Drivers side window

Just after a bit of advice tbh.

Ever since my car went in to have warranty paint work done on it a few months ago i have been having nothing but trouble with the drivers side window.

It goes down fine but on the way up, it begins to judder and then comes down again, either by a few inches or completely down to it's full extent.
It has been annoying me for a while the other day it went all the way down and then wouldn't even move at all so i had to take the door card off, then the rubbers and get my hand in and pull it up. otherwise my window would still be open =(

I'm thinkin that it could be the motor that has gone and just doesn't have enough power to lift the window but i am unsure.
Ever heard of this before or had any experiences similar?

Cheers.

I found this write up the best. It is actually linked in the thread I posted before but links don't show up too well unless you do them yourselves these days so you may have missed it.

Ive got a similar problem...I swear everything seems to being wrong at once on my car.
Put the window down and it sounded really crunchy then wouldnt go up more than halfway then went back down by itself. Took the door card off in tesco car park, buzzed the window up n down trying to listen where the noise was coming from n what the hell was going on. The noise was coming from the motor but knew it wasnt ******** as it was working then noticed at the bottom the metal cable was frayed which was obviously locking up inside the motor preventing it from going up all the way, have managed to force it about an inch away from the top encase it rains.
Can you get a new cable from GSF or somewhere?

its a clip on the window regulator, little blue one that guides the window. it brakes so wen the window goes up it has too much movement and tilts so its brain tells it to go back down! pain in the ***! had it on mine and they dont sell the clip seperately so ya have to buy a new regulator...it comes in retail at £ 81.17 part number 8L3837462
its a fairly simple job if ya know how the door comes aprat. the frame comes out the door shell completely.the its pretty simple to get at. oh and the regulator is revited on so ya will need a rivet gun and somes rivets.
good luck!!!

I got 4 clips from audi to do both my windows at a total cost of about 8 quid. If audi told you that you had to have the whole unit I would recommend you go back and complain.

I phoned gsf this morning asking if they had the cable but said you cant get the cable seperately and would need to buy a new regulator which is £63+vat :sadlike:

Sorry for hijacking this thread but didnt want to start a new one.
Found a regualtor cable on ebay which states its for an a3/a4/a6 98-03. Will this fit my S3, I can't see why it wouldn't but just want confirmation.
Also can't ask the seller because "The seller is not answering questions at this time" apparently, which is helpful..........not!

I'd say it is unlikely that the same cable fits an A3, A4 and A6, but not the S3. I think the only difference between an A3 and S3 door is the plastic mouldings on the outside isn't it.

All audi dealers can get the Clips in and they are the same ones as on an A6 as that is what this part number is for: 4B0 837 463B

Mine are coming in on weds and cost £2.95 each inc VAT.

For not having to **** about with postage it's a case where the stealers is chaeper. Use the guide as listed on here. by @tompearson
