hid's failed..wiper motor?
those of you who have used aftermarket h.i.d's and have had a wiper motor fail, have you got 'AUTO HEADLIGHT SWITCH/AUTO LIGHTS????
Im trying to narrow it down.....could the cars (a3's 2004 onwards) that have failed wiper motors could it be cars with auto headlight switch/lights that have the problem??????

TBH mate - i doubt its got anything to do with the auto lights as im pretty sure the wiper motors in a car with or without auto lights will be the same...

maybe someone with etka could check?

I'm not suggesting anything but from your question I thought you were looking for a common link between the wipers and the auto light switch.

everyones sayin dont retrofit hid's it kill the wiper motor,im tryin find out if it only fais on cars that have auto headlight switch

Its probably the startup load thats causing electrical issues on the wiper motor which seems to have links to the LIN bus which I did some tracing through but couldnt link it up & can only believe its the supply to both systems thats causing feedback to the wiper motor

I've already advised you along these lines, you've I think pretty much asked the same questions 3 times, the HID's if aftermarket will cause you issues no doubt at some stage, for safety sake for your car systems & your pocket plus peace of mind it is better overall to find a set of oem's & fit these, many people have already complained of this fault, what you're effectively doing is trying to save yourself a few hundred pounds, where the fault if it does occur will cost you £2-300 to repair it, so I cant see your logic whatsoever in this thought process, afterall trying to do you a favour to save you trouble later on, I suggest you take heed of these warnings before you buy a cheap kit & then find issues on the car

But your car so entitled to do what you like, but question is, if we do trace the issue what difference is it to you anyway cause it will probably show that installing aftermarket will still be problematic even after 9 months.

Ive Blown 2 wiper motor in as many weeks i thought it was the snow and ice wife bought me hid for crimbo off ebay fitted them 2 weeks ago a3 1.9tdi 5 door no auto lpghts or rain sensor so nowt to do with them i need help

it was sportbacks wi the problem i think right? also prehaps adding a diode would stop the damage from the power surge on switching the lights off, not sure how to get around the initial arcing

What help do you need? Remove the HID's and put them in the bin. Put a new wiper motor in and the problem will disapear!

Perhaps a flux capacitor would be useful.

I'll just go get the delorean. :)

and invest in real xenons that dont blind everyone if you want them next time, its worth it in the long run

its good to know people are still helping out on here 1 year later !:noway:

I dont think it is a case of not helping, but stating the facts.

It has been looked into extensively, and there is no way to stop aftermarket hid's blowing the wiper motors.

He asked for help, and the only thing he can do is take them out, and put them in the bin.

I would have loved to say there is an easy fix but there isnt.

Of course, we could lie and tell him they will be fine :p

I had HID's on my a3 3.2 (with auto lights/wipers) and it caused the the wiper motor to blow, £400 for my dealer to fix,not nice.

My S3 has them as standard but I must say if I ever had another car in the future without xenons(doubt it) I wouldn't be putting an HID kit on

400? it only cost me around 120 for the part!, note mine didnt blow relevant to hid's, i would never fit them the switching inside them burnt out ftl

just noticed the back to teh future reference you snuck in there scottie :)

its possible if the operation of the lights activates a relay, keeping the hid circuit seperate from the lights etc

What is the actual difference between oem and aftermarket?

Would simply using an oem ballast on another kit cure the problem?

Just looking at it logically. :)

Thats just giving up there must be a way round this problem + the light look orsum

yes and no but if youre gonna go buying oem stuff why try and mix it in, the oem lights look 1000 times better than oems with hid's, you get better vision dont upset people plus haveing xenons retrofitted will increase the value of the car, whereas if i saw hids fitted id be steering well clear as it would tell me the car has had a half job done on it

as for the alt bulbs dont go for the bosch ones mine burnt out in less than 7 months and the pattern was ****** well before then, im royally ****** off and have lost all my fair in bosch

I've had aftermarket HID For a Year now With Now problems at All. You have to get specific Audi A3 Aftermarket HID From Ebay. But Only For The Audi A3. And you should be fine.

i always thought that only the sportbacks experienced the problem, and youve a 3 door right?

