hi guys i am looking into getting a s4 or rs4 just not sure witch 1 to get os the a big jump in price form the s4 to the rs4 but run nearly the same engine, what do you think

There's only one RS4...

Modded S4's are very good, and start from a much lower cost base, but it's not an RS4!

Mine may well be for sale shortly (getting another one, with a much higher mod spec list @ 550bhp) !!

i no love the look of rs4`s and the power, you getting another b5,

If you want big power you will get a very good s4 for rs4 money but its not the same as owning an rs4.

if you have the money to buy an RS4 why are you looking at S4s?
different beast IMO, wouldn't hesitate if I had an extra £15k lying around.

Actually I would, have so many ****** kids it would have to be at least an RS6!

15k RS6 = trouble mainly.
Would be looking at 17k+ really for a sound one, with the DRC replaced as a minimum...

I have the other bit! just not the EXTRA £15k.
was a gorgeous RS6+ in black with brown leather on pistons heads the other month. £19k. would have sold a child for that

my feelings exactly. if you want an RS4, then thats what you have to get. if you just want a fast quiet sensible looking audi, get an s4 and tune it, but the rs4 is more unique as that

It`s all down to budget and personal choice really. Lots of options though, favorite one is S4 widebody about 3k to do, looks the part and as the b5 RS4 was an avant you`ll end up with the car AUDI didn`t make....... match this with an RS4 engine or the cheaper KO4 conversion, injectors, intercoolers etc. Not much change out of 8k. Factor in the initial cost of your S4 donor car and you are up around 12 - 15k......the price of an RS4, I know, but very unique saloon. Personally that would be my route as everytime i got into an RS4 i would be cursing myself for not going the converted saloon route. Having said all that i love my S4 as it is.

hmmm there are a lot of things you could get for £15k, i dont think a complete frankenstein of a car is one thing id want though and you definately wouldnt see all that money back

and youll still have a car with pathetic rear leg room. seems like a really lame idea

better route than that.

Widebody converted rolling S4 shell 2000 facelift - £3k its yours
S4 engine and box £1k
Ko4's £1k
MRC remap £500
throw in a grand for work done and bits not accounted for and you are looking at a 500bhp widebody S4 for less than £7k

If your prepared to pull the engine yourself to fit the KO4`s

and i doubt £1k would cover the missing bits, consumables, labour for bits you cant DIY (which given what ive seen so far on this board will practically none of it)

then youll have an s4 with loads of power (is the injection system really up to it?!) but on standard brakes and suspension

so more and more money later, it still looks like youd be better off with a proper RS4 given practically no one can DIY on here, the handmade RS4 saloon is a pipedream

Personally i wouldn`t want to do the majority of the work myself though i`m no stranger to a spanner. You`re looking at 2k labour just for the engine pull to change the turbo`s. Plenty of guys have done the full body and engine conversions or have paid for them to be done with great success. Of course brakes and suspension are a concern but its not something thats done overnight its a work in progress. How many S4`s are still running standard dampers and brakes, and if still running standard on a tuned engine suffer brake fade and wallowing in fast bends

Already out as you would be buying one to fit the shell. a refit is a hell of lot less than removal and refit

Widebody converted rolling S4 shell

anyone can bolt turbos to an engine out of a car and connect up some oil and water pipes.
turbos £450 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PAIR...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
brakes £500 (although I wouldn't pay more than £400) http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=81728

even adding another £1000 for labour you are still half the price of a bone stock RS4

hmmm £450 for a pair of ko4s... whose going to bet money on them being any good?

who knows if the injection system can fuel for 500bhp?

i love spanners, but im not sure id bother because after all the work youll still have a saloon with no space in the back

oh, that makes it all perfectly sensible then..

ha ha ;)
I would be interested myself if I wasn't up to the eyeballs in 1.8t!

look at this cracker. £4k work, and he wants £5k for a 15 year old v6 auto b5 estate.

not. in. a. million. years. is that thing ever going to sell

then dont you have to consider the suspension? i thought the RS4 was wider track too

its even more gay when people do this sort of thing to diesels, trying to pass them off as something they really really are not

Conversion will be anywhere between 3-5k.
S4 engine with box would be more like £2k.
K04s, new are more like 2k. Cheap tat from China/Japan are <1k, but will go bang.
Custosm remap at MRC £600.

Cost of £1.5k to to turbos alone. For all the other work at least another 1-2k.
Looking at c10-12k to 'make' an RS4 from an S4.

You'll need an uprated Bosch pump and larger injectors...

thanks, so even more money. i honestly think youd have to be mad trying to convert another car into an RS4. the RS4 is amazing and unique, cosworth did the head IIRC, audi did all sorts of work on the block, its practically bespoke

S4 engine with box would be more like £2k.
K04s, new are more like 2k.

I have been offered an S4 box and engine for £1000 this morning, one sold on eBay last month for £900.
Why buy brand new turbos when reconditioned one are perfectly fine.

Yes granted if you through £12k at an S4 you will have an stock RS4 beater but there are easier ways to skin a cat.....expecially when there is a wide body converted shell for sale right now for £3k, full leather interior etc etc.

personally id get on the blower and order 15 grand of over night parts from japan. with 15 grand under the hood it would decimate all regardless

talk to scott about reconditioned turbos going pop after 200 miles in = more engine pulls and spending the money on the proper thing

bad news! i think second time round your attempt to find a way from doing it underneath

^^ Fixed^^

Tho 15 k of parts is 2 DVs and a MAF,lol

that makes me a sad panda

yeah, but he makes scarey compressor surge noises when he leaves because his over night parts were delayed due to adverse weather

I know that one mate, i have been waiting for my tierods since Monday, only today got the tracking number. However my street is a proper skating rink currently so my post person needs to be dead brave. I was watching some teenagers taking turns to tow one another down the street with a Saxo while the guy behind was on a snow board.

Anyway back on topic, Matt, sadly mate not everyone has your knowledge or spannering prowess so have to gauge the costs of risking doing it against just coughing up etc

expecially when there is a wide body converted shell for sale right now for £3k, full leather interior etc etc.

Reconditioned turbos are notorious for going bang, get new or gauranteed hardly used ones.

Links to the shell for sale please...:)

He has a yellow 2000 facelift S4 that he widebodied for a customer, been in storage and he sold the engine and box to pay for the storage when the customer changed his plans.
in only needs an engine and box. there are plenty around, I found one today for a mate (so obviously you can't have that one!) but if you post on RS246 and SRS and here as well as eBay you will find one in a week.

You may not want the hassle but it is there if someone wants it. recognise what it is and it is a steal, there is £3k worth of work done to the car alone before you take into the latent value of a 2000 leather interiored S4.

Contemplating selling mine as i need one car for work and pleasure, 99 s4 avant, cream leather with carbon fibre trim, fsh, drives very well indeed, not 100% commited to sell yet, but certainly toying with the idea:think:
