I am running a A3 1.8T AGU. Got the following message and started having rough idle at runnning temp (intermediately drop to ~500rpm and then stablise again). Also experience slight hesitation. Other then that everything else seems to be running fine.

Have changed the termostat and MAF but still the same. What else could be a problem?

00561 - Mixture Adaptation
14-00 - Adaptation Limit (Add) Exceeded
 
Air leak by the sounds of it... check all the pipes around the inlet mani for split pipes... check block 032 of the engine controller while the car is idling (and warm) as these are the adaption values... I suspect the first value will read very high (25%)

My temp gauge is dead centre at operating temp. Does that rule out the sender?

Thanks. Can I log block 32 on an AGU? If so, I will log it post the result here tomorrow..

Its ECU adaption values so should be ok... providing you have a working copy of VAGCOM rather than the shareware version of course as not sure if it will show much above block 25

Seems you have the same code as me...

Would be interesting to see what yours is..im still looking for my fault..

Hi, are you saying at no point in a 'normal' running car it will reach 25%? I logged the data during my 1hrs commute to work today. Did an decending sort on the lambda reg -10-10% column and you are right, I did get peak value of 25% for about 30 rows. Does that indicate a problem with air leak?

Yarp... should be as close to 0% as poss... anything other than this indicates a prob...

I would say so... rough idle plus the fault code plus the values suggests airleak... look around the inlet mani for vacuum pipes etc and start from there..

Most of mine were pretty shot....

Thanks! Do you have the part details for the pipes? Can you recommend a good place to get them?
 
Either replace with suitably sized silicone stuff (ebay or forge) or go to a dealer... most of the parts/pipes should have a part number at the very least.... failing that, plonk it on the desk in front of thier face... they should be able to find the right part... generally not expensive...

Found out that the vacuum pipe going into the FPR has disintegrated! I replaced the breather pipes and all vacuum 3mm hose with silicone pipe and the car is running much better, so far no ideling issues the the DV sounds louder too :icon_thumright: Haven't log any data yet, but I am hopeful that the problem is sorted!
 
hmm.. problem not solve... still has the same error code... only the fuel trim is slightly better... the peak is -23 now.. still nowhere near good enough.. The only consolation Car is ideling properly now

I have got quite a lot of zero values in the lambda logs... is that normal?
 
An adaption value of that much suggests a large leak tbh... check the PCV pipe coming off the bottom of the inlet manifold... there is an 'L' shaped pipe that comes staright off the mani, this splits at the bend where it goes into a 'Y' shaped valve... the pipe coming from the valve to where it connects to the PCV splits at the bottom where the oil collects so have a good route about under the mani... you will need to remove the metal try holding all the valves and stuff under the inlet mani to get a good look... check the hoses on that too...