Hi All,

Are there any guides or pictures of anyone doing a retrofit to an A3 8P with the OEM Xenons/Projectors?

Cheers,
K.

I put OEM projector Xenon headlights (the original 2004 type not the later bi-Xenons) into my A3 8P and there's a write up on a previous thread if you search for it.
My issue was that although I had OEM headlights, I used aftermarket ballasts and went through three wiper motors. At the point that my A3 went out of wrranty and they stopped swapping my wiper motors for free, I put the old headlights back in and just put some ordinary Philips X-Treme vision H7 halogen bulbs into them.

With regard to P5SND's bulb failure and alignment issues - the bottom line is that whatever the "brand" on the bulb, no genuine bulb manufacturer makes H7 or any other "normal fitting" Xenon bulbs.
They're all made by taking a genuine Xenon bulb and fitting an H7 or other base to it - and the quality of the beam pattern will vary with the precision of the fitting of the base.
I had an H7 HID kit on an Alfa 156 - one bulb was good, one was "off" and I could never get a perfect beam pattern with it.....

it wasnt a xenon bulb just one of the xenone white looks i was just lazy i thought id stated they were halogen which is why i was abit disguisted

Hi,

Do you have pictures of the philips x-treme lights?

Thanks,
K.

its very simple to overcome this one guys and gals! what u need to do is cut the earth wire going to the wipermotor (remember to give ur self enough wire to attatch another) and lay a new one to the earth terminal on the battery! its extremly easy do to and should take too long! :w00t:

the reason that the aftermarket kits blow the wiper motors is because of the inital spike of power they generate on inital start up, they backfeed through the shared earth down under the N/S/F headlight and it backs right up to the wiper motor and boom the wipers dont work ... i've done this on my 2007 A3 over 2 months ago now and i've had no problems at all! :jump:

hope this helps some of u in the future!

good man ! hope it works, how u work that one out lol?

Problem is the issue has popped up even 9 months or so later, so 2 months isnt that long tbh, but hey if its works then great, but I still dont recommend aftermarket hid's as it may still be an issue later & mot rules to come in will prohibit them full stop.

Audi A3 blows the wiper motor if u install a regular HID.

There is an European company that has been selling an exclusive HID for Audi A3 for more than 2 years.

You can find more info in their Blog:
Kit de Xenon para Audi A3 8P (+2003) « Welldone Lighting

Their website in Europe:
Audi A38P - Well-Done

There are eclusive HID for:
- Audi A3 (2003 - 2009)
- Audi A3 Restyling (+2010)

US website:
Welldone Lighting - German cars Experts (7 years experience in Europe)

European Audi forums like Audisport-Iberica use to make purchasing groups to them.

Have a look here:

(Audisport Forum just updated the complete forum, so some post dissapear and other have wrong date)

Even some people sells this Exclusive HID for Audi A3 on ebay:
Kit Xenon Audi a3 8P H9 & D2S No Rompe Motor del limpia en venta en eBay.es (finaliza el 29-mar-11 23:18:22 H.Esp)

To bad that AudiSport-iberica forum is not fully working right know, maybe you still can read the old post from 2007 or 2008 using google (cache).

People use to make buying groups for this A3 HID kit. They buy like 20 - 30 each time and there was never 1 wiper motor broken. So this proves this HIDs are working properly.

These are some pics from people using this A38P HID:

I see you obviously work for them as you seem to be doing the rounds:

VWVortex.com - Another wiper motor failure due to aftermarket HIDs

As you can see in vortex forum, Im the new dealer in United States for this brand.

Anyway i think it´s important enought to let you know that the problem you have been discussing since 2006 in the forum is already solve by Welldone since 2008.

IF i don´t say anything: BAD because people will keep having problem with wiper motors.

IF i give you a solution: BAD because I work with them

As an Audi Owner, user of Audisport-iberica with all I know about the Audi A3 & the HID problem I can´t hide this information.

I thought everybody was expecting to know something about it for years & willing to find a HID that works with the Audi A3 8P... maybe I was wrong.

Nobody needs to trust my words, you just need to use google to find Audi A3 owners with this HIDs working for years.
