Pirelli P6000 v Federal

yet another thread and more cost
i need 2 new front tyres
i can get pirelli p6000 @ £90 each fitted which is a good price
or federal @ £70 each
i cant afford more than £90 and dont really want to pay that, and i have heard that the p6000 arnt to good in wet conditions.
are federal any good ?
can anyone comment or recomend any other make around this price range

I just got 2 new fronts for mine p6000 cost me £140, so maybe you should try another garage
 
Mine feel fine in the wet never had any problems i have p6000 on all 4
 
Yes, if you have the standard 16" wheels then you should pay no more than £70 a corner for Pirelli's (black circles have them at £65.77 fully fitted). Personally I would go for Goodyear Excellence at a similar price. Forget Federals, they are purely for farm machinery.
 
I always splash out a bit when it comes to tyres, there the only think between your car and the road after all, so very important lol! If you look into it, the Goodyear eagle F1's are generally considered to be the best all round tyre, i'd go for these, you never know when you might want to stop in a hurry!
 
i agree, i always think tyres and brakes are the 2 things you sholdnt skimp out on.
 
i think mine are just the standard avus
but they are 255/55/17
i have searched everywere and cant find them anywere near 140 for the 2
thats why i said 90 each is the best i can get and that was good.

255/55/17 won't be right bud, you can go for these:
1. 225/45/17 (standard)
2. 235/45/17 or
3. 245/40/17
 
go on a site like camskill.com , price the best you can afford then ring round ya local garages who will often price match...i deducted £10 off the internet price cos the garages will add £10 per wheel fitting ;) .....mine is willing to do goodyear asymetric's for my 18" RSTT's for £100 per corner...... the original price was closer £150 when i entered the garage ;)

oh and im hearing on the grapevine that legistlation now dictates that where you arent changing all 4 tyres...the newest have to go on the back apparently...well, the garage are supposed to fit them on the back :) you could always change them if needs me
 
Wow if you were really running 255/55/17 you were seriously out on rolling radius, what idiot put those on the car? 12% larger RR than stock, not a good idea.
 
I had p6000's all round when I bought it.
hated them. Ok in the dry (and by that I mean nothing impressive) but in the wet and more importantly the cold they were shocking!
tried them on all sorts of pressure combinations.

switched to GY GSD3's and in wet and dry they are the second best tyre I have owned (beaten by Michelin PS2's) but the GSD3's also suffer pretty poorly in the cold weather and have low grip levels in anything remotely icy/snowy. could be the v shaped tread pattern.
Even with this they are streets ahead of P6000's. couldn't give them away as part worns
 
Cheapest I would consider are Falken 452s, but i'd be tempted by Uniroyal RainSport 2s if you can find 'em.

p6000s and federals are utter gash, i wouldnt put them near any car of mine

if you want a good tyre without costing the earth, get a set of kumho ku31
 
JS, apparently so according to my MOT fella..... i think its something to do with most cars being FWD and the rears not wearing and eventually cracking due to age...although nothing to stop you changing them around if you so wish :)

Falken FK-452 £79
Pirelli DOT2007 P ZERO NERO £86
Toyo PROXES T1-R £86
Goodyear EAGLE F1 GS-D3 £89

Would pick the eagles everytime, but have also run to proxes as well on everything I've owned (mk2 GTi, 200sx, R33 GTR 550bhp)

Makes no sense to me either. 70% of your braking is via the front tyres so I know where my new rubber will always be put, regardless of crazy legislation. When has any government legislation actually made any sense? Speed camera's, no retest for elderly drivers, feeble punishment for drink drivers etc etc
 
better tyres on the back ensure that your car is more likely to understeer which is what manufacturers prefer. less deaths!
 
GY Eagle F1 GSD3 for me, cant complain about them, they are really good.

I got 2 x 225/45/17 fitted for £170, which I was pretty impressed with, I also had them put on the back.
 
Just for ref on the whole tyre deabte.

Got 4 x Vredestein Ultrac Cento for £360.00 inc VAT fitted at Wheelgame in Tadley.

They are a new tyre from Vredestien; used to have the Sessanta Range (which are spot on and IMO just above the GDS3 and T1R) but thought I would give these a go as they are supposedly a very quiet and longlasting tyre. Only time will tell.
 
Can't say for sure on the Cento's yet as the snow hasn't helped. However with the Sessanta's there was very impressive amounts of grip on the wet and dry easily matched the T1R and F1's
