Oil Catch Can mini group buy anyone? including PCV system simplification.

im up for this too ollie, £85 is too much of a bargain to resist

thanks to ollie & imteyaz for sorting this out :)

( 1can + hose please )

Done :icon_thumright:

1. OllieH - Can & Hose
2. Imteyaz - Can x 2
3. Speedy Steve - Can & Hose
4. Morgan-VAGCHECK - Can & Hose
5. 1Animal1 - Can & Hose
6. Westle - Can & Hose
7. J B - Can & Hose
8. The Doctor - Can & Hose
9. S3-Chris - Can & Hose
10. jonny87 - Can & Hose

Right then, I've had a reply back from Saikoumichi confirming the price. Each can will cost $85 with an additional $6 for delivery. Using a google exchange rate of 0.669 pounds to the dollar, that works out just short of £61. Add to that £4 (roughly) for me to send the cans on to you, and that totals £65. I will leave Imteyaz to post up his own payment methods and amount for the hose, but here are mine:

My paypal address is peter_hardy1@sky.com

Looking at this paypal page: https://www.paypal.com/uk/uk/cgi-bi...a056acd1538874a43d73a07f26b2caf7353d6a9263490

it says that if you use funds already in your paypal account, or a bank account linked to paypal, then there are no charges. However, if you use a credit or debit card linked to paypal there will be a charge of 3.4% + 20p. I must ask anyone that uses the latter to cover the fees when sending me money, i.e £65 * 1.034 + 20p = £67.41. As much as I don't want to do this, I cannot afford to cover everyones fees myself.

With regards to me paying Saikoumichi, it lists normal payments as being free, however payments that need a currency conversion will include an additional fee of a 2.5% spread above the wholesale exchange rate obtained by paypal?? I think we will just have to wait and see what exchange rate paypal gives us and go from there. If anyone is any wiser when it comes to paypal fees and overseas transactions, please chime up.

If anyone would rather send their money to me via bank transfer please pm me and I will give you my account details. Also, whatever payment method used, please put your login name as a reference so I know what payment belongs to whom.

I will ask the people who are maybe coming to collect in person to pay me the full delivered amount now, and then if you do come and pick up, I will refund you the delivery fee there and then :icon_thumright:

As soon as I have all payments in I will place the order. Please note, it's not too late to still join the group buy, as long as I have recieved a payment by the time I want to order.

If I have missed any details out, please let me know.

Cheers

Ollie

I'll go with the same as Ollie using the same rules for payment, if your using a linked card and do not have adequate funds, please add the charges as per Ollie's post above, anybody wanting to do a bank transfer, please PM me and I will give you my details. If you want to send payment via Paypal, please send it to "imteyazgsheikh@hotmail.com". If you wish to come and collect (postcode area CV11), let me know and I will refund you your postage charges on collection.

The cost of the hose, the T-piece and P&P comes to £20.00 (give or take a few pennies).

Please let me (and Ollie) have your address details, (forum) username and possibly a contact email address / mobile number so that if there are any problems we can contact you directly.

The hose suppliers will only give a discount based on a minimum order of 10m (5 cans worth x 2m each) so I'll need payment for everybody wanting the hose before I can go and get the hose, I don't want to buy 22m of hose to find someone has pulled out hence the advance payment, Ollie's in the same situation as me so the sooner we get payment, the sooner we can get the parts out to you guys.

Please bare in mind that this groupbuy is done not as a profit making scheme but as a way of using this forum for the benefit of it's members, we all benefit from better prices using a groupbuy (thanks Ollie:icon_thumright:), both me an Ollie will try our best to keep you guys posted on the progress status of the order and fingers crossed, everyone will get a great deal out of it at the end!

So where are you planning on fitting the cans then?

I'm hoping to attach it to the plastic battery cover (A3, not S3) and just push the hoses onto the can (hope they dont slide off!) so that they can be slipped off when required, lift the battery cover (with can attached) and drain as required. Anybody got any better ideas?

Tbh on the s3 theres not many places to fit it.

Only place i found is where ive got it but would like to move it but dont know where to.

Hoping to get it in one of the following positions. Granted they're not S3 pics, but will just play around until it's in there and looking good.

I've just paid a visit to the hose suppliers and managed to get a sample so that we can get an idea of what we're using. The hose itself is quite thick, looks just like normal coolant hose but on closer inspection you can see that the inner wall is made from a slightly different material:

I got a jubilee clip to go over it and found the size to be 27mm diameter, we're gonna need a few of them!

