Hey Guys and Gals
Comtemplating a major step up in the automotive world and purchasing a proper sports car (currently own an Rs6). There are many arguments between the Porsche and the Nissan Gt-r but how does the car compare with the R8? Both are pretty much the best 4wd sports cars out there and i know the R8 is significantly lighter but which ones the "Daddy"?:haudrauf:

Horses for courses. No doubting the GTR is the more capable car but the R8 is simply stunning and is no bad pony by all accounts!

Look at the running costs.... I know coming from the Skyline myself ( not an R35) that the cost are pretty horrendous but I dont know how they compare to the R8... As said the R35 is probably the most capable car on the market for the money....

I have a close friend who has a new R8 (a V8) he is a very experienced driver. Having competed in single seaters, international Rallies, has owned Porches, an RS2, RS4 etc etc. He has driven both the R8 V8 and V10 round Silverstone he says that his R8 is the best car he has ever driven, I must say its very impressive to be driven in. The quality of build is superb, I do know of one guy with a two month old GTR that is currently being fitted with a new gearbox, Nissan not being too helpful either. So I would suggest go for the R8, I know I would.

does the difference between the v8 and the v10 warrent the increased price? 1 Liter equals an extra 100 bhp?!? It seems a very usable car and am test driving the v8 soon so will report back!

I don't find the R8 all that fabulous tbh, but even if it was made of dogs**t and had a 9v battery for an engine, I'd still rather have one over a GTR.

The gearboxes go bang and cost 11k...and if you lightly tap the front of one it explodes like a gold-plated clown's car, and costs another 11k to put it all back together.

Very funny, Nissan! :whip:

I dunno 'bout that :lmfao: but I'd agree an R8 is a thousand times more appealing as an ownership prospect than the Datsun!

After all the headlines have faded away...you know "GTR better/faster/cheaper than a 911 Turbo" you're left with, admittedly a very fast and capable car, but one that explodes into a trillion tiny but very expensive shards if you're a little bit unkind to it.

So, rubbish then. By the time you've fixed it a couple of times (11 grand for bonnet hinges, 11 for a gearbox, 700 quid for indicator bulbs probably, wouldn't surprise me if the indicators had their own ECU which you had to replace every time a bulb blew) you'd have been financially better off in an R8/911/AMG/M-car/Audi RS/anything German!

I'm not saying the Japanese can't make a strong and reliable car, but the GTR isn't it! If they wanted people not to drive it and just gently polish it (don't press too hard on the front bumper or it's bang!! 11000 pounds) then they should have made it nicer to look at :drag:

LOOOOOOOL dont tell me the 11 grand bonnet hinges thing has spread to here as well..Its all over the net. GTR running costs are an arm and a leg. Im a big GTR fan but R8 is classy car and less boy racy...For the money you pay GTR R35 is a more capable car performance wise. They;ve compared both cars on youtube they took them to the financial district and the men in suits preferred the R8 i think.

GTR has a transmission costing £20,000 pounds and a launch control that voids your warrantly. You got expensive parts all over the shop. And you got shards of body parts costing an arm and a leg to replace should you lose one doing 0-60 and end up blowing up hollywood style with hinges flying off the bonnet and allen screws dropping out your gearbox.

But hey as big a GTR fan I am I think R8 is very appealing car. Rare car too. I think that would get lots of looks but a GTR although pricey is more rare and looks good not as good as an R8 in my opinion.

the question is which one do you prefer? R8 or GTR R35? one is cheaper but cost more to repair and maintain. The other looks better and seems more reliable but also cost to run.

My bro has a 130i M sport I think hes content with that LOL

I've had a few ricers over the years and they do offer great value for money in general, but I can't say I have any personal experience with the new GTR (i've never owned any GTRs actually), but as a whole as much as they are good cheap racers, Jap cars do lack a bit of something, i'm tempted to say "soul" but I know how cheesey that sounds, but it's kind of true. Looking at the GTR just doesn't excite me, and i'd be worried that after the initial wow of the gadgets and performance, i'd be left with a slightly empty feeling when you dont feel attached to a car, you just see it as a...well.....a car.

German cars seem to have that word i mentioned above in bags, and I really like the look of the R8, but, and this is what I really think lets the car down, the interior is good because it's like all Audis, but then thats also the problem, if i'd spent the best part of £100k on a car, i'd want it to be a little bit more special than an A5/A4 etc inside, yes it has subtle differences, but it's hardly got wow factor..

