Hi all,

I've just bought an A4 2.0 tdi S line but it has a couple of little issues I'd like to sort out. I'm hoping that somebody on here might be able to guide me in the right direction.

Firstly the car has a knocking noise when I go over bumps. It comes from the front and seems to be the drivers side. You can feel a sot of looseness to it. The wheels also wobble at speed. I had them balanced and had the tracking done but it hasn't really made any difference.

The second thing is its performance. I'm sure its not as quick as it should be. Granted, I've come to a 140 bhp diesel from a 281 bhp VXR but I still expected more. It completely runs out of steam at 3k and there seems to be a delay when putting my foot down too.

Other than those two things and the fact that Audi are tighter than a ducks bum not putting the switch in to work the computer as standard I love it.

Anyone have any ideas what these issues could be?

Thanks in advance

is it the Auto? there is a delay when you accelerate, well, mine does.

I had Audi check my car on the mid-range as i thought it seemed sluggish. all is ok tho.

Is it still in warranty?

The knocking could be from any part of the suspension..in my experince..the bearings get knackered, but dont know on a A4. The diesels dont hav that much umpfh after 3000 revs, like most people have on the forum, get a chip or get it re-mapped, changes the whole set up....jus listen to that Turbo whistleee..

The cars a manual and is out of warranty now.. Its got a pretty lumpy tickover too and looking on here I was wondering if I might have a clogged up EGR on it. KI'd love a remap as my old passat 130 diesel went well after it had been done but funds just don't allow it right now....Weddings are expensive it would seem!!

As for the knocking, I've also notced tonight that when on lock the car seems to slide as though one wheel is turned more than the other...Strange!

Reset your throttle body for a better response mate!..it actually works...or it could be some major turbo laqg u hav ther!... Im 19, wudnt know much about wedding costs, and hopefully dont have to for a bit longer!. Could be your hydraulics?..dont really know..get it checked out at a audi garage, but dont get it fixed by them, unless you wna go to Devon for ur honeymoon!

Hmmm, Devon's looking optomistic...I was thinking Bridlington!

Thanks for your help mate.

I had the suspension top mounts go on mine which were making similar knocking sounds to yours. About £50-60 each i think plus fitting if you dont want to do them yourself. As for the power delivery well its because is a diesel i would imagine, get it mapped they do go alot better then! The VXR's do go well, the diesel is obviously a shock to the system lol

My god this full lock problem is a well discussed issue on these cars. It seems this is very, very common with little or no option for rectification. Although some people have found that changing their tyres for new ones helped. To be honest though how much driving do you do on full lock?? I shouldnt worry too much mate.

There is definitely no pattern to this, mine only started doing it/I noticed it about 2 months after I had new tyres fitted. Strange one really, a bit of a design fault I think.

Ah, I'm glad im not alone on the full lock thing then.

It did seem to get worse when I had the tyres swapped front to back.

After a good few more miles worth of driving I've decided I definately need a remap, I was obviously expecting a drop in performance as my vxr was tuned to 281 bhp but I was hoping the torque of the diesel would make up for it a bit...

Just need to work out the best place to go for good money now.

theres loads mate im in the same boat at the minute, cnl, pendle performance, angel tuning, remap science, futuristic tuning.
and theres so many more!!!!!!!!!!!!
its doing my head in but everyone seems to rate each company!:faint:
