As I was having my shocks replaced on Sat my dad lent me his car on Sat...

He has a MK4 Golf TDI (PD100 custom mapped to 150bho @ Jabba and boy does it go, it's got no boost lag!)

Anywhere the point is he gave to me it on Empty tank, it was literally asking to be filled up on the DIS. So I stuck £20 of Diesel in it and it filled it up from the red to half way!!! Couldn't believe it?! It takes at least £27 on mine from empty to get it half way if not more, and Diesels cheaper then petrol! I'm talking the normal 97 RON stuff as well not the expensive 99 stuff!

Are our S3 fuel tanks bigger than the golfs then??????

I'm not sure, but I'm driving my A3 at the moment whilst the S3 is being resuilt and I thought the same thing.

£20 fills the tank up more in the A3 than the S3.

I would assume it's a shape difference rather than a size thing - the quattro system takes up a fair whack of room at the back.

it makes sense really.... S3 does less to gallon and so requires a bigger tank :)

got a feeling the s3 has a 50 litre tank, where as the a3 has a 40 litre tank, could be wrong though?

on a kinda related note, i went for a drive yesterday with a few mates to the forest of dean and back, from topping up with fuel, driving there and back (spirited) was a total of 120 miles and i used bang on 1/4 of a tank!!

now when i use the car during the week for work, all im doing is a short journey there and back, roughly 3 miles each way, car barely gets chance to warm up etc and i get 220 miles to a full tank at best, it stunned me at how bad the mpg is on these short journeys, the s3 actually prefers being pushed hard on a long journey than it does taking it steady on short journeys

jus food for thought :)

I like to give mine a bit of a panning whenever possible really to be honest. If I wanted to drive slow I would of bought a 1.6 A3 with all the options! lol

Where abouts in the forest did you go dude?

thats all too true mate, dont buy a quick car and not use it, may aswell have saved yourself some money and got a metro :)

errrrr, cant remember the name of it but the one with the big wooden climbing wall, and the visitors centre etc

we got there, found out it was really muddy, stood around chatting, checking out the sparse amount of poon that was there then went back, great day out lol

awesome drive though, shame about other road users ruining it for us haha

Did you just tell me you went looking for poon in the Forest Of Dean?

WHY!?!?

Thats like looking for WMDs in Iraq.

Any that are even remotely fit have webbed feet anyway.... p*ssing in the wind mate!

Should of gone to Wales. Lots of poon there.... Especially in Cardiff... :)

lmao no of course not, but of course being lads it doesnt matter where we go we look for poon, its natural man!!

and actually there was one or two tasty morsels knocking around so :moa:

webbed feet huh? didnt know that but im not put off, is that wrong?

So i'm not going mad then, my dads MK4 Golf has a smaller tank???

The S3 has a 60 litre tank, the golf is either the same or 50 litre

The S3 has a 62L tank and a normal A3 55L.
It's because it's a quattro. An A3 quattro has also a 62L tank.

Why does it being a Quattro make it need a bigger tank out of interest?

you would think if anything the tank would be smaller due to all the rear diff setup