As soon as everybody has paid up, I'll place the order and the suppliers have kindly offered to cut the hose in equal 2m lengths so it can be bagged and sent recorded delivery to everyone a.s.a.p.

(do these images need resizing? help.......):faint:

Yep, no problems. Will add you to the list. As above though, payments to me and Imteyaz asap so we can make the order. Cheers.

Ollie do you think its worth putting a deadline date to this group buy incase we keep getting the odd person every few days show their interest and slow down the process.

This isn't aimed at the two guys who have just signed up as I only showed my interest yesterday, but just a thought.

Yep, this is a good idea. I will make the deadline Saturday. This is mainly because I've not heard anything from S3-Chris yet, despite pm'ing him. It may just be that he's busy with work and will look at his pm's tonight or tomorrow morning, so I want to give him the benefit of the doubt

Looks like the pimpmyskoda link utilises the majority of spaghetti pipework that sits under the inlet manifold (suction jet pump / one way valve etc). I think I'm gonna go for the tuffty-stylie version and rip out as much junk as possible, blanking off any remaining ports as a result.

Similar to this: http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/269734.aspx?PageIndex=1

Then, next step - junk the SAI.

Job done, well almost, the list is always updated with another job to do...

ive decided to keep the SAI and just cut the pipework to the air box and put a 'vent to atmosphere' filter head down in front of the alternator, gets rid of the spag and keeps the SAI for the job its intended for

Let me know how you get on with that...im 50/50 whether to go the whole hog or just do a simple install
guess il fit it, clear error codes and see if it comes back again

Gonna do exactly as the uk-mkiv's thread and get rid of all the vacuum lines and suction jet pump under the manifold, and blank the port. The brake servo will be its own independant line coming from the side of the inlet manifold. The only thing that I will keep from the current setup is the PRV which I will use to regulate the airflow through the catch can when the turbo is boosting.

Hi guys, I have transferred the money, just waiting for it to appear in your bank accounts. Natiowide website advised it would take approx 3 working days to appear, so should be there on Monday. Sorry for the delay.

I'm with nationwide too and they do seem to be a little bit slower than other banks when transferring money. Money has definitely left my pocket and should be with you Monday too.

Cheers guys. We're just waiting on S3-Chris now, who I haven't heard from, so if anyone knows his number and fancies contacting him to let him know, please do. :icon_thumright:

Edit: I've just checked his profile and he was last on ASN 2 hours ago! I'll give him to the end of today to pay, after that he's dipped out, as I'll be ordering Monday.

UPDATE:

All payments now received, thankyou.

Got an email back today from Saikoumichi with their payment details, and have just sent $1092 through paypal. This works out as £746.49 as unfortunately the exchange rate through paypal wasn't as good as the google rate I worked everything out with, (which would have been £725!). They estimate about 10-12 days to ship but will try to beat that, so should be with me within 3 weeks hopefully, depending if there are any problems with customs. :icon_thumright:

As above, thanks to all those on the list who have paid.

As soon as I can get the time, I will pay a visit to collect the hoses, the T-pieces and the hose will then be posted out to all as soon as possible! I'll post up on here as soon as they have been posted out so that you can keep an eye out for it!

Update: Oil Hose ordered and paid for (they will cut it into 2m lengths so I don't have to, trust me, you wouldn't want me to.....)
Hose will be collected on Friday / Saturday (dependent on how quickly I can get away from work).
Hose and T-pieces will be posted out soon afterwards!

Time to get some 27mm OD jubilee clips ready guys, we would need around 8 in total(?).

big thanks to you two guys for sorting this out, much appreciated by all im sure :icon_thumright:

as the others say, if you need more monies to cover the exchange rate ollie, give us a shout

on another note, is it just me confused by the how to guide linked in the first post by ollie, i appreciate its not on an s3 but the principles should be similar? prehaps all will become clear once its in front of me and ive ripped half my pipework out the bay lol

does anyone know what size hose the chap on the vortex post used to convert the brake vacuum pipe and get rid of the nylon thread.....also need some 3/8 ID hose to blank the manifold off from beneath....

Brake vacuum pipe is 1/2" dia according to the link from UKMKIV's.
Pat who did the write up mentions using a 1/2" piece of nylon rod to block the port (that is what your asking isn't it or should I go back to sleep?

"I'm also wanting to cap the brake booster line and just use the 1 vac source for brakes. It works on the AGU and ARZ so no reason it shouldn't work on an AUM right? I used a 1/2" piece of nylon rod and a jubilee clip but have since replaced this section of the brake booster line. Picture of revised piece to be edited in later"
