Hi guys
quick question regards the B5 RS4 discs. (car already has B7 calipers)

whats the dimensions on a standard oem disc?
also dimensions on a B7 disc?

apart from the drilled B7 discs as being an upgrad (how much are these?), what other discs are out there

Ive been reading the VW W12 Phaeton Discs fit. what are the dimensions on these and price? and has anybody fitted these yet? how do they measure up?

You must be watching a number of threads on S/RS and RS246, as this is topic of the moment... One that I'm very interested in myself!

Standard/OEM disc is 360mm diameter.
B7 RS4 discs are c£450 per pair.

I think the Phaeton disc is 350mm. Have read someone on the other forums has used them. Not sure what's involved though. It's usually as a result of using different calipers though like Porker ones (me).

You might also consider the RS6 disc which I believe is cheaper than the RS4 one.

You could also look at the B5 RS4 GMBH disc = same size as solid disc but is drilled, at c700euros (from The fatherland)...

Can't help a massive amount as I'm currently using OEM discs/calipers, but shortly changing to Porsche Cayenne 6 pots, which need a smaller disc (350mm vs 360mm), so having problems of my own. May have to just machine down some OEM ones to fit, or buy AP Racing ones at c£3-400 each.

HTH...

:sorry:

Thanks for your response fella, ive been researching this all afternoon, and they seem to be a very good/decently priced upgrade over the B7 discs (these will start to develop cracks so be aware if you abuse your car)

the Phaeton discs are 2 piece 365mm x 34mm - the part no. is 3DO 615 301N (they can only be ordered from VW - thats what ive been told) and they cost around 170ish each

IRRC doug at MRC has these fitted to his own Rs4 and hes just come back from the ring with no issues

looks like i will be ordering these v.soon

Not sure if Doug has these or not. I thought he had RS4 B7 discs and I know he has R8 calipers (same as the RS4 ones)... Had a chat with him about them when I was up there last...

Chaps

New to the forum but have been playing with VAG brakes of most flavours for 4 years or more. If you use Mercedes R500 350x32mm discs they'll fit with a 2/3mm spacer on the caliper/hub face. They are already 5x112 and just need a Disc mounting hole drilling.

On the Mk5 Gti they are a direct swap out for the ECS Stage 5 discs, I also have the shouldered bolts required for fitting the calipers - (In EN16 70t tensile strength)

Best bit........they're 90 quid

Apologies for crap pics

Agree with Carl except........You can't use RS6 discs without modifying the carrier as the offset is different. I am going to see if AP will do a disc to match the B7 hats as an alternative.
B7/RS6 disc are 365mm x 34mm.

^^^ What he just did say ^^^

Like the sound of DaveB's suggestion apart from they're smaller even still (the discs), wouldn't want to go from 360mm dia down to 350mm. Alot of braking force lost there.

Like the sound of the price though !

Stoaksey

You got Cayenne Calipers on B5 discs??? I couldn't get pad placement on the 360mm discs. Each caliper has got a geometric limit for disc size and I was under the impression 350mm was it for the Cayenne Calipers.

I've also got a drawing for DB9 Calipers onto the S4 345mm disc got some pics somewhere. This is actually a very lightweight setup comparitively. The DB9 caliper is also used on the Ford GT and uses the Mitsubishi EVO pad, the shorter Ferrari F40 pad is available in Pagid RS compounds. Pistons are perfect for RS4's at 40/44mm

I know its smaller but its only radius that counts and maybe consider big enough as opposed to bigger is best!

Stoaksey has the same set up I had: 355mm (turned down OEM RS4) with Cayenne/Touareg calipers. I used original Touareg Pagid pads which gave full swept area across face of disc for road, and Performance Friction pads for Track, albeit at reduced swept area.
