This morning the post rocked up and the doorbell rang.

A smallish parcel I wasn't expecting arrived from Audi UK. Once I'd run an electrical tester over it to ensure they hadn't posted me a bomb (after reading some of my threads!), I opened it to reveal this:

Audi%20Auto%20Union%204Gb%20USB%20.jpg

A 4Gb Streamliner USB memory stick (usually worth £40 RRP).

Enclosed was a note from Dawn Cox, Audi UK Head of Customer Services thanking me for my continued loyalty as an Audi Customer. I've never spoken to Audi customer services (other than to get as settlement figure when I was thinking of selling the car last year), so don't really know what prompted them to send it to me?

As many of you know I have some mixed opinion about various components of the UK Audi outfit service-wise, so for once to be pleasantly surprised was a very welcome change. I do have a letter from Audi sat in my drawer which I received earlier in the week about purchasing an warranty plan, so I'm hoping that it isn't a device to twist my arm into purchasing it!!!

Is this common practice to receive this sort of thing, as I've never heard anyone else mention it.

It's lovely to be saying something genuinely positive about Audi rather than something tainted with a veneer of disappointment; a very nice touch.

Yeah, Kontraband got one sent too.

Where's mine then??

Does it have anything on it? Apparently, during Audi's 100th Birthday celebrations, these were sent out from the press office with Audi archive images on.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to this, other than what was said in your letter. Whilst chatting to a friend at Audi last week they were bemused and had no idea why they were being issued. So fair play special one (well you and kontra :) ), now, get it on Ebay. ;)

No, plain naked contentwise.

I'm not going to use it, it's just going to get added to the pile of motor/sport related memorabilia which is accumulating in my home office.

Funnily enough (and I didn't know this was an option), my final payment comes in August 2010 (42 months after the start of the agreement in March 2007). I have spoken to someone at Volkswagen Finance who said they would be happy to refinance the bubble payment for the car based around monthly payments (rather than paying off the bubble of £13k in a lump sum) if it was more convenient. Not sure which option I will take, but always assumed it was bubble or nothing. Interest rates would be bank comparable too. It keeps getting better and better.

A recent conversation at Audi UK:

Audi UK head office worker: 'Ere boss, there are some geezers who keep on slagging off our service, they're even doing it on the internet. What do you reckon, sue them???

Audi UK top-dog: Nah, turn their heads by sending each of them one of those USB sticks that are cluttering up reception. That'll kill two birds with one stone.

If I was critical, there is a slight marking in the metal, so I wonder whether these are 'seconds' as at £40 odd quid you couldn't expect a customer to pay that kind of money for imperfection!

Maybe my Jedi thread abuse has been strong and they are trying to buy me off and keep me quiet :)

lol quality, just maybe.

As a quick side and not a patch on your good fortune Obi Wan :) ...a couple of years ago Audi sent me a 'silver' plated nut in a ring case; bizarre considering I hadn't even owned an Audi by then. Maybe they were just trying to get me away from BMW?! Effective subliminal messaging though. :(

Must have had a surplus of unfitted nuts that year (probably from A3 sunroof fitting kit  - another USB stick in the bag for me!).

To go through the trouble of silver plating it and ring boxing it.... A bizarre trinket, but interesting approach. Had you ever submitted your details at an Audi main dealer??

Yeah I took an S3 out when they were released, so that'll explain it.

You are going to be racking those badboys up for sure...I know that certain Audi stuff do trawl these sites and I just wonder if there might be something in that. :readit:

P.S. I think Audi are sh*t too...(please see profile for email details).

l got a microfibre cloth and a metal box for putting wax in last year.

Wow, Warren gets a fancy USB, and I just get dirty looks everytime I walk in!

ditto, every time i go anywhere near an s3, and thats with my car gleaming an clean when i go in, agest bastids!

if you got them for moaning about Audi's i would have a lorry load of these things......and an RS4

Just as a test, anyone who has their car on Volkswagen Finance, and is about to come out of warranty, call them up and request an extended warranty quote, might be the trigger thinking back on this. No need to take it, I haven't, and now I have a lovely 4gb USB stick. Worth a try.

:yahoo:Be good to store a list of complaints on for them, would love to see there faces when someone rolled in to there reception and told there service manager to get them sorted as you chucked it across there desk
