Hi all,

As the title suggests, would any of the Audi range RS honeycombe grills fit the S3? I realise that the TT-RS wouldn't (too small), but what about B7 RS4, or current RS6 model? Would probably need some alterations, but would they be extensive?

Someone has probably thought about this before, maybe even attempted it, any info would be great. :icon_thumright:

Cheers,

Rich

Nice Idea Rich, though i'd be surprised if it was possible to do it right.

BTW: Clean your car, it's nearly as filthy as mine..........

Lol! Maybe just have to wait until the RS3 is released then. I'll get my measuring tape out and find an RS6 parked up somewhere!

Cleaned the car on Sunday, drove for 5 mins, absolutely clarted again! The Ibis is a pure chore this time of year. Looking forward to living with Sprint Blue come March. It'll get as dirty I realise, just won't be as noticeable, well, to me anyway.

I swear I someone do it before, can't remember where I seen it. Sorry Rich, N8s pointless post =

I was looking to do the same mod. Looks like it can be done from the RS6 grille.

Hhmmm, not the look I expected. Is it because of the number plate bar thingy behind the grill? All RS cars seem to have the floating number plate, but the mod in this picture doesn't show off the grill as good as it could. Well, if you get what I'm saying?

Maybe just leave alone.

On the RS6 the honeycomb carries on across the number plate plinth too. The issue with the one above is the number plate is too far down and the Audi rings are blacked out.

like i said above that grill isnt a rs grill, its just a aftermarket grill

I realise this Chris, but as I said, the aftermarket isn't great, the look of the RS cars is better. As Japper points out as well, the boy has positioned the number plate too low and it shows the plinth behind. I still think that the RS cars don't have the plinth, but I can't be certain.

I'll keep investigating.

Rich,

As attached in my previous post, The RS6 and RSTT and new RS5 do not have a plinth but full honeycomb from top to bottom. The RS4 had / has a flat plinth similar to our std. grills.

Anybody know where the one above is from?. It's not EuroParts.com as they sell the OSIR mesh one only.

I think this will help a lot

Shows the rear of the RS6 grill, and you can see that the numberplate is just held onto the grill by 2 clip on things

Thanks smudge! I suppose we just need to know if the grill is the same size so that'll fit on a S3? I'm sure the 6 is wider, but not sure if the grill is the same size and it's just the body panels. This definately better though as it would retain the floating plate look. Without jumping the gun as we don't know if it would fit yet, but anyone know what sort of price this would be? I suspect an RS grill would command a pretty sum.

I'm seriously looking into it

Will get pricing and HOPEFULLY sizes shortly

Even if it was big enough, you'd have to get a custom fabrication done to get the honeycombe bits into the S3 grill surround

Thanks, that's how i imagined it would be. Which is why i think the guy with the one above has just chosen to put the plinth on too low. It seems like the Audi rings are seperate too, so you can have black or chrome no problem.

Still interested in locating supplier of above as we know that fits for sure.

Coils go on las nite jords?

No mate, Audi cocked up something with the new DSG box, should be ready today so i'm doing it tomorrow night

Ye it looks that way

I might get my bodyshop to have a go at making a custom S3 grill from the RS6, take the rings and the plate off so it's just the grille :hubbahubba:

Tidy mate. :icon_thumright:

Right, my local Audi charge £323.49 incl of VAT for the grille

I've posted up a thread in the RS6 forum to see if anyone can help with measurements

The other thing to consider with these 'new style' RS grills with no solid plate plinth, is that you'll have to spray black the steel supports behind. The plinth on the A3 / S3 will be hiding this.

Caractere do a honeycomb grill with solid plinth for the A5, but for some reason don't do one for the A3

The 'plain' plastic cross piece that the number plate attaches to.

Look up a couple of posts for the pic of the RS6 grill i posted

There is no "plate plinth" as the plate just sticks onto the grill by the looks of it

Exactly my point!, and hence you'll see through to any 'offending' metal / bodywork behind, unless you paint this bodywork.

Do a search for all the people that have retrofitted the RS6 grill to their std. A6. It seems there may a reason why we presently have a 'fixed plate plinth'

Hope this clarifies my previous post.

I managed to find the image that got me thinking about all this grill replacement. It was an artist's impression of how the RS3 could look on the 8P platform. Pretty tidy I thought, although not far off a lowered S3 with the honeycombe grill and a silver surround in my eyes.

That's exactly what i had in mind, but obviously with the S3 honeycombe grills for the fog lights also

The RS3 'could be' does look amazing. Like that guy off Robocop... I'd buy that for a dollar! More likely 36k though.:faint:

ive been looking into the honeycombe grill look for a while now as the s3 grill number plate holder does my head in, keep me posted on how you get on

Looks a lot better without the fog lights too, pointless invention anyway if you ask me.

You mean you've not go to Mc Donalds with your stereo thumping and your fog lights on to impress the girls :lmfao:
