haha na not really, chap was giving me grief with an X reg earlier, sat right up my *** so i overtook car in front to his suprise and must have caught him off boost, anyway, i pulled off onto my road before he could catch up just to annoy him and not give him the chance

put it this way if i had stopped to pull onto my road he would have gone into the back of me even after indicating for a few hundred yards, why do scoob drivers drive so aggressively, theres just no need

i know the S3 isnt that much slower as ive had a few tussles with these cars, but being in front is not an advantage

I think there must be allot of slow subaru's around the bracknell area, i'm forever getting them with there massive loud exhausts pulling up next to me at the traffic lights reving and such but i always wipe the smiles off of their faces when the lights go green.

I'm not one to race about but in all honesty it puts a big smile on my face.

There is one particular WRX or so i thought because of the 500kg or so of stickers on it that was slow as ***, turned out to be N/A! Why would you do that to a fast subaru let alone a bottom spec turboless bag of excrement?... (rant over lol)

I'm pretty sure it would. All the ones I've been in are savage quick, standard maps too. You sure it was an STi and not just a 1.8 N/A with all the kit on it Tim?

S3's are nice cars and they're pretty quick but as has been said before (maybe to the annoyance of some) there are plently of cars out there that will see them off without too much bother....most things jap with a turbo spring to mind (apart from Charade Turbos!)

Most do, imo they are chav cars, no class unlike the S3, and common as muck!
The S3 wouldnt be far off an what you are looking at is a hot hatch. scoobys are more of an s/rs4 kinda comparison in terms of being a saloon (old ones at least)

I dont like scoobs.. Poor mans evo. lol.. Nah just personally dont like it. They are very quick though. I just think some scooby drivers are novices to the power and get carried away with it.. I think if a good driver was behind one then i dont think the s3 would win although it wouldnt be miles behind, probably a few cars lengths. I think the (B5) S4 would give it a run for its money but the rs4 would scare the scoop and spoilers off it. And im also not a fan of the STI badges.. One funny time my missus seen one and said, "why does it say STi? just makes people think it has some infection?" lol.

Lovin' all the comments, has any of you STI slaters driven one? I took an STI(one with PPP I must admit) and an EVO FQ300 for test drive back to back on the same day, and if anyone thinks their remapped S3 can keep up, then they are dreaming! And this is coming from an S3 owner!! Class apart, of course the S3 wins, it a nice place to be inside an S3, but you don't but Scoobys and Evo's for the comfort and interior, they are for thrashing about and getting from A-B in double quick time, and you will most likely have a smile at the end of your journey.

No comparison in my opinion.

as for the audi's, there are some seriously misguided "dubbers" out there. VAG stuff shouldnt have stupid aftermarket lights, shuoldnt have anything OTT, even non VAG wheels are pretty dubious in a lot of cases

there are a fair few chavved cars of all varieties out there but practically every scoob you see is a chav eye sore. look at the spoilers they leave the factory with, i mean wtf is that all about?!

tbh the STi would beat most hatches. Stock there is a good 70bhp difference with the s3.

In the real world on roads where you cant open up etc it might seem like theres not much difference but id say on a track the scooby would win hands down. However i once beat a Lamborghini in my old 1.4 306 off the lights. The lambo stalled which was hilarious.

Having owned both I'd say the Impreza is definately faster and with my 100k S3 handling the way it does due to worn suspension (due to be all renewed) the Impreza would be my choice if forced to choose one in a short period of spirited driving on private roads.

The S3 is not a fast car, I mean sometimes I have trouble with the powerful diesels they are starting to make, lol, what a joke!. BMW 335D no chance, might as well pull over!

Fact is the S3 has a lack of power, given the addition of 4WD (sometimes lol) it makes for a pretty poor excuse at an S model. Don't get me wrong I love my car (hate the squeaks) but it will never be an Impreza or as fast as one in standard form.

The car (Impreza) is for want of a better word "Raw", where as the S3 is refined. Less Weight + more power equate to the Impreza winning hands down. I loved my Impreza, didn't love the fact it blew 3 engines, 2 gearboxes and had a replacement ECU. The way it drove and the balance of the car through the corners, exiting roundabouts etc was phenomenal. Getting the car sideways and controlling it was easy as abc. Try doing that in an S3.

I know the debate is "straightline" speed but even then the S3 would always be the car behind. Impreza engines are not refined and need rebuilding often to get the best from them.

Above are my views....not necessarily right or wrong, just my views based on experience.

comes down to driving skill and general condition of the motor. If both are in prime condition with the stig driving both then the scooby would win

Just traded in my re-mapped 2000 S3, my fiance has an impreza STI. We have had the side by side and there is a big difference. She was driving the STI and she still hammered me.

My missus is a good driver tho and is pretty quick on the twisties too so I take no shame!

Hit the nail on the head.

Anyone who says the S3 is quick and handles well simply hasn't had experiance of cars that do do both.

S3 is too FWD orientated which to an inexperianced driver gives more confidence and allows you to get to the limits of its handling, however an inexperianced driver in a fulltime 4wd def won't be able to push it to its limits. There is no way in this world a std S3 would come close to an STi and even a modded S3 would get its **** handed to it on a plate
