That will be the old 058 block mate... 06A is 2000+

Welly I would get the same you have got. I dont think they will be the same. I maybe wrong but it the compression ratios will be different so have different size volumes.

This is for a 93k 99 S3. He wants £800 for the whole engine which I take it comes with the turbo. Worth asking what engine code it is.
Just had a quick look on ETKA and part numbers for APY/BAM/AMK etc blocks are the same
06A block...
Checked the A4 (2001) too and shows the block part number to start with 06B
Essentially I think you can get away with using the block from almost any FWD VAG based car (Ibiza, Leon, Golf, Polo, A3, TT) but you may have use your pistons and crank as they will be forged... the 1.8t list thingy in the stickies should give you an idea on engine codes you can use...
<tuffty/>
AGU is the same part number but has a different suffix letter 06A 103 101 H.... AMK/BAM/APY have a J suffix
I think all this relates to is the block and pistons combo listed under ETKA as they don't list the block on its own...
Block will be the same...
<tuffty/>
Inline blocks are the same I think.... just need to work out if yours is an 058 or 06A
<tuffty/>
nope
external water pumps
Welly, stop beating around the bush and just drop this in:

He cannot use his original block due to damage on the skirting Andrew
OK then peoples.... I have a cunning plan. A plan so cunning you could pin a tail on it and call it a weasel...
So here goes.
Scratch buying a BAM engine for a grand.
New plan is to buy an AGU engine for £500 with 61K on her. Save myself the money for new forged pistons. When it arrives, strip AGU engine pretty much completely. Remove head, and all ancillaries, remove pistons and rods. Strip to just block and crank.
Sell unneeded bits of AGU, such as big port head and inlet mani.... and make as much cash as possible.
Remove APY block from the S3. Strip pistons out.
Reassemble AGU block with forged rods and S3 pistons, using the AGU crank is possible as it's still forged.
Refit 'AGY' into S3. Fire up and be happy. Maybe.
Sounds complicated, and you're banking on selling all the bits to make some cash. Is a loan an option so you can get all the bots in one go and pay it off month by month?
Reading the thread i thaught i'd give my 2p
I suspect that the headgasket has blown between an oilway and the cylinder. On the intake stroke you've got >5bar of oil pressure shoving oil into the cylinder, and when the piston comes back up, you hydrolock it and hence bend the conrod. You'll probably find a ton of oil has made its way out thru the exhaust valves and into the turbo/cat, so you may well find the cat itself is dead.
Did you actually inspect the headgasket on cylinder 3 when you pulled the head off?
sounds like stan the man has a plan regarding his van!!!
why wouldnt you use the head off the donor engine, purely because you have one that you know is like new?
o also £500 for 61k agu, bargain or bargain? is she a runner? if you do go down this route i may be in the market to have afew bits off you, possibly!!
Welly get your brother to sell his M3 and give you some cash lol...!!!!
If you've got spare dosh aren't you tempted to go all out and go BT. With the engine out its got to be tempting!!!! Unlucky on the damage but fair play for the hard work. Hope everything works out for you.
LOL. I'd like to have a tenner lying round!!!
