S3 vs LCR

Don't you love these threads, especially in biased forums, the LCR is always gonna be the pick in a Seat forum, and the S3 over here.

Loving the value argument also, S3 is not worth £8K more than LCR out the box, I say LCR is for paupers. :moa:

At the end of the day, we should be happy to own any of these cars... LCR or 8L Audi S3? Go get yourself a CTR!

:iagree: BUT the interior on the LCR is bland and tacky. And although it looks better i don't think it has the same classy appearance as the S3!!

I was gonna get an LCR before i bought the S3. Why? Because it was much cheaper, newer reg and with lower mileage! I do love the look of them, although the interior could be a bit better. The optional Recaro's i've seen in some of them looks so much better than standard! Then my brother kept telling me how bad traction's gonna be when i map it, 265bhp through the front wheels wouldn't be nice lol.

Then there's the S3... it has Quattro, perfect for traction and more power. I'm running 260bhp and the way it goes off the mark is shockingly quick! Going around corners isn't a problem either! The interior is a hundred times better than the LCR. When you open the doors to an S3 you're greeted by those huge chunky Recaro's! Whether it's all leather or leather & alcantara, they're both sweet as. I can't forget to mention... some of us have Bose :) The S3 is an elegant looking car and holds a silly amount of value.

I'm so glad i chose the S3 over an LCR, it's a much better car. Plus, if you ever chat up a female, they wouldn't know what an LCR is. No matter how hard you try to make it sound nice it will still come out wrong because of what it is! It has some kinda chav-ness to it, i just don't know what it is.

"What do you drive then you sexy man!?"

"I drive a Seeyaatt Leon Coooopra lav!"

Again...

"What do you drive then you sexy man!?"

"I drive an Audi S3. Would you like a ride in my big comfy Recaro's and listen to the sweet sound of.........Bose?"

Can't believe soo many of them say the s3 is boring....
I can as its seatcupra forum but there is different ways to interpret 'boring' as some people could just say its safe

Leon is an S3 cheaper alternative and when you get inside one the build/quality is not as good,I love the look of the new shape ones though

And just like the good people from the Seat forum, you lot or all waxing lyrically about the S3!

Incidentally, the interior of the Leon is pretty much the same as the S3 isnt it? Same dash, switchgear, dials, steering wheel, handbrake and surround etc. The only major difference is the seats?

Jeez, that thread is seven years old !!! bad enough reviving ones on here but to link one !!! :asskicking::asskicking::asskicking::asskicking:

The upper part of the dash is the same (except the trim is different) but the console is different. Much more nicer details also.

funny how each forum has its fave.. lol

s3 boring on scn, lcr "cheap" on asn

lol

s3 is slow.. lcr is faster car like for like power.they are'nt a million miles away mechanically folks
wish vag group had allowed the leon 20vt4 to be made in rhd for uk market... as that would have been a great package

8L S3's are cheap enough now to be in the hands of chavs... watch out folks.. you may get a rep based on what others end up doing to their cars, however bad their taste may be.. same happening on the seats now they are cheap as chips.. corsa/saxo owners are upgrading.. eak!

*not all are chavs obviously.. but there's an increase for sure..

I was also seriously considering an LCR before i went for S3, you do get alot more for the cash. They are more aggresive looking and do look sweet when lowered and a few bits done. But they are 5 door, and they are also seriously heavy, and have no excuse as doesnt have quattro (well a very few did).

Im so glad I went for S3, might have cost alot more but its not money gone (unless you crash it) because the value will always be high on such a quality car.

Iv never seen a chav driving an S3 yet badger

I considered the LCR for quite a while, just as they seemed like more value for money and they had the ever important rear doors (baby seat friendly), however, I was sold by the seats, xenons, quattro all as standard, albeit a little more expensive, but its an Audi at the end of the day, which I would never regret buying.

I reckon I would be pretty pleased with the LCR if i ever did go for one, but would always run the risk of higher depreciation, which would end up costing me more for when I would want to get an S3.

I did recently take a new shape Leon FR (diesel) out for a test drive in the wet, its traction was TERRIBLE, I couldnt believe it, even had to question the salesman as to why it was so bad he just replied with they are always like that...I literally was going nowhere fast!!

Have to say the new ones do look VERY nice in white with the full kit on them :hubbahubba:

Iv never seen a chav driving an S3 yet badger[/QUOTE]

Had a scare once when i saw what appreaed to be a silver S3 coming towards me with about 10 chavs rammed in. It had the s3 badge on the front grill. As it passed i checked in the rear view mirror not to see the twin exhaust. Made me chuckle.

Cant say the S3 is more common, its very rare i see another S3 in west yorks.

I spent so long looking for a nice LCR that I'd saved up enough cash for an S3. I've driven both and personally think that the S3 is better all round car, not worth the extra cash when bought from new but definitely when buying second hand (of course i'd say that as i've got one!). The interior of the S3 is undoubtedly better, a much more solid feel and looks far better than the LCR. As for performance, we live in a rather wet and damp England, this definitely suits the S3's 4x4, there's nothing like flooring it in the wet and just flying forwards! The LCR probably would probably catch up around 70-80, but how often do you race to this speed apposed to standing starts in the UK? When it comes to looks, imho the LCR looked much better but now looks a little dated, especially from the rear. The S3 never looked as good but kinda aged better. As for running costs, the LCR wins every time, from my experience Audi charge a lot more for everything than Seat. I guess this is because your servicing a car that initially cost a lot more than the LCR and comes from a more 'prestigious/upmarket' company. I really like both but the interior and 4x4 of the S3 swayed me in the end. If your after a nice car you cant go wrong with either, if you want to tune one of them the S3 offer more potential, especially with the 4x4.

I dont think chavs have the brains to buy an audi. Ive seen loads of idiot with there collars up starring at you( There probally my age though lol) driving around in the new shape fiat puntos, around my way thats all you see, chavs upgrading from **** cars to **** cars. They must cost over 6k for the newer shape anyway!! when you can get an a3 for 4k easy! does wind me up!

I was really close to getting one but I hated the inside of it. Really cheap feeling seats and plastics etc etc. Great looking car though.

I opted for a low mile A3 with leather and all the toys because it was a nicer place to be. I do like them though :)

i love the new Leons but the interior is absolutely tripe!!! what an obomination .....the old LCR, i love the looks, although the interior is obviously the same as ours but with much cheaper materials which wear far quicker.....

essentially they have their own benefits, would i change my S3 for one? not a chance in hell :)

Iv never seen a chav driving an S3 yet badger

you will in due course i am sure
keep an eye on forum threads about atmospheric dv's and the like, how can i make my dv louder etc etc
its the beginning

same on all now older performance models, not just s3's. LCR's etc also getting too affordable in some respects

s3's are ok.
driving an s6 and previously an s8 however, they are certainly audis "budget" offering with their fare share of issues

Theres a dv currently on here. with a quote saying "dv sound sooo good"!

They seem naive to the fact that audis better than seat, one person came to belive the lcr is better as he can over take s3's when on the motorway. Anyone can drive in a straight line! I would get a seat though.

Would this now be the time to mention that the S3 shares the same chassis with the Skoda Octavia VRS?? ;P

<tuffty/>

never realised that!!! although sick of these people splurting crap about 'well it's an Audi underneath' ....do they ot realise that it may likely be the same pattern but highly likely to be a different lower grade material used - some people genuinely think they are buying a bargain!!

lol, now there's a smug bunch of fellas
skoda an audi under a different badge just better value in a lot of their eyes

i think not personally
worst car i have ever had to misfortune to own was a vrs octy (previously modified)

S3 is a nice car... lcr is a nice car.

each to their own of course & whatever floats ya boat. if you enjoy yours all good.

I concur... LCR is a fine looking car IMO... S3 is more subtle than the LCR for sure which is one reason I prefer it, interior wise though is a different matter... LCR 'shares' the dash and various components with the Audi but you sit in an S3 then sit in an LCR and it just doesn't have the same feel of class that the S3 has... IMO of course...

You can fit bigger FMIC's to LCR's though ;P

P.S. Soz Jase... had to be said though...

<tuffty/>

as i sit in my armchair fully heated eletric recaros, with the nice rumble of a v8

bigger S models rule - hehe

...until you have to replace that lovely gearbox of yours bud ;P LOL...

<tuffty/>

We can have rumbly V8's too...

My brother owned 2 LCR's. Nice car, his first one had a random map with 30psi and that went like **** off a shovel lol...promptly got it overwritten with a revo map just so we knew what we were dealing with but a real fun car to drive. I liked the interior, nice cloth recaros just not quite the same build as the S3.

I went for the S3 because its an Audi...because its awd...because of the leather/interior and because I feel its better looking than the Leon.

Don't you think that Seat's styling dates really quickly? Look at the 8L S3; it still looks classy. Look at a similar age Seat; it just looks dated to me.

Second major point for me is FWD vs 4WD; as soon as it rains you're ******** with FWD, whereas 4WD sticks like "stuff" to a blanket in any weather! And much less torque steer too.

I like the LCR though i'd rather have my S3 which is why I bought one :)

if I had of bought the cupra I'd of always looked at the S3 and thought why didn't I buy one of those instead, same can't be said with the leon though...

If a newbie may comment?

Ive owned both now, and biases considered i do feel the S3 is the better car, but as with all these things its relative, to what you want from a car. Also everything is just someones opinion so it should by definition be your own opinion you use to make your decision.

I also owned the leon Cupra Diesel which I chipped to 180 and it hag crazy torque, out pulled a civic TR mid range and still gave me 53 to the gallon so theres an argument there too if that all fits your needs.

I tested the newer Leon Cupra, nice drive, quick, nice sound (it has an engine sound enhancement im told in the exhaust?) but its interior was awfull, no different from the other models, just nice seats, really put me off as Seat simply lost interest and didnt finish off the interior to compliment the rest of the car, shame.

The 4WD in the S3 is a worth any difference in cost or speed even over the LCR...again, just my opinion.
