Coming Home & Leaving Home Lights Enabled

Finally got round to doing this today, works like a treat! I just used some old house wiring cable I had, earthed it and then just pulled it out in the connector. Jobs a good un...

Just to note, when I plugged my light switch back in (when refitting the trim) it turned the CH/LH lights off, I had to earth it with the light switch connected to get them to stay working.

Hello all, I've gone through the thread and become slightly confused. However, from what I gather my vehicle, 2005 SB, no interior light pack or rain / light sensor pack should work fine with the wire mod described and VAG coding? Do I need to disconnect the battery to do this mod?

Cheers

Rob

No as it needs a signal to tell modules the wire has been connected.

Thanks for that. I'm going to have a go at it tomorrow along with fitting my cruise control stalk.

Regards

Rob

H, all, just in the middle of this mod, but its just occurred to me, how can I tell which pin 12 is? Is there method for counting down etc?

Thanks

Rob

For reference the pin numbers are marked on the connectors anyway.

My mistake was assuming the plug was the connector. It wasn't until Matt pointed out that the connector needs to be removed from the plug that I saw the numbered pins. An easy mod, and if I can do it, anybody can!

Regard

Rob

this is a really cool feature and would like to have a go at this myself but what vagcom system would i need to enable this feature can it be bought on ebay ect and what price looking at?
all help appreciated thanks.

anyone in NE Lincs with VAGCOM to help me do this please?

I've tried to do this install today....But everytime I connect the earth wire to the point it works.....and then I tried it tonite again and no lights came on at all when I pressed the remote key to unlock the doors. I all so did a vag com scan and it came up with this:

02104 - Light Detection Sensor (G399)
010 - Open or Short to Plus

Can any one help me on this one? ........

I set this up and could only get the leaving home lights working - intermittently.

Are there any requirements for it to work as described?

I'm also only getting the leaving lights to come on......and it only works sometimes...it's like it has a mind of it's own. is anybody else having these problems?

Any Body got answers to my Vag-Com Test and why it only works sometimes?

Those errors are because the CH/LH actually relies on the light sensor thats also built into the rear view mirror, hence no mirror with sensor, errors will show.

It can't be ...because I don't have the rear view mirror which auto dimms.....I have a 53 plate.

Read the post again mate, you just said what I said & explains the errors, you get the errors cause it doesnt see the mirror installed which these features rely on anyway.

But it states in the "audiretrofit" site that. quote: "It is not necessary that your car have auto-lights\wipers or auto-dimming mirrors to enable this feature". So can't understand why it don't work and why i'm getting these errors.

I think what NHN is trying to say buddy, is that it will still work regardless of the light sensor being installed (which is what it says on the retrofit guide). It will still look for the module and not be able to find it but it will still work.

If you dont like the error, put it back to standard and not have the WH/CH function.

If you look at some of the older cars that have this feature it doesnt activate during the day but does at night. This is the job of the light sensor. The retrofit guide just makes it work all the time as the car cannot distinguish between night or day

I see what your saying now.....The only problem now is that it only works sometimes. Do you think it's due to the light sensor? and if so will installing this light sensor fix this problem?

Are there any other people getting the same thing as it only works sometimes ?

mine seems to work even less often now. when I get round to it, I want to re-check the wiring - see if it's not a loose connection causing it to be intermittent...

Hoorah finally someone got it, lol, yes a sensor fit would fix this as it would have the sensor to work via, thats the whole point, the system uses the sensor to tell the car when to turn the lights on/off, when you enable the feature it looks for the said sensor & associated parts that should be fitted on the car, because it cant see them fitted on the car network it is advising you with no communication errors with these parts, you will get these errors until you fit the proper ch/lh required parts.

It still doesn't answer my question to why it only works in only sometimes...or hardly ever.....

Geeees, I dont mean to be funny, but think about it a little bit more & then you'll realise what I do, you're basically enabling a function on the car that isnt meant to actually work without other things fitted, so its entirely possible you will have issues, I've heard it before from others & I gave them the same answer, fit the oem parts then you wont have any issues at all, also from your sig pic it could be because you have an older 8P & the central electrics board A doesnt like the fact the sensor etc arent fitted, did you check the wire at all again, did you try enabling/disabling/connecting wire/disconnecting wire, all things to be checked.

Also your central electrics board is a basic iirc so this may also affect the workings, it is superdeded as far as a D, where as the high end is superseded by several others with higher functions, check with Adam what board he has as you both seem to have similar issues.

Thanks for your help mate....I think I'm going to wait to get my S6 LED'S fitted to sort out everything......

Yes I've seen this & I would be weary, but if he can email you a manual (english one) then we can check wiring to see if possible.

I've got the manual but only in German.

This is the manual ..

This may/may not already be mentioned in this thread, but I thought I'd add my experience on the coming home and leaving home lights.

Whilst doing some other bits, Gareth from Hazzy Days coded this for me.

However, as I don't have auto lights, this coding meant that my main beam lights were on whenever my DRL's were active .... so I had him switch it off again.

A bit disappointing for me, but I don't want my main beam on all the time!

Chris

ok ive just got my repair wire from vw as its handy to me but it has a round pin like connection at the end?? is this wrong should it be like the square type??

I have a similar problem, when DRL's are on the headlights are on also? I can also go from dip to main while in that mode. Is there anyway too stop this without getting rid of the mod?

Cheers

Hi All,
Am I right in thinking that all I need to do is make a code change in vag com for this? I have a 59 plate A3.
If so, anyone here kind enough with VDS to assist? I'm in the Shropshire area. Cheers :icon_thumright:
