Anyone got any ideas where I can get a de-silenced charge pipe? Are they commercially available or will it be a DIY job?

If a DIY job, anyone got a spare one kicking about?

DIY mate.... couple of threads on here somewhere how to do it... Ess_Three did it on his

Just something I want to do mate to be honest.

The metal charge pipe that comes out of the turbo, and around the engine and then changes to rubber hose off to the first intercooler is the one in question.

The 'lump' for the want of a better word, that is on this pipe directly after the turbo is a silencer (not unlike the one which is on the K03S).

Long and short of it being that I want rid of it!

Here is an image, I can't edit it for an arrow right now but it's pretty obvious...

I'm going to cut the whole thing off and weld a piece of pipe in it's place and paint.

It seems to defy the object of removing it when you leave the chamber where it was. A step in and a step out, pressure variations, not to mention the disruption to the airflow.... Takes away the point really. Although I love the noise of a blower on spool :eyebrows:

It's not my image, I may of plagurised it..... God only knows what that bloke is doing.....!!

I chopped mine off but then that was due to having a slightly different turbo :eyebrows:

LOL... skillz either way :)

Guys what are the benefits of doing this?

Not much....

Im going to get a whole new charge pipe made up for me by a friend. Wouldnt fancy just gutting the baffle and having an open chamber.

Im thinking aboiut taking my charge pipe off to get it polished up, is this just a simple bolt on, bolt off, or does anything need to be reset once refitting it?
thanks

sand, how did you get your baffles out, im assuming they are spot welded in place?

if i did this i would much rather modify the original pipe rather than hacking away at it

I see a huge angle grinder in the background of the pic on the floor! lol

Not anything performance wise really, just get a nice roar when its on boost :)

Which is exactly what I'm after.....:eyebrows:

Cheers for the pics Sandip, I will give this a go first and then decide if I'm going to cut/weld....

Guys i wouldnt bother, same the time and hassle.

The problem with doing this mod is that it leaves a large area as soon as air leave's the turbo, ive done it and wouldnt do it again unless i was going to weld a pipe in ploace of the baffle, thats why im currently looking for a charge pipe todo exactly that, that or get one fabricated without the DV hole in.

It's not very hard to do, i just took a little bit off the tip then bashed it till the baffle broke up inside, it's quite tough though so got to give it some force lol

I could machine up a gradual slopped bit of steel in the CNC machine that you could insert into the tube and tack weld it in place

did this mod earlier today, took alot of bashing and i broke a drill bit but its done. i cant feel or hear any noticeable difference but every little helps

Just done this modification and found it easier just to insert 2.5" exhaust pipe into the end that replaces the baffle thus giving it a smooth run with no steps

probably quite easy to fabricate these, anyone wanna give it a go ?

Is this like an alternative to drilling holes in the airbox? Seems like a lot of work for not much benefit.

awesome thread, it seems no use with silencer removed.
