i went froom an s2000 to the s3, love the s3 much more though, but a give the s2000 its dues it was fun but very twtichy lol rubbish in the wet and very scary!! ave still got a hardtop and private plate for sale if u know any1 interested

tvr no thanks, that s2k looks stunning.

i either do allot of work to my audi, and buy a car to project/track. or go for a nice new car

just looked at a 350z? and a clio 197 f1

350z are cool, clio197 is supposed to be a hell of a drivers machine, but not a good "summer" car :)

how about wankle power.... rx8?? :) civic typeR? alot of choice of good cars for £10k!!

197 steers great with no real trade off in ride, stops well too. Power wise though it feels significantly down on an S3 in general use because it needs the revs well up, equally it doesn't have much traction under power once wet. Having said that I took mine to North Wales last summer and it was fantastic fun on the roads up there probably in part because it is all about the corners than the outright acceleration or speed, and I doubt when driven at 10/10ths many cars would be much quicker once it gets a bit bumpy and windy (uk b road style). Would definitively recommend one if you are after a fun drive. They are dirt cheap for what they are, but my 10 year old S3 is still a nicer place to be than the 3 year old 197 on a longer journeys due to the leather Recaros, generally more quality environment and the gearing (although later 197s have a longer 6th which supposedly reduces motorway noise - which to be fair isn't too much worse than the S3).

He said convertible though...

My choice would be E46 M3 but also not mentioned above...
330ci
Merc SLK
Mini Cooper S
Jag XK

looked at mini JCW but again its not much of a summer fun car,

m3 i couldnt get a nice one for 10k :(

IMO you would have to be stupid to spend 10K on a newer car if its for "summer fun", if I had 10K I'd find myself an RS2 or a mental spec S2.

But thats just me :p

In fact ive just had a better idea, sell the a3 buy a S3 and with the change get yourself 2 wheeled flying machine, honest it will be the best fun u can have this summer!!

not after anything with over 60k miles hate high miles in a car, i have test driven a elise, clutch was heavy and i couldnt even fit a rucksack in the boot :(

ok it will be for the summer but going to go to car shows for the weekend too

bmw is looking promising not the m3 though to expensive

Nothing over 60k, thats limiting your options if you want a fun (assume fast) summer car. Does it need to be a drop top? How old? You could get yourself a t bar 300zx twin turbo manual for next to nothing, roof out rear wheel drive no driving aids fun. E36 m3 convertible, loads of these about for about half your budget, and you wont lose much money on an older car.

Now you've gone and moved the goal posts! 10k on a decent summer car but with less than 60k miles. Think you'll be looking at something like an MR2 or MX5 then!! Good fun but not that fast!

You can get a decent M3 for 10k (i sold mine for less than that) but i doubt you'll get one with less than 80k on it! But they are decent engines (normally!) and you won't be adding many more miles. Expensive to run though!

ok guys i am going to test drive a 04 plate impreza WRX on sunday, will let you know and under buget

Hmm, don't like the first one. Very low spec; no sat nav, 18's (which look crap) and its a pre facelift (no LED rear lights), also convertibles have no side bolster adjustment on the seats. Only thing going for it is it has the Harmon Kardon sound upgrade!

2nd one is more like it but looks like its been lowered and the drivers seat is worn for a 60k miler! SMG is really good. Semi auto with paddle shift and adjustable shift speed. No perfect but good fun.

you want at least a sti with full prodrive pack or a jap spec sti, english wrx will be tame.
