ok i have a fault code of 00561 mixture adaption
i looked on the vag website but was wondering this has only come up after i have replaced my thermostat, is it related? i have also put a new air intake in?

also ( this is a bit confusing so i will try and describe) behind the radiator ( engine bay side) onthe top left hand side there is a metal cylinder with a blank metal pipe runing up. it has a hefty lead running into it and one out the bottom of it? what is this? is it colant or powersteering related as it is leaking!!

i swear my car lasts a week with NO faults then small ones come back again! why am i such a perfectionist!

Not 100% sure but i think the pipe in the pic is something to do with the aircon.

oh right! well its leaking everywhere ! only once the car has been out for a drive though! sillicone sealer it? its not vast ammounts of leak

how do you mean leaking?
It looks like the high preassure a/c top up port, so should only contain gas.
Its not uncommon to build up condensation on the pipes though.

refrigerant leak by the sounds... specialist tools etc required for that...

As for your 00561 fault, sounds like an air leak... a big one... block 032 of vagcom whilst idling will give you the adaption values... should be close to 0% but there is +/- 25% adjustment... first one is short term/idle adjustment, second is long term/part throttle... post up the values... one of them will be high I suspect if its thrown a fault like that..

Check all pipes under the inlet mani as this is where they normally go and the FPR pipe...

i only have a maxi scan so cant pull up stuff liked that! i will have a look around tomorrw, what is a fpr pipe? also is it urgent fix?

Yeap thats one of the 2 aircon pipes used to remove/refill the gas, if thats leaking then you'll either need a new valve on the end or a complete new pipe down to where that pipe connects to, get done asap & dont use your aircon until done, not good but shouldnt be too bad a job to replace, but of course have to empty the system 1st, dont mess with it if leaking.

Shouldnt leak an orangy liquid.
Unless someone has added a tracer dye in with the refirigerant.

FPR = Fuel Pressure Regulator... It the round bit on the right hand side (as you look at it) and on the end of the fuel injector rail... has a pipe attached to it... I would look at getting it done sooner than later as it would effect fuelling under boost and has the potential to make the mixture lean if not working right...

All airleaks should really be looked at with a degree of urgency really... its bad enough that its potentially the cause of your fault code which again is a pretty serious one... the ECU is adding fuel as its seeing a mixture thats too lean (extra air from the leaks)... its now got to the point of the maximum amount of adjustment it can make and can't add any more fuel which will mean that the mixture will potentially be very lean.... this is very bad...

Check the PCV hoses under the inlet mani too... these are classic weak points... they are a little awkward to get too but look on the underside of the pipes as this is where oil settles and softens the pipes... there is an 'L' shaped pipe that comes out of the bottom of the mani too, this splits on the bend too...

ok i replaced the tube connecting the fpr (the one that comes off the top to the injectors)
also found a split ( about an inch) in the pipe that starts by the dipstick holder and end on the right of the block. cost me 30quid for both, reset the fault codes so ill see if it comes back
