Odd Tyre Wear Rate

I just noticed that the rear tyres on the A3 are on the wear limit.

The fronts have worn about halfway. The tyres have done 8000 miles and are Goodyear F1's which were all changed at the same time as it seems like all 4 wear at the same time, well they have been for the past 3 sets of tyres but this set for some reason is completely different!

Anyone else had this experience where the rears wear quicker than the fronts?

Baffling me really as they used to wear at the same rate!

Maybe the garage changed the fronts with the rears? The wear on the fronts is far worse even on the haldex A3s

Robin, the weirdest thing is, the exactly the same thing has just happened to me! But my car is FWD and not 4WD like yours !!!! All my tyres (Pirelli P Zero Neros - 215/35/19) were bought part worn, with 6-7mm tread left, I'm not even sure how many miles I've done with them, only a few thousand and the fronts must be like 4-5mm and the rears on the limit!! Gonna give Toyos a go next...

nah they not been changed around - 100% sure, they were fitted all at the same time back in oct 2008. very strange!

Toyo's are made of plasticine though mate - they'll wear a lot quicker than Pirelli's.

It surprises me that these rears are wearing quickly - on my last set of tyres, my rears looked ok, but my fronts were f*cked.

Mine is the same, bought Car new, now done 12,000 miles and 3 tyres are on 3mm tread and the 4th is on 4mm ( got a unrepairable puncture at 1,200 miles and the tyre waring light didnt spot it). I have the original Re050's on.

I have never had a front wheel drive car wear all tryes evenly, I have usually got double mileage out of the rears compared to the fronts, Baffling me as well.

Tyres are all he say, she say really, I can only go from experience. Lots of friends and cars I've driven have had Toyos are rated them VERY VERY highly, and you say they are tosh. Others say Pirelli's are W4NK and they are the best tyre I've experienced.......Horses for Corses, what you running Pete?

Not slating Toyo's at all - they're just very soft so don't last very well.

I'm running Conti Sport Contacts - not the best, but not the worst, and were by far the best buy at the time for 225/35 which are a slightly random therefore expensive size.

The thing is Pete, it wouldn't matter if you were slating them Pirelli's and Toyo's are soft, very grippy tyres, what I'm after. I'm happy with the Pirelli's BUT not afriad to give something else ago, I got a REASONABLE price on them Not much choices for 215s anyway

Soft is good - Conti's aren't known for wearing well - on my A4 I murdered a pair of fronts in 7000 miles but that gives grip, and grip is good

Toyo's from my experience were one of the fastest wearing tyres I've fitted - apart from some Yokohama's that lasted 2000 miles, but that was a while back. A mate of mine is a Toyo performance dealer and rates them.

had the alignment checked and the rear wheels weren't in spec, one wheel which had the most wear was 3mm out on the caster.

as for tyre choice i certainly rate Toyo's, i liked the T1-S's, T1'R's were also good but liked the S's more.

Yokos are good but last about 2miles of normal driving!

I remember destroying a set on my old Polo in 2000miles, they were the A539's.

Looking to get my tracking & alignment done, hopefully next week! Adds life to tyres and makes you drive in a straight line