If I can draw a comparison, I once had a Nissan 200sx with mods a plenty and more rear wheel fun on tap that is healthy, it was also reliable and actually quite comfortable to drive, but i was never really that attached to it even though on the face of it everything was pefect, compare that to an old battered A4 2.6 Avant I had named "Old Greg" that really was an old work horse, and I very nearly shed a tear when he was condemmed, bizzarre really.

Of course, saying all this, i'd take either the R8 or GTR if they were offered on a plate with out too much fuss!!

with out being a snob you would be driving a fifty grand Nissan i would choose an R8 anyday over a GTR ive heard of problems with the gearbox also check this out http://www.ehow.com/way_5456130_nissan-gtr-transmission-problems.html besides give it a few years and the price of a nissan will drop when more grey imports come into the country. You cant beat audi built quaility and the V8 noise of the R8 on full throttle.

I would have either, but being a skyline driver myself I would prefer the GTR over the V8 R8 due to rarity in my area.... If it was the V10 R8 things for me maybe a little different.

launch control that voids your warrantly.
Ahhh the internet rumour mill, once again wrong i'm afraid, that articular rumour started even before they had been released over here.

Someones earlier comment was along the lines of "who's pay £50k to drive a datsun", to that note my reply would be "who'd pay £100k to drive an Audi"

I've got a 1996 R33 GTR (as well as my S3, so i am impartial) and compared to my previous car to the GTR, which was an Escort cossie (yes im from essex, no i haven't got a medalion and yes i have a small penis etc etc) which was only a few years older than the skyline, the differences in drivability and performance and feel were amazing. The escort was over hyped and despite me spending a fortune making it quicker (and keeping it running) it wasn't a patch on the skyline. The skyline was years ahead of the competition and still is, its playing up amounsgt he big boys and in most places does better than they do. When i first got in my 33 i thought god where the hell have they spent the £53k original asking price and then i drove it!! You're not buying a name, you're buying driving perfection, a car that offers more feback than anything of its time and better than most since, this is a car that weighs 2 tons, has only 286 brake as standard, yet does 4.6 to 60 and 165mph and thats not even its fortee, corners are where it comes alive.

Reliability wise with a R8, my mate is a R8 tech for Audi and if speaking to him doesn't put you off your purchase of one, then nothing will. Someone quoted the price of skyline gearoxes at £20k, well im sure the amount of clutches that you would have done in your R8's will cost more than that by the time the gearbox in the skyline breaks.

As for the cost of replacing the bumper and bonnet of the new GTR, for that there is no arguement, as if you crash the R8 all you have to do is borrow the replacement parts from a TT lol

in a magazine i read they show prices of a GTR smashed ad wot it would cost compared to the R8

front discs on a GTR £1161........... R8 £533
front brake pads GTR £574...........R8 £252
headlamp GTR £1125(each)..........R8 £387
wheel GTR £1040(each)..............R8 £851
front bumper GTR £1046..............R8 £337

all that just to fix a nissan, amazin car but its still a nissan so R8 all day for me

in a magazine i read they show prices of a GTR smashed ad wot it would cost compared to the R8

front discs on a GTR £1161........... R8 £533 - what type discs, are they carbon ceramic
front brake pads GTR £574...........R8 £252 - as per above
headlamp GTR £1125(each)..........R8 £387 - complete assembly??
wheel GTR £1040(each)..............R8 £851 - not a nsssan wheel, these are Volk racing alloys, you get what you pay for, i.e. an RS4 alloy on your r8!
front bumper GTR £1046..............R8 £337 - again, how much comes with it?

Shall we add into the equation that you;re less likely to crash the nissan because of its allround superior ability, so all the figures above are mute

Hardly an apples to apples comparison - all these figures can be manipulated to benefit one or the other.

all that just to fix a nissan, amazin car but its still a nissan so R8 all day for me

Just a nissan! We're not comparing it to a lambo or ferrari here, we're comparing it to an Audi - personally I wouldn't spend £100k on a R8, because at the end of the day its just an Audi

and yes i have a small penis etc

So when you getting an R8 then?

personally I wouldn't spend £100k on a R8, because at the end of the day its just a Volkswagen

Fixed that for ya mate!

