S3 speed limited to 155 ?

Thanks for that Mitch, looks quite interesting.

I've also found an application for the iPhone called MotionX-GPS which I think looks to do a similar thing, and given I have the TomTom bracket with a decent GPS unit in, it might actually work ok not having to rely on the iphone's gps...worth a try anyway for £1.79!

Cheers!

All as i can say is WOW. Didn`t think the S3 was as capable as that.

Damn straight!

Not bad for an overpriced posh golf with numb steering souless engine and pretend 4WD.:whistle2: :icon_thumright:

I`ll have mine on Sprint Blooooo...:moa:

Cheers

This is the one I used:

http://www.landairsea.com/gps-tracking-systems/gps-tracking-key.html

And I've just found it here for £235:

It's unbelievable how accurate it is. You can even see where you've changed lanes on the autobahn to overtake something!

Been thinking about getting a gps tracker for a while but there are so many available didnt know what to go for.
Does this one come with software that reads the data that has been logged and inputs it into google maps?
Would you say it is easy to use, any downsides?

Cheers Davie

I just downloaded the MotionX-GPS application on my iPhone and went for a 25mile petrol trip!

It works quite well and allows you to capture all sorts of information and add pictures at waypoints etc. It does log your max speed, but it doesn't appear from my first thoughts to log it to a specific location on the overlayed map once you download it like it does in Mitch's picture above.

But for £1.79 it's very good actually! that combined with Dynolicious, much fun to be had on the way to the petrol station!

Here's my results on the way to the petrol station if anybody is interested!

thats on a private track through my model airplane club field, not the best road and a bit slippery.

Thats using an application on the iPhone called Dynolicious.

Clever, maybe not massively accurate, but a good fun bit of kit.

I never said all that. Not all at once, anyway

Watched the vid again with sound and I'm very very impressed with the speed and stability of the S3, fair play

:hi:

109.4 km/h? Come on, you can do better :eyebrows:

I mean i've managed to find an app for my iPhone that acts as a GPS tracker, I then managed to find a way of downloading the .gpx file it creates for your route into Google Earth, which then shows various data for the route, much like Mitch was showing us earlier.

Only problem is, the basic version of Google Earth doesn't do it, you have to upgrade to Pro (or do it with a 7 day trial like I have)

Mitch - What software do you use to downlad the info from your device? Is it Google Earth?

....note to self

always upgrade to latest version of software!!

But thats it, job done now, all works, and a new gadget for me to play with!

This is the best i could manage..
155 at 2000rpm in cruise :)

and its still showing 36mpg !

LOL Paddy, how did you mange to do this with cruise? Dont think mine does that when you set it? :uhm:

or if you have an iPhone try the Motionx-GPS software for £1.79 and Google Earth with similar results, and works on a Mac. :)

I did top speed runs in my 2.0TQ and my CTR before that and both felt a bit dodgy above 140. In the S3 you can't even tell how fast you're going. I've been above 150 many-a-time with my misus in the car and she never bats an eyelid!

For three months I was living in Herford and working in Gutersloh so my commute was about 30 miles up the A2 at 6am when it was pretty quiet, used to average about 150 all the way there every morning all on a works fuel card in a Mk5 GTI.

It was all over the place just above 155mph so never pushed it to the limit but what an ace start to the day. :)
