Got the mono's on

This is crazy, as Calvin said- each to there own. Everyone has preferences and mine sways more towards the looks so my car will be put on the floor!! And if you thought that my tyre's were stupid, check these out...couple of recent and ongoing work projects

TBH the rear tyres on that golf are illegal and downright dangerous, and i actaully hope the guy gets pulled over and gets 6 points for driving round with that deathtrap.

Your tyres are simply too small for the car, making the wheels look lost, whereas the golfs tyres are so obviously wrong you'd need to be braindead to think that was in any way "correct"

I appreciate everyones tastes are different, but with a slightly larger tyre, "slammed" or otherwise, i think they would look much better.

To be honest mate, you wont please everybody when modding your own car, as long as its what you want to achieve and thats what makes everybody individual.

I know that wot ive got planned wont be to everybodys taste with mine, but hey ho, it'll be me that done it to my tastes!(Would be a thumbs up here but somehow the smilies arent working at the min!!!)

Agreed with the above............Got my "Geeman Monos" on 225/45/17's. Car has been dropped 40mm from the already lower sport suspension (so thats 60mm from standard non-sport suspension). I also have hubcentric spacers running 15mm front and 20mm rear. The ride is slighty harsh, but far from unbearable. Never bottomed out. Handles better than it did before, turn in is sharper and feels more stable. I had excellent rubber on my 16's so pretty sure its not just the difference in tyres I am feeling. Got to say though, I respect the DUB thing, but the owner of that Golf needs kneecapping.

You know what the funny thing is... I am solely responsible for stoking up the tractor tyre debate! The tyres that Floyd's got on his monos were the ones that were originally on my black monos that Ollie then bought off me... (but then went sensible and put the 'correct' size tyres on) and the rubber bands I had on the Fat5's contributed nicely too.

I wish I had put the same size tyres on my monos now (215/35 instead of 215/40) - it might have made them look better!

If it wasn't for me... life would be peacful round here! lol

Just a (helpful?!) thought, but if Floyd and Geeman swapped mono's, that might work.... silver on black is always a winner, no compromise needed there!. It might detract from the "odd size tyre" look on Geemans that the mono's has brought, and would give more emphasis to Floyds low black beasty... just a thought...

send me a couple of side on shots and I'll wind up photoshop for a play later....!

Oh, and as for that Golf - I know that the stretched and rubber band look has its fans, but there is absolutely no way that thing would ride even remotely well. If the intention was to make it handle "as if on rails" then you might as well take the tyres off completely and actually put it on rails - doubt there would be any loss of give in the suspension or that it would make the ride any harsher!

..not for me thanks!

Put some pics up as soon as I work out how the hell you post pics on this new forum! It won't let me load them up from my computer or photobucket!!!

The owner of that golf is the editor from PVW magazine, i've just finished the work on it and think it looks awesome, cant wait till the feature. I suppose it would be better with the correct wheels and tyre's though, put some factory rims on it with a nice 225/45 tyre. That would make a real good show car

I thought I recognised the arches!

Doesn't surprise me then as Dave's Bora had mental stretch tyres on it too. My Mate bought it off him (Dave's now running his Mk5 Golf) and put some more sensible 18" BBS's on it.

PVW - leading the way in safety!

You've done work on the Golf?.. or Performance VW mag?

floyd: Are you seriously trying to suggest the rear tyres on that golf are safe?

You think the shape of the tyre sidewall in that photo can in any way be described as normal?

By all means, its his car and he can modify it to his tastes, but if its downright dangerous, and its on the public highway, then its not on.

Photobucket account is playing ball again now! Best pics I got at present....225/45/17's.

Phwoar look at those tractor tyres! You'll be out greenlaning in it next!

In all seriousness though, it looks much better, as i expected. It looks like it could be doing with a tiny smidge of lowering, but unlike floyds the wheels fill the space nicely.

Is it standard ride height? Looks about the same as ours at the rear, and perhaps a bit lower at the front?

Example pic of ours, there was a toolbox in the boot in this pic though:

That was before it was lowered. Now it sits 40mm lower than what you see in the pics. Any lower now and speed bumps/my driveway would be an issue. When work isn't consuming my life I will detail her and post some updates. Aragorn, are those medieval long bow defensive holes built into what appears to be the wall of your stairwell?

Would you believe it...? Anotehr set of 17" monos (fully polished) has just come up for sale... along with another set of 18" monos too!

Wish I'd kept the 5's now... they're everywhere! lol - Okay... 3 sets of 17's and 2 sets of 18's - not bad really I guess.

aragorn, you a member of NTs?

Ras: Nah, as i say we just drove in and took the snaps, then left. You can usually drive up there and park and wander round the grounds/gardens etc, you only need to pay to go inside the house itself afaik, the estate is open all year round. Theres usually a pay and display thing, however because we went in the winter when the house was closed, the pay and display crap wasnt there.

I didn't say they were safe! I was just saying, you think mine are bad........

Your tyre's on the blue avant look like the one's on the dragster. (joke by the way)

You've done work on the Golf?.. or Performance VW mag?

Yep, both! The editor (Elliot) took the mk4 to a bodyshop to have work done, they fu*ked it up so Tim at the Phirm suggested by dads bodyshop and so we done it. Soon as it's featured i'll post the pics i've got on my phone of the build.
Think we'll be getting alot of work from them now as we done such a good job, Elliot was mucho pleased which was good as i done most of the job myself! This could be my claim to fame...ish!!!!!!!!

Do you read the mag then?

I read PVW regularly. There's a lot of talk of elitism in the dub scene at the moment and PVW do tend to take a lot of stick, but it's still a good mag and I think the guys are actually quite nice after having spoken to them at some of the shows.

When Elliots car gets featured, your name will be up there for having a) done the work and b) getting him out of the ****... so I'd expect a few other dubs to come your way!

Yeah we should get a few jobs out of it, also my step dad's mk1 18t won best mk1 at players and will be on the cover very soon. fingers crossed and all that!!

Excellent.. that makes me feel 2% famous too just for knowing you lol :icon_thumright:

Yeah I try to get either Golf+ or Performance VW as in my opinion there's a lack of good performance/tuning mags that are Audi specific. Always had a love for all things VAG anyway so they make an interesting read.

geeman where are you finding these mono's i want some !!! but dont worry mine an avant !

There's a set of polished 17" monos on Edition38 forum at the moment... and the guy I got my 18's from is getting another set next week.

Yeah PVW has always been a good read. I've read the mag for years, now i know the editor and have worked on his car!!! He said i'd restored his faith in the car as the previous bodyshop done such a **** job, i should get a big mention so look out for James from Bodytone!!! And for my dad's GT3 inspired 1.8t mk1

Oh yer, i also know the lads at the company that done the cover car on golf+, the black and orange mk2. X-sport racing, my dad used to work for them back in the day now we do there paint work, doing a track day xr2 for them at the minute

Also today i've been working on a pro-mod dragster.........i've got a cool job!!!
