Hello, I wanted to ask if anyone had any experience with wheel spacers on the 8L S3.

I want to space the standard 17" Avus alloys outwards until they are as close to level with the top of the wheel-arch.

Do you think there's a danger of the tire scrubbing the arch if I fit 60mm spacers when I'm running factory fit shocks and springs?

Thanks, any advice would be really appreciated.

Dan.

60mm  are you mad?? Thats going to put a lot of strain on your bearings, the most anyone else has done is 20mm like myself and it looks awesome and you don't get any rubbing. You will most likely get rubbing with 60mm spacers on.

Haha, is that really mad idea? I see.

To be fair, it was a complete estimate by me. I had it in my mind that each wheel being brought forward by 3cm would only achieve a subtle visual change to the stance. So you think 10mm per side would change the look of the car then?

They are talking per side 888888888.
I've got 10mm (per side) fronts and 15mm (per side) rears.

When you buy them most places will give the width per side. You should get some that are 'hubcentric'.

Got mine from PW Motorsport (site sponsors) for around £100 including bolts...

When you first said 60mm, did you mean 30mm each side, 60mm in total?
I have 20mm on each wheel and I wouldn't advise to go any further really and it is visibly noticeable.

Right, thanks for clearing that up for me
mate.

So do you think 20mm each side, front and rear is going to see me scrubbing the arches?

No you'll be fine with 20mm each side front n rear as I've got 30mm lowering kit with 18inch wheels and I haven't had a problem even with a full car.

The S3 has a wider track as standard at the front so I personally think it looks better if you go for around 10mm more at the rear to even it out.

hmmm, £100 for spacers and bolts....im extremely tempted and i dont spend money easily , especially on stuff like this

Spacers had a huge effect on the handling and looks of my old Clio. I think they will be on the list once the new wheels arrive. Hubcentrics are a must, just to re-itterate that.

I got a set of brand new anodised 15mm spacers and a set of 10mm spacers off ebay at the weekend for £35 without bolts and then £45 for a set of bolts from Badger Bill :)

Putting them on this weekend.

As did I, well only rears actually. Im assuming we got them from the same guy? He is selling more now. I havent sourced bolts yet, I'll only need rears so Im hoping to pay no more than £20-25. I cant wait to get them on the car.

Yeah there was some company flogging a load of old stock, all of the auctions started at 99p with no reserve. Mine turned up yesterday, nice quality spacers.

Bargain hunters :)

good find mate!!

is that including locking nuts?

I think that price will be for just spacers lad.

Out of interest, Westle, are you using extended bolts with the 15mm spacers, or bolting the spacer to the hub, then the wheel to the spacer with the original bolts?

£35 was just for all four spacers. I bought longer bolts from Bill for £45. Bill has cut sown the front ones for me because apparently they will rub on the ABS hub. I dont have locking nuts as they were about another £40 for a decent set. If someone nicks my standard 17" Avus I'll just buy some 18" ones :)

Cheers JD.... he did point out the nut cost ;) also thanks for the 'lad' compliment, doesnt happen very often these days and makes me feel 20 again :)

Westle, top man.....this was the stumbling block before for me, the locking nuts - dont want anyone stealing my genuine none refurb RSTT's ;)