Lol thx for that, but lets not place the R8 in the Veyron family !!!

Ugliest car in the world with a price tag direct from the book "Funniest German Jokes Ever" - nah the R8 is a bit better than that!

I'm bored s***less with seeing R8s every day and would rather a TTRS, that way people would laugh at me for being a camp hairdresser, rather than laugh at me for being some City twonk or tasteless footballer with a tiny penis...

Nissan GTR? No way, not for me. But I'd be doing handstands and cartwheels if I had an R32 (Skyline that is, not a stupid Golf)

id rather a skyline over an r8 tbh ive seen one take off and it was frightning

Whoever quoted those prices was having a laugh.... I have a friend that works for Nissan and the prices quoted are nearly double what they should be!!

Both these cars you drive to go fast.... You wouldnt drive one to pootle round town unless you want to look like a saxo driver on a Saturday night.

And for that reason the Nissan is the better car, its cheaper, its faster and you can take your mates out in it and scare them.

Near where I live there are a few R8's so seem relatively common and tbh honest I am seeing more GTR's now but I would still prefer one as a piece of engineering excellence.

But one thing is for sure there is no way I am selling our Nismo R34 skyline for either of them because they are ****** rare....

Audi R8 looks amazing, wonderful in every respect, satisfying owners and onlookers with its stunning design.Though in terms of performance R8 goes just as good as it looks,GT-R beats the R8 quite convincingly. If your rich than you can go with Audi R8 but you want it and can't afford than GTR is best option..GTR is dream car which can more likely to come in reality than Audi R8...

What aload of crap

I just driven the R8 v10 and GTR around silverstone last week. Both amazing cars, but the R8 kills it

From someone who has driven them both pretty hard around the track

Took a test drive on a GT-R as my dads best mate works at a nissan dealer where there was one in, was the v-spec model and i have been in a r8 but never drivien one, the GT-R looks better, goes better, and i belive is a better car. I would get a GT-R but drive both and let your hear choose.

As a bit of reference the GT-R done the Nurburgring in 7:34 and the R8 V10 in 7:44. Quite a big difference!

have a collegue with a gtr he has just gone up to the 11 plate gtr,

servicing costs can be quite high, as are tyre prices, the new 11 only has one tyre avaible at the moment and they are £500 a pop,

he actually uses his correctly and goes to spar, the nurgberg etc and having been out in it and helped do multiple fluid changes etc i can say they are a great car, they drive well, but also you can simply just tootle to the shops in them, the grip is amazing, i must say even in the wet

i know which i would choose, no offence but i find the r8 a bit of a posers car and the gtr more of a mans/drivers car lol

R8 as the GT-r is a rich chav's car in my opinion..
r8 is luxury on wheels

Reviving this one as i'm looking at a R8 at the moment.

I think what the main difference is really is Audi have built the R8 to be driven every day & being German it is designed & built with a healthy safety margin for the power it's running.

I get the impression that the Nissan is built right on the limit of what it can handle, & if you abuse it you will pay for it.
Regarding the prices for parts, chances are if the GTR is built in lower volume, then it stands to reason that parts will cost more.

Just my pennies worth...

@S4quatt: GTR on the limit - are you sure - standard was 485bhp, now 550ish, simple map and y-pipe took mine to 570bhp for just over 1k; 4k will get over 610bhp and then the turbo needs replacing, etc.
Mine at 570bhp would blow everything away that I came up against.

Looks wise, the GTR is very aggressive - you wouldn't want to mess with it, but the R8 is to die for.

Simple choice - do you want to look good or just deliver the goods without fuss?

Ok what's the difference between a r8 v8s engine and b7 rs4 engine 6 more bhp on r8 due to a dry sump.

Ok I've raced my mate time and time again in his r8 v8 against my e46 m3 coupe, and there is nothing init between us he's shocked but I'm not as I know the engine isn't great infact it's almost a robbery to put that engine in 90k car and sell it on Audi fourcourts.

V10 is what it should've came out with, v8 is not even worth talking about too underpowered.

I think i agree there, maybe the R8 should have had the V10 as standard.
Having driven A V8 this weekend, theres not much difference performance wise to the 3.6 911 C4s.

The 997 Turbo however... Now that goes like I expected a Porsche should go!!!
