Rear drivers cubby hole - Bose Amplifier

Hi all

This is probably a really easy question for a lot of you guys but how to I get into the rear driver side cubby hole in the boot? Are there screws or a latch? I had a quick look just now but couldnt see anything obvious. I am not getting any sound out of my bose system all of a sudden in my A3 just some clicking noises coming out of the speakers so wanted to check the amp out.

Position of securing clips
1 - Luggage compartment side trim
2 - Spring clips (4x)


- Luggage compartment side trim
q Left-side; with luggage compartment light
q Right-side; with socket: Removing and installing → Rep. Gr.96
Removing
– Remove rear seat bench → Chapter.
– Fold rear seat backrest forwards.
– Disengage securing cords from rear lid retainer and pull rear shelf to rear, out of mountings on side trim of luggage compartment.
– Remove luggage compartment floor covering.
– Remove rear cross panel trim: vehicles with front-wheel drive → Chapter; vehicles with four-wheel drive → Chapter.
– Unclip luggage compartment side trim -1-.
Trim (left-side):
– Unplug connector at luggage compartment light -4-.
Trim (right-side)
– If vehicle is fitted with socket, unplug electrical connector at luggage compartment socket.
All models:
– Take out luggage compartment side trim -1- to front.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order, note the following:

Renew spring clips -2- if damaged.
– Note position of securing clips → Fig..
– Before fitting luggage compartment side trim -1-, make sure spring clips -2- have been positioned correctly.
– After completing installation work, fit seal for rear lid -5- over luggage compartment side trim -1-.
2 - Spring clip
q Qty. 4
q Renew if damaged
3 - Flap
q Only on vehicles with navigation system with CD drive control unit -J401-
4 - Luggage compartment light
q Only fitted on left side
q Removing and installing → Rep. Gr.96
5 - Seal for rear lid
6 - Nut, 2 Nm
q Qty. 3
7 - Retainer for luggage compartment side trim
q Removing and installing → Chapter


Position of securing clips
1 - Luggage compartment side trim
2 - Spring clips (4x)

There's also two Torx bolts you need to remove along the top of the trim, one is hidden behind a blanking plate, fairly obvious. The boot lip trim is just clipped, so pull straight upwards.
Before doing this have you checked the fuse, there's very little at the amp to check. The connector is locked in place so it can't have come loose.

Hi guys, thats a really useful diagram, much appreciated paddy! AndyMac, so far I have checked the 30amp fuse under the bonnet if i remember F18 or F19 which is fine, I even changed it for good measure. When I took the fuse for the amp out I dont get any clicking at all out of the speakers as you would expect. I have also removed the Audi Concert HU and changed that 7.5 amp fuse too and the other 15amp fuse under the bonnet for the Radio. Its strange as apart from there is no sound, just clicking, the CD player operates fine, tunes to stations, plays the cds etc so I dont think its a faulty HU.

Also, strangely enough, everything started working again about 3 days ago but then following morning I was back to just the clicking noise coming from the speakers..

As you know with this Bose fitted systems all speakers are driven from the Amp so that could be a potential problem. I understand there probably isnt much to check, just visual check for now. If you have any more ideas let me know.

Well if the CD works then the amp is ok...sounds like you have just lost your radio Ariel connection

Hi Paddy, no the CD doesnt work, what I meant is that it plays a CD as in when you look at the HU you see a CD playing but still the clicking sound comes out of the speakers. All appears ok with the Radio, that tunes fine to stations, there is simply no sound coming from any speakers apart from a clicking noise.

How did you get on ??
I seem to remember there is a way of rigging the HU whithout the Bose sound correction but still using the Amp. you would have to check the wiring diagram on you HU, there is a wire there marked BOSE..Bit out of my depth with this. Could be worth either a thread with a more relevant title that might attract some HiFi bods or a thread in the ICE section on the main forum ...

You will probably laugh but I gave the panel on the cubby hole in front of were the AMP is mounted a quick "punch" and its now working... I didnt have time yesterday to get into the cubby hole space. I'm hoping it just continues to work for a while as I am due a new car soon
