As title also what are the diameters F23 / R19 ? (searched loads for part numbers cant find a sausage)

thanks

Matt

Your right mate R32 ARB's are 23mm front and 19mm rear. I believe the part numbers are 1J0411305AF for the front and 1J0511409K for the rear one.

Wow, they are some pretty poor size ARB's for a 3.2 V6 :S

My '98 Civic has 36mm front and 18mm rear, i would have imagined the R32 would have been bigger than said :/

matt,
im guessing you are going to get some prices for these?
could you let me know please when you do as the whiteline front arb has been discontinued and unsure how many are left in stock :(
so may have to settle for r32 arbs instead
cheers

I was planning on getting the whiteline ARBs in the next month or so! Jonny, is that the info you've received from Balance Motorsport? Are they completely out of stock? If so, looks like I'll be considering R32 bars aswell.

from my local dealer the price are as follows for R32 ARB'S:

Front ARB £76.79
2 x Bolts £1.98
2 x Clips £14.96

Rear ARB £101.33
2 x Bolts £1.56
2 x Clips £10.38

Bushes i will source from somewhere else looking at super pro's

I didnt actually get the prices someone got them for me so RB's could be the other way round but anyway pretty reasonable.

this is what damian at dpm has told me, whitleine discontinued the front arb
balance motorsport still list both but am assuming their stock will be low, i have emailed them on a related matter and upoun their reply will ask how many sets they have left, possible group buy?

nice one mate, quick totting up makes it £210 ish?

whitelines are £235 and come with new bushes

as above have asked of any chance of further discount for group buy of whitelines, will update asap

not quite sure what the clips are for i assume they mount over the bush to hold it in place, superpro bushes are about £30 delivered possibly less if you shop about. So all in about the same as whitelines.

Not much in it between R32s and Whitelines pricewise then.

So it comes down to which is a better match for the S3 - 2mm difference (Whiteline 20mm F, 18mm R) or 4mm difference (R32 23mm F, 19mm R) and does the S3 need the extra thickness of the R32 ARBs?

If you receive info from Balance re: the Whitelines stock level or group buy, can you let me know aswell please?
Cheers!

Read the post I put a link to, the white line is only 1mm bigger than the standard S3 front ARB (19mm), the improvement is had by increasing the bar size and keeping the front and rear in proportion. You can buy a 20mm OE front ARB for the TT which should fit the S3 if you wanted to go down the whiteline route. I think the R32 would be the better option. I could be wrong at the end of the day I've only driven my S3 which is still standard.

Now, if my memory regarding ARB twinting forces serves me well, a 2mm thicker bar = twich as stiff as the original...4mm = 4 times stiffer and 6mm = 8 times thicker...I think that's correct (square rule and all that!)

going from that the whitelines will be 1.5 times stiffer on the front and 3 times as stiff on the rear (ish)
also in the other thread knocking around atm about arbs i said that the whitelines arb's have adjustment, so it is possible to get them to the same stiffness as the neuspeed arbs

i think they are good quality for the money and no one else on here seems to have them installed so il be the ginuea pig here :)

Ess_Three did a load of testing and the info can be foun d in the stickies... in his opinion (and its normally a pretty good opinion) a combo or Bilstien B8 dampers, H&R -25mm springs and 22mm front ARB/19mm rear ARB gives the S3 excellent handling characteristics making it more neutral in the corners and not comprimising ride quality.

Going 23mm/19mm using the R32 ARB's retains the S3's current understeer preference (although less pronounced with the thicker bars) so you gain flatter cornering ability but retain existing handling characteristics which some may say is a little safer

I shall be using R32 ARB's when I get around to it, handling is also about personal preference... no point in setting the car up to oversteer if thats not how you like to drive...

billies and h&r's cost an absolute bomb, way too much imo for what people use their cars for and i feel the same about the arbs

its ok if you got a couple of grand to chuck at it but what if you only got £500?

as said before im confident that the adjustment in the whitelines will give the desired stiffness, a bit of trial and error maybe but a saving of almost £200 has to be a win?

Uprating the ARB's on std suspension can make things worse... the OEM dampers are crap at best and considering the mileage on most S3's they are absolute rubbish....

On OEM dampers the car will wallow through bends and even more uncontrollably with stiffer ARB's...

Granted B8's are expensive but if you have £500 to spend on suspension do dampers and springs first, ARB's after...

Ive had a response from Balance Motorsport. They have 2 x 20mm front Whiteline ARBs left and 2 x 22mm front Whiteline ARBs, and plenty of rear 18mm bars to go with them. However they say there is a possibility of having more made if the demand is there. Id prefer the Whitelines to the R32 ones, cheaper, better ratio of thickness between front and rear, they are adjustable and they come with all the gubbins needed for installation. Thanks again to Jonny for pointing me in the direction of Balance Motorsport.

They confirmed the £235 for the 20mm/18mm setup. I didnt inquire about group buys or anything though.

i think the r32 setup is the better option tbh, still a littleconfused about the bushes clips & bolts (where do they all go ?) anyone got know of a installation guide ?

there are 2 clips per bar, the clips mount over the bushes if i remember correctly and bolt up to chassie. The rear bar is easy, i had a garage fit the front thou
