Anyone here lived with a 350SL and have a valid opinion on it ??

Cheers

Nope, just driven one. I do have an opinion or three on them though, none of them bad...which model are you looking at?

Ooooh, a newie one

That's a lovely lovely car but you might want to read up on them on a Mercedes forum - plenty to go wrong at that age (I know it shouldn't happen but they had a really poo quality phase between about 1998 - 2006)

Electrical grief

Cheers mate will do. Could it be worse than my audi A3 3.2 ? i doubt it :faint: and its cheaper than a 2 year old S3 !

STOP PRESS.....Paddy in ASN SHOCK "S3s are too expensive" Post.....:sos:

Although Merc V S3 is a refreshing change from other comparisons we see.

Cayman anyone?

BTW, my S3 is 2yrs old now, is it really worth circa 29K:icon_thumright:??

cheers
Paul

STOP PRESS.....Paul still wants a caymen :)

BTW...bit of an exaggeration on the S3 price but i priced one up with a few bits and buckets and it came out at £36.5k....Its ****** 3 door hatch ! No auto lights/wipers/cruise etc for £29K second hand...

Dont get me started :banghead::)

You can spec Golfs, FORD RS etc to wacky RRPs but thats what they cost, so if you really want one you have to dig deep.
Or but something older.......or French.:tapedshut:

If the V6 was still available I would guess there would very little difference between that and the S3, if you use the R32 and the new R as a yardstick.
In fact a fully specced up Golf R is MORE than an S3.

In summary, premium hatches are expensive, period.
So lets no bash the S3 toooo hard here.

And lets not forget that the used screen prices you see on dealer forecourts are pretty optimistic, and many punters are acheiving 10%+ discounts on new RRP anyway.

I bought my lightly used S3 from and independant, and it was 4K less than an equivelent car on a local dealer forecourt.!!
Optomistic prices indeed methinks.

FWIW, but not having driven one, the later SLK is a million times better looking (and more blokey) than the old one.

Go get your hand in your pocket you tightwad:)

Cayman? Pah!, apparently its a poormans Porker anyway....:undwech:

Dont get me wrong...the S3 is ****** nice car..........but its a £25k car with all the extra,s.........not a £38k car with a few bits and bobs that anyone else would regard as standard :)

Yea Caymen is a council estate Porker but hey......someone has to buy them....:)

AND.....I am not looking at an SLK.........its an SL....

Seriously though Paul, thanks for getting the joke !! I'm not as miserable as you might think......just a strange sense of humour :lmfao:
I suppose if my A3 had been even slightly reliable and had i had the service from Audi i though i might get from a premium brand i would except they were worth the money but my car misfires..pops and bangs , hesitates at 2k revs........and Audi say its got no fault codes so there is no problem...period.
What can you do ? move on i supose.

Happy new year mate :drag:
