Some B*****D thought he would smash my door mirror whilst it was parked.
This is passenger side and came back to find the glass section hanging down by 2 wires, the main unit twisted fully forward with the outer color coded body not on the frame (?).
I have no idea what parts make up the unit so need advice here.
The color coded body is craked BUT i think it will stay in place. The glass is broken but the back plate looks intact.I pused it back in place and the mirror seems to fold ok and the glass still moves by the door switch. Can anyone answer.

Does the glass come with the backplate or can you buy seperate.
Does the color coded body come seperate painted or plain.
Is there clips on the main frame that are liable to be broken? could not see any but if they were snapped of i would not know.
Any tips or photos for replace ment would be good please.

According to Vagcat you can pretty much buy any component of the mirror. I imagine you would buy a plain back and need to colour code it - ebay's probably the place for that. The glass is easy enough to get hold of, just make sure you get a heated mirror if you have them.

I have glass for both sides if you are interested (heated), if you are interested, drop me a PM :)

Cheers,
Chris

this gives you a good excuse to buy some chrome ones :)

When replacing the glass+backplate,is it just a case of pushing the glass in place.Does it click when seated etc.Not sure what the long molded arm needs to do?

yes just push the glass on it should click but some times they dont make a sound. also put a soft cloth on it and not just your fingers
as it may crack and cut you if you push to hard

I have no idea if my mirrors are heated. All i see was 2 connectors on the glass backplate.
Is there a switch in the car for heated mirrors? Not something i have seen or noticed working?
Want to get the right glass.

If you can see the wires then you will have heated mirrors, they come on with the heated rear screen if it's below (I think) 5 deg C. Easiest way when they're on is to see if they're hot.
