Labour costs...

Howdy,

Thought i'd start a thread where people can ask roughly how much labour they're going to have to expect for having various jobs done.

This could be very handy info for folk like me who aren't sure what they can afford to have done!
Also useful for checking you're not being ripped-off, or for finding out where the most reasonabley priced garages are located etc...


So, roughly how much can I expect to pay in labour for having KW springs & shocks fitted front and rear?
This will be at an independent garage.

I think my independent specialist charges about £35. I had a clutch done the other week, 170 for the clutch and 230 quid labour, he said when quoting it was about an 8 hour job so that's about right. Also getting a Jabba stage 1 remap for 250 quid

TT shop charges from 2 hours (£100 + VAT) for fitting and price for KW springs and shocks is £395 inc VAT. Bedford Audi labour is approx £100 an hour (inc VAT)

Dunno the costs, but I got told 4-5 hours to fit a complete set of shock and spring by my local independant.

So going on £45 an hour = £180-£225

High charges thanks to the front struts! 3 hours to do the front two, an hour to do the rear...

So the kit will likely take 2 hours to fit? That's not bad, I can handle that, especially if I can find a local specialist with 35/hour rate!

Ah, so who is to be believed?! I guess a lot of garages will add an hour or two of labour where they are in fact eating sandwiches and having a coffee.

Anyone who has fitted the springs & shocks themselves want to tell us how long it really takes? Cheers.

Well im just going by there website which says fitting starts from 2 hours, it could take longer. Also you need to factor in 4 wheel alignment too. My cars in TTS today i'll get a quote when I pick my car up. Also there hourly rate is around £60 iirc, they might have different prices for suspension if your buying the parts through them as there making money through that aswell.

I've replace a rear spring myself and that could be done in half an hour i recon, that was on my drive way using axel stands, would be even easier using a lift. if you've done it before and know what your doing I wouldnt think it would take more than an hour to do the rears (maybe less) and maybe an hour and a half for fronts.

i got my spring and shocks all round fitted that included rear trailing arm bushes for £230 all in from S tyres

hi i am having the exact same suspension fitted to my car as one of the front springs has decided to break in half. i was thinking about uprating the springs only which would have been around £20 per corner in labour my garage said. not sure how much it would be with shocks but seeing as my car is nearly 10yrs old, i think they need replacing also.

Update, TTS take 3 hours to fit, so approx £200 labour, then £60 for 4 wheel alignment

mate had a quote for £250 for his A3 1.8T cambelt..i thought that was expensive from a none VAG garage :/

Yeah, probably quite easy to find cheaper than that, despite the dealers charging £350+ for a cambelt service!
