find out tho.
Bill
