As the title says I got 187 miles on £30.00 of fuel I was just wanting to know if this was good???
:s3addict:

What fuel?
What car?
WHat price per litre?
Combined urban?

Maybe you can help me, I've got this bit of string and I want to know how long it is :moa:

Best i've had recently was about 430 miles to a full brimmed tank.

Had some majpr bills to pay since xmas so silly driving was out the window for a month or so

I have a 2003 S3 and it waas the normal shell stuff and it cost 108 per litre and it was moterway and town driving if this helps.

Thats pretty good then, although the only way to really make sure you only used £30 is to brim it right to the top of the pipe, do say 50 miles and then brim it again, that way you know exactly what 50 miles costs you (either that or you could get the calculater out lol)

Yeah I drove pretty carefully and topped it up a mile after the fuel light came on not bad for the performance you get from the car!!!

To be honest, the performance you can get out of diesels now days far outweighs the s3. The most i've ever managed combined is 28mpg which imo is pretty poor for how slow they are

Yeah the new a5 quattro diesel is like 5.6 0-60 i think but its a 3 litre engine sounds good but would probably use the same fuel as an s3 i THINK!!!

you love that s3 of yours dont you mike, such a little ray of sunshine :)

Lol its just cost me £3000, but i appreciate it for what it is, its a lovely comfy ride, very well specced and holds its money well and looks nice, plus i don;t feel like a bellend everytime I go anywhere remotely outside the car scene (as per the skyline lol)

It isn't however quick, it doesn't handle well, its not good on fuel, but I do like the car

Cheerz for the calculation hate numbers looks like not to bad fuel consumption i think the fuel is a good price here lol!!!

:) yeah I know, it just tickled me to see another stab in the side of your poor S3

That sounds very good I'd struggle to get that driving normally. Filled up £50 of normal Sainsburys 95 RON and got 250 miles out of out mine on the M1 averaging about 80mph last weekend....

Not as deep as the stab its made to my wallet recently, i'm just getting my own back lol.

And I know this is an S3 forum, I just prefer to be a little more realistic on the cars abilities and perhaps flaws - but i'm def not a hater, i'm just glad its not a TT lol

Yeah, well, owning a skyline I can only guess where your coming from.

Me on the other hand, coming from a Mk3 1.6 Golf CL and a 1.8T (150) A3 my S3 is much loved, granted, its expensive, especially as Im inept with a spanner :)

its true, you do look like a nob in a skyline.

I dont think the S3 is as bad as your making out, just got to think how much better they are than most other cars on the road. Iv been driving a van the last year so the S3 is looooovely

Lol. Boys. 1.2 Clio. Think I win this "my car was more underpowered than youuuuuuuuuuurs" ;)

there you go mike, dont compare it to your skiyline, compare it to a van...

my 1.6 golf was more underpowered than yours when I blew the head gasket, so there! lol

Mike I would actually cry if that happened to me did u take the car to audi or a specialist for almost half the price!!!

thats good on £30....... i spend that a week and vpower and it gets me 150 miles if im lucky, bypass urban driving daily

i can do 230m on the Motorway for £30... doing "motorway speeds" ;) Mine seems to be more economical after the turbo and remap.... soon as i get on B roads its like i have been shot in the fuel tank though :(

the s3's really dont like short journeys, i knew my mpg was pretty poor but what really opened my eyes was a blast out last weekend
full tank doing my normal weekly journey (3 miles to and from work every day) will get me 220 miles, pretty poo!!
went for a blast last weekend done 120 miles on quarter of a tank, theoretically would have returned 400 miles + to a full tank

bearing in mind that when i went for a blast it was a mixture of being caught behind traffic and a few 30/40/50mph speed limits and giving it some welly down the b roads, overtaking etc and my journeys to work are 30 mph all the way and the car doesnt have chance to warm up properly

i also went to jabbasport before xmas, that was a 230 mile round trip, 90% of it m'way cruising at 80mph all the way, a little bit of blasting it around whilst up there doing some logs etc and i done this on half a tank

all this with bigger turbo, bigger injectors etc etc
the s3 can be a very economical car considering its weight, all depends on your driving style, route, length etc

WOW! I can't get anywhere near that! (remapped also) £50 gets me 250 miles on the motorway - hmm hope i haven't got something wrong with my car?! Although everythings checked out ok and she's just been serviced!

yup ive never been anywhere near 230 miles for £30....recently anyways motorway or not!!

Phew thought I had a serious problem their! Although I can't work out is it more economical driving o cruising just just under 3k rpm on motorway just under boost... or using a tad of boost maybe 3200 rpm? I usually cruise at about 3k if I'm trying to save fuel..

dunno mate, thats sounds like a 56mph MPG :)

I dont drive economically on the motorway though, always using the boost as i love the push back at high speeds :)

I disagree with the slow comments about the s3! Got to remember it's a hot hatch not a saloon like skyline or scooby! It is a pretty quick car when you consider other hatches of the time, even now with a remap it'll beat most modern hot hatches at least in a straight line! As for mpg I brimmed mine Monday set me back about 65 quid, I have just hit the red with 440 miles and avg of 34.8 mpg! Quite pleased really :)

I think you will do 30Mpg in town and 45mpg on motorway from a 3.0L tdi engine ! Consider that the engine weighs a lot more than the s3 pot and performance isnt shabby either, i reckon thats a pretty decent consumption.
