made a a pleasant discovery while swapping some wheels over onto my project 'fixer upper'
its fitted with koni coilovers!:)

threads are a bit rusty but hopefully will clean up ok, anyone done this or recommend a good penetrating oil? and where do you buy C spanner?

could tell it had neen lowered and it rode well but thought it had some cheap springs

anyway i know therell fit my avant on the front but are saloon and avant rears the same?

Assuming 2wd v 2wd then yes. The only difference comes with 2wd to quatty mate.

I have found that releasing oil, a vice and a hot air gun work wonders

Theres no saloon/avant differences, however...

Theres a difference pre/post facelift, and i'm pretty sure they arent interchangeable.

I've never seen them side by side though, so would be interesting to see if they can be swapped.

Well, i have had a look on Koni's web site and they list a differnt part number for the rear shocks pre and post facelift. It does not however list the difference.

If you have an old shock from a facelift kicking around you could compare to the coilies

cheers fellas
hoping to swap oe rear facelift avant susp. to pre facelift saloon, if the mounting points for top mounts are the same the complete struts should swap over? any way will find out tommorrow

didnt get very far only removed one front one on both cars as i found hub had a few cross threads so i had to swap complete carrier but struggled with the pinch bolt as usual

the mounting points on the shells are different, and the top mounts are different too.

No idea if the facelift parts will swap over though, i've found some pics of the dampers and there are differences. You might find the pre-face top mount parts will go onto the facelift dampers though.

all swapped over and coilovers removed

complete struts do fit with no issues, difference is alloy top mounts which are thicker than the earlier metal ones
the mounting holes are exactly the same so they just bolt on in the same way

NIce one mate, nice to know.!

You still going to break that Avant?

I think i need a rack, i changed the tierod and still have a horrible knock on the drivers side, GGGGRRRRRRR

Ah thats good to know, but i've just picked up a pair of new genuine Audi sport shocks for the early type, so they should jsut go streight on.

Had wondered about this, alot of coilovers ive been looking at list B5 as 94 to 01 but nothing mentioned about facelift.

so OE Facelift suspension fits on pre-Facelift?

Presumably the Sport suspension is the same? (i have a Avant Sport which needs a new rear pair, have sourced some Facelift ones, need to know if they will fit)

if you get the complete struts then they will fit, ask for the two top bolts aswell if you can as the facelift ones where slightly longer with them going into an alloy mount instead of a steel nut

mark, not much left on avant but rack seems ok no leaks but offside ball joint rubber is split
will hopefully get last of bits off next week

nice one cheers :icon_thumright:

what happened to the coileys you took off it?

not sure yet, might try them on my avant or flog them they'll need alot of work to free them up
wasnt leaving them on a £300 car though
