High Beam Assistance & vagcom on 8P anyone?

Guys working on a mod atm, has anyone got a fairly newish 8P with High Beam Assistance on there rear of mirror facing the windscreen, that automatically dims the raised beam to the normal beam on detection of bright lights upfront.

I would like to get some logs from vcds for this so can check what else is required, as I have upgraded my can gateway to support which was one part, mirror on order, but have feeling it runs inconjunction with a certain level of the central electrics board in 09.

So any facelifts with this feature willing to provide the info?

That could be very handy mate, thanks for that as shows me module 20 is the HBA & has a coding value so when mirror is here & connected I'll see what it does, think its related to that sprung loaded headlight stalk I bought which may or may not be an issue, we'll see mate, thanks again

I believe its only an option on the 2010 model A3/S3. Its got a light sensor at the mirror base that senses the light pointed towards the car.

Yeap its an option known as 8N7 in the brochure, as Ewan says, light sensor fitted into the mirror fixing facing oncoming traffic, relies on other parts fitted aswell though, like gateway to support amongst others.

I'm awaiting confirmation of wire prices from audi as they seem to have them showing at £7 a wire which is obscene knowing wires I've bought, I think its per bag of 5 but they're adamant its per, also plug awaiting delivery as its an 8 pin not the usual 6 pin, but will have more info soon.

When i specced my A3 i nearly ordered this, but after the A4 Allroad courtesy car i had that was fitted highbeam assist i didnt sec it as it was random at best.

Most of the time it wouldnt let me activate it, i guess it was sensing to much light ( even from streetlights) and then when i could get it to work it would switch off at the slightest glimmer of light... the road to my house has a few properties with outside lights which triggered the system

The system just used the forward push on the lighting stalk... and when activated (IIRC) there was a green headlight symbol with a little A in it in the instrument cluster. I didnt try to disable the system sorry... just didnt use it.

No mate thats not it, thats just the auto lights activation of the dipped beam, its actually called High Beam Assistant thats in brochure as 8N7

You probably didn't miss it kkp, it's a realitively new option so you man not have even had the choice. Nigel, have you see you the sensor for this system, if it's the one I saw on the Allroad it looks like a little camera in a pod just above the mirror. I thought it might have been for the adaptive cruise...

My S3 was ordered back in May\June 2009 so you could be right. Has anyone got pictures of the sensor etc? I would like to see what this option looks like.

Yeah I have one of the mirrors in hand mate, but they sent me the B8 version, so swapping out for 8P, also adaptive cruise would be with some form of what radar or the like you would think, camera wouldnt help I shouldnt think anyway.

New mirror should be with me by Mon/Tues next week, car was at paint anyway so pointless any sooner & got some small jobs to complete on it 1st before tackling technical *****.

Anyway I have a new central electrics board 09 that now goes from the K to a P, must have had errors on some K's to warrant a new one as K was obsolete on new 8P's, so mines going back under a fault of comms errors, see if thats added anything new aswell.
