How do you remove the chrome surrounding on the front grill ?

Is it glued on lol? Does it just pull off ? or is it clipped in somehow ?

Had a little attempt earlier at pulling it off, but was too scared i was going to break it ha, so gave up.

take the bumper off and remove it from the back clips in

i think you have to take it out from the inside mate, ie take the bumper off! thats how you take the grill out on the bottom of the bumper neway!!:salute:

If its only the silver surround you want to remove, you can use a flat blade screw driver in the top left or right corner and prize it off.

You only need the bumper off to remove the whole grill.

As Westle has said, a flat blade screw driver and prize off, be careful of the clips though cause they 'are' fragile...

Leggy have you sprayed yours blue or black? Thinking of doing this but unsure if I should go body coloured or not?
Cheers Matt

I've thought about doing the same thing too Hoggy but i think the chrome mirrors match up with it nicely!

as already mentioned, it clips off fairly easily. I just sanded it down slightly, few coats of palstic primer sprayed it with some 'audi black' paint from Halfords!

Matt I had it sprayed Ming blue at a professional body repair shop with proper 2 pack paint so it's more durable, haven't any stone chips after a few months of it being done.

Does look a lot better, I was well chuffed when I picked the car up, though I must admit it was Westle who gave me the idea of colour coding, wouldn't look right on some S3's but it does on the Ming blue :)

I would take the bumper off as the chances are that you will break the tabs off.

I have seen a few and they suffer with stonechips which is a shame as it looks good.

I managed to remove it just buy prizing it off, but with great struggle, must of been there for a good hour.

It was the bottom bit that was being a bitch lol, just did not want to unclip, nevermind, its all done now.

Cheers for the help guys, better get spraying in a bit =]

Cheers Leggy and Westle realy want to do it but im thinking it is probably going to cost a fair bit for sutch a small job, dont know if I should wait untill somthing else needs painting or try it myself? Do you know if you can buy the trim on its own or would you have to buy the whole grill? just incase I make a balls of things!

Cheers Matt

Yeah I know what you mean, I only got mine done because I had my bonnet and bumper sprayed. I did the spray can job first and it got stone chipped to hell!

If you prize off the surround it should have a part number on the back, I'm sure you can order it without the whole grill.

No worries mate...

You can buy the trim seperately from the dealers if you do make a hash of it, think it's roughly £15-20 iirc...

sweet thanks again mate think ill buy one then and work on that! Doh should of thought I was only at the dealers yesterday picking up my tt pedals and 8p S3 gearknob :faint:

Cheers Matt

I was ready to pay over £100 but it was only about £65! Bargain! Ill post some pics when I fit it will be next week as I havnt got time to fit it yet,

Cheers Matt

Doh! i just ordered new gear knob for s3, but went for standard one, asked the audi bloke and he was saying thats my only option! should done some research on here before :-(

Will do when I get home mate should be about an hour, Xmas shopping at the moment (well sitting outside the changing rooms while she tries stuff on) Bored but AS.net keeps me goin!

Cheers Matt

HaHa yeah Ive set an Icon up along the bottom of my Iphone. It goes Phone-Ipod-Messages-AS.Net,

I have the part number for the 8p S3 Gearknob and Gaiter surround, They do it with Red stitching on the gaiter or White,

This is the number for white stitching: W8P0 863 278 CC SZN

The price is £61.87 +Vat Hope this helps a few people out.

When on the net press + then it will say add to home screen "Just like that"

Cheers Matt

You can even make an Icon by zooming in on a picture on that page before pressing + and adding to home screen bit sad I know but it makes your phone look a bit more tidy, I just zoomed in on that Gearknob at the top of the page

Cheers matt

If my mrs sees me on my iPhone she always says, "ah how cute, you're talking to your Audi buddies again". They just dont understand.

Ever since that Episode of Inbetweeners my mrs just says 'Car Friend!'

Cheers Matt for the gear knob part number.

Been on the phone to the dealer earlier and he didn't really have the faintest idea what I was after, I stated that I'd like the new 8p S3 gear knob for my 8L S3, his reply was " what platform is that, is that A3 or A4 ??"

That was soothing to hear, basically without the part number I didn't have a chance...lol

Makes you wonder what some of these dealers have between there ears...

nice car - nice finish on detail, but sorry not my cup of tea - it looks bare. It's like having a gorgeous looking other half scantily clad in her undies with the same colour as her skin ? How the hell that came in to my mind , I simply don't know !!

painting the audi badge on the front in red would look good with the black surround, but not all in black - or the vertical slats in red and everything else in black ?

:banghead:
