Hi,

Been looking at this link here: http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?76906-8P1-8P2-or-8P3 which shows what the facelift A3 s line bumper looks like.

However there are many cars on sale which have the normal standard bumper as shown on that thread, but are described as s line, run the number plate from the auction below through on confused.com and coming up as a Sport??

But the badges, wheel etc all say s-line- Was s-line a model or a option pack? confused!

They did do s-line with that bumper however it's not facelifT he's lying or misled its the older sline bumper ...

now even more confused!
- thought 55- with large grill was facelift
- would a s line have a reason for showing up on the database as a sport?

Not necessarily and yes - my S-Line comes up as a Sport.

well its a facelife over the twin grill.... but then they over halled that to at the bottom which is mine the facelife sline

Do you know what else they changed, did they change interior etc at the time of the twin grill change or later with the lower bumper? or is it all the same apart from bumper and grill from 2004-2008?

some s-line's have cloth interior before the facelift , Dont ask why not sure but im sure all facelift slines have leather im sure other's peep's will know more than me ...

just went to the audi site and ran some used s lines against the database, seems many are with dvla as sport, weird

It looks like technically an S-Line used to be a "pack" applied to the Sport, despite there being some fairly major changes.

Sport and SE trim originally cost the same(2k over the base car) S-line came out and cost an extra £1000 over the sport, it added RS 6s style wheels, Black headlining, Illuminated vanity mirrors, perforrated leather steering wheel and gear knob, brushed ally trim, half leather sport seats and S-line badges on the bumper and sides of the car. It was also only available on DSG or quattro cars. There was the styling kit which was an extra and that cost another £950 adding s-line front and rear bumpers, S-line radiator grill and the rear spoiler. The car above is an S-line but didnt have the styling kit added. Hes called it a facelift because it is with the big grill bumper, there was a second facelift in 2007/2008 thats confusing people.

In 2006 Audi released the S-line Special edition which combined the exterior kit and added full leather to the car for alot less than the options added up to. After the SE was finished the exterior kit was dropped as an option and all S-lines came with the bumpers grill and spoiler. Not sure if full leather became standard or not.

Alot of cars were registered as sports on the V5 rather than S-line and people didnt get it put right. I sent my V5 of and had it rectified.

The confusion here is staz's original artical shows a twin grill as standard and a single drill as s-line. and there were many twin grill 05's.

I'm not sure what you mean there Paddy. The 8P1 had the same grill across the range but it was possible to get an S-Line of that era however it still looked the same. LeeR made things very clear the other day but I'm in a rush at the moment. I should add a link into that thread to include that caveat though I think.

think all s lines on have half leather as standard, dunno if wasnt case prior to facelift

yes all S lines whatever the age have at least half leather. The cloth in the centre sections is actually quite nice, has a carbon/kevlar sort of look to it. I like it because it doesnt crease up like the full leather.

So to answer the original question, yes its genuine S line! Its just its one of the in between models made in MY06 before the sporty bumpers were added for MY07

Simply
MY04 Split grille no kit
MY05 Split grille No kit
MY06 Big single grille adopted so front matched the recently launched Sportback, No kit
MY07 Big grille and the full bodykit
MY08 Big grille and the full bodykit
MY09 onwards - Full facelift front end with LED lights

However early MY04 and MY05 cars had S line as an optional package, not a model in its owne right so thats why they are registered as Sports in the DVLA

Dont forget the MY comes out in the previous Aug/Sept so its possible for example to have a MY05 cars on 54/05/55 registrations

Is it just me or does Dandle have serious spec knowledge! Think the half leather is a good trim (the non alcantara S-Line one mentioned above) it's like codura and when I ran an S-line with that trim stinkin loved it! Hard wearing and looking good plus you still get the touch of leather on the ouside and HFS aren't necessay either, win win...

Yaseen if you're buying this you could always fit a later S-line bumper to it and it would look nicer still. Good luck.

The steering wheel also changed around 2006 and i think the stereo did as well to a double din size?

Agreed, I thought I wanted full leather, but wasn't disappointed at all when I saw mine, it's not your average cloth!

Staz
Not your fault mate...I think he thought that twin grill was std ....and 8p2 single grill was s-line of the same model, tha'ts all ...

I have an S Line that comes up as Sport, Audi and DVLA said they only need to know the actual car mechanical modifications and not cosmetic. The only differences between S line and Sport are (or were in 2006) cosmetic, so its not neccessarily incorrect if yours comes up as Sport.

If that's an Sline model then where is the rear boot spoiler? Not convinced myself, looks more like a tweaked sport if you ask me..

I recon the giveaway would be.....my S-line has no boot spoiler but what it does have is a extra Audi tire pressure sticker on the hinge of the petrol cap for 18" wheels. I cant see anybody adding that with a casual wheel size change.
Also dont forget your service book and car has a sticker with all the factory extras on it.

Looks to me to be sitting like an S-line and to be honest if you added all the s-line bits...then its an s-line anyway. Only suspect part of that advert is the 34+ MPG. bit :lmfao:
