HID'S

The error canceller unit wont fix your ABS problem.. All that will do is fix the bulb warning on the dashboard..

The ABS warning is simply because the Ballast is in essence EMP'ing the ABS Module / Crash sensor on power on... Causing the car to log all sorts of faults... Mine even thought in VAG-COM the other week that it has actually had a crash!!

So, two options really... Move your HID Kit elsewhere so not to interfere or find some way to shield the strong RF signals.

At the moment i am using a temporary measure of turning my lights on before i even put the key in the ignition.
Then the second i turn the key, the HID's fire up before and of the modules report errors. I then carry on to start the engine and all is fine :)

Cheers
Chris
Hi Chriash32,

I went to Audi today about another issue, after doing a diagnostic check the engineer reckons that the diagnostic has thrown up a ABS warning which is basically rendering my ABS system inoperable, he advises the removal of the kit immediately in case of accident, I have spoke to http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/parkingsensoronline1__W0QQ_armrsZ1 they stated that they would'nt have sold the kit if they knew it was for a A4 2002 model. They've offered a full refund or another more expensive ballast they sell, which is supposed to be 95% error free and works with 2002/3 models, they said that they won't charge me anymore for it. I know that you was looking to purchase from this ebay seller but am not sure who you bought from in the end, if it's this lot get in touch with them for the shielded ballast.

thing is that me and Chriash32 got the same kit mounted in the same place he get the warning and i'm not mine is 2003 by the way sorry Chriash32 about delay will put some pics tomorrow when get back home

Have you done a diagnostic check recently?

Kostas, please could you send me a pic, or let me know where you have out your black rubbery wires please? as i think its these hanging down that are making my car do funny things!

Cheers! :banghead:

hope it helps

Yup, fitted them today, and no worries at all. The hardest thing I found was getting the ****** connector off the back of the headlamps!!!!
Ballasts fit nicely where they would have had it been chosen as an option, and even managed to squeeze in the decoders. £66 quid - all good.

Fitted mine yesterday & all seemed fine for a while after testing until I went out on a trip. I had the side lights on first then as soon as I put the headlights on bang, the dash board lit up like a Xmas tree with every warning symbol it has, ABS, airbag, traction etc.

I pulled over, switched off the engine & lights then put the lights on first & then the engine & it was fine after that. On the way back on my drive home I tried turning the lights on again a few times while driving & it was ok on all occasions. I'm going to have to keep a close eye on it now as I can't see it happening only the once!

Any thoughts?

If it happens once it will happen again. I'm awaiting a new ballast (see post 121) which are supposed to be 95% error free and don't effect the canbus/abs sensor. I'll update you as to their effectivity when I receive them.

Would it not be worth trying a decoder? My kit came with these I think:

Mine are suppossed to be the latest ballast, Canbus pro gold & 100% error free?????

I think I'll have to get in touch with the seller as I did ask if the kit would be 100% error free & was told yes.

I watched this thread for ages & asked lots of sellers on ebay before I made what I thought was a safe purchase.

Keep us updated about your new ballasts when they arrive.

remember though, that these "error free' ballasts are only for light warning errors that you get on modern cars. they are not for the ABS system etc etc. This is caused by RF interference on the system.

Just need some way to shield the Ballast off from the ABS Sensors.

I know its not the neat solution you guys are striving for, but I've just mounted my ballasts up near the bulkhead. The O/S one is strapped underneath the a/c pipes, and the N/S one is hidden under the cover surrounding the washer tank etc.

Its good enough for me (who sees the engine bay anyway?) and I couldn't be ***** with the error warnings lots of you seem to be plagued by.

When I mounted mine I put one up by the air con pipes & the other as far up the N/S of the engine bay I could, still get all the errors! It even knocks my speedo out.

Have contacted the seller who is going to send me some extra warning cancellers although I can't see how they will work when I already have the canbus pro kit. Anybody know why some people have problems & other don't?

Ive found it just trial and error.first set I tried on my old car made my dash light up and they were over £100 then I got refunded and bought a £65 china set and no errors at all.Yet you could prob put the same kit on a different A4 and they would throw up errors...Why?????some know, some dont but suppose thats why some have to have the cancellers!!

Hi,

With the HIDS do you leave the auto lights feature switched on?

I have auto lights on my car was not sure how the HIDS would response. I am looking at the same kit you brought.

They would come on in exactly the same way as your halogens would.

I've now tried slimline and custom ballast custom ballast is supposed to have built-in error cancellers but did not work for me in fact they threw up errors even if I turned on HiD's before ignition. Tried slimlines again with error cancellers received recently from seller, these seemed to have done the trick no ABS/ESP/BRAKE warning lights on the DIS although will need to get a VCDS to confirm. If that is the case you should maybe try my seller, although what J7USS said about same kit different car maybe correct. Still worth a try:unsure:. Surprised about result I thought warning signals on DIS were caused by RF interference from ballast, this seems to disprove it (see what shows up on the diagnostic).

It Defo is interference, mine has been doing it for 3 years, only happens every so often but i don't even have DIS, some ballasts even shaft the radio too, I have had about 5 sets of HID's now, the ones on ebay are just really poorly made, but they are cheap and do the job :)

check your radio in FM with lights on and lights off, see if it makes a difference, i once had a ballast that stopped me picking up any FM :)

Just for the record lads, this is the list of faults the HID's throw up on mine!!

Engine:
18057 - Powertrain Data Bus: Missing Message from ABS Controller
P1649 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
18061 - Please check DTC Memory of ABS Controller
P1653 - 35-00 - -

ABS:
65535 - Internal Control Module Memory Error
00-00 - -

Instruments:
01316 - ABS Control Module
49-10 - No Communications - Intermittent

Cent Elec:
01312 - Powertrain Data Bus
79-10 - Please Check Fault Codes - Intermittent

These the same as anyone else?

Cheers
Chris

You've obviously got a cabby yes?

I bought some of THESE for my silver indicator bulbs. They look good.

Slim ballasts are on ebay, there are lots available, take your pic remembering you get what you pay for ;)

What do you mean by "Whats recommended power wise?" ?

No i have an avant james, do cabby lights fit i was told they do?

Sorry by power i meant 4300k or 6000k, think im going to use 6000k

I am 99.9% sure that cabby light's won't fit I'm sorry. But I'm happy to stand corrected if wrong, and I hope I am.

Oem are 4300k. I have 6000k but wish I had 4300's as mine are a bit 'too' blue for me personally.

James is right. Cabriolet headlights are completely different to Saloon and Avants

different shape and different mounting points.

Also different internally as well

Though they look very similar I think its the shape and fitment of them. I was going to buy the cab lights before I joey modded because they are already 'joey'd' but after some enquiries it was confirmed they wouldnt fit.
I had some S4 Cab Xenons last year and gave them to my Bro inlaw for his A4 and they wouldnt fit.

....speedy beat me to it :detective2:

cheers guys, looks like ive got some brand new boxed cabby lights for sale when i take delivery.

Well I got the extra warning cancellers & still got the problem, it happened less but that might just be coincidence.
The seller just wants me to send them back now for a refund as he says my car is unsuitable. Keeps saying it's because of my ECU having been messed with, even though it's never been chipped or remapped? He said I could buy some A4 specific warning cancellers from him @ £14.99 but I can't see how they would be any different.

I'm not sure what to do now as I don't want to go back to halogens as they are crap compared to these HIDs.

Reggie, Get your refund and try a different Brand/Set.Its trial and error with these kits mate, what work for some dont always work for others!
