Fitting back roof spoiler issue

Hi! I am trying to fit a new S3 roof spoiler and its proving more difficult than I had hoped.

I removed the plastic coveringfrom under the boot lid, but cannot see the 2 screws which are supposedly holding the old spoiler in order to remove them.

Does anyone have pics of the removal process or have some first hand advise?

They're usually stuck on with sealant mate cause I've fitted one & no screws at all cause of water damage etc possibilities from the holes & given no need to screw down really, it would be a case of pull it of given the sealant they use, but to clarify why are you taking your old one of as whats the difference apart from 03-05 had squarer edges & the 05 onwards had rounded edges, generally they're the same, can you enlighten us with some images so can see what you're trying to achieve?
 
well i have the standard A3 roof spoiler and i want to fit the S3 spoiler which is visibly larger.

But very intresting thing you are saying. i never thought of it. So the standard spoiler is no fitted with screws! So it could be just a matter of grabbing it and pulling it off the car?! hahaha i'll try that :)
 
i take it urs is the s line cos the standard a3 dont have spoilers, my a3 sports doesnt have a spoiler. and yet pretty much, its quite hard to take it off as the bonding that is used is pretty tough, nowadays, bonding is what they use for pretty much anything due to the fact of rust and the screws weakening!
 
I dont think the S3 is any bigger at all, have you got images to compare?
 
Etka lists an adhesive kit against the spoilers, part number 00A 071 785
 
Yeah think I've still got it aswell & also about 10 sausages of sikaflex, lol
 
are you talking about the bit at the top where the highlevel brake light is on mine? That bit doesnt come off, the spoilder goes over that.

Lmao, u cant be really serious, he really cant be trying to remove that metal part that the light is fixed into, sorry but maybe if this is true you should get someone else to fit it cause if you cant tell thats part of the damn boot itself then does worry me, lmao sorry but thats funny & not meaning to be condescending but really defies my belief

Please tell me I'm wrong cause thats not a spoiler, thats the boot itself, it goes over the top of the boot part you're trying to remove, if you check the inside moulding of the spoiler you can see its designed around that top part of the boot, dohhhhhhhhh

You gotta laugh at this cause it is funny.

KHUFU, the answer therefore to your question is yes, i am referring to the high level brake light. And I always assumed that that piece would come off. But what you say changes everything!

And if it is correct, it means that i need to make two large holes direcly into it to fit the new spoiler because the new spoiler as two protruding pieces where the screws go. i findit hard to believe that i need to make thes 2 holes.

i shall take a pic of the spoiler shortly and post it here.
 
no worries fella, at least you take it in a friendly humourous way & I for one very much respect that, no disrespect intended mate, as for the spoiler, dont even think about drilling holes, just use the bonding kit, the spoiler comes with double sided sticky tape for you to fix in position with the sealant aswell, so you basically clean the areas of the roof of the boot where it sticks to, then get the sealant & put a small channel all round the indented underside of the new spoiler, there is a channel already showing you where it goes on the spoiler, then remove the double sided tape, then stick it to the car & keep pressing it down so it bonds well & tight to the boot top, just keep doing that for about 20 to 30 mins then get some masking tape & tape it down so it holds in place & leave for 24 hours, making sure to not tape it to tight down the rear of the boot as this area will pull it down & wont sit correct, but on the roof you can tape it fairly well as its flat & shouldnt move, that'll be stuck fast by then mate, but I'd get painted 1st then do it, of course dont drive it for those 24 hours
 
NHN! Thanks for the detailed explanation. I shall follow your instructions closely,..But I think the saga still continues,...

I have taken 4 pictures finally of the spoiler. And as you can see, the place where the 2 screws need to go, are protruding out. This is preventing it from fitting nicely onto any flat surface. Please have a look at the pics:

Tigerseal is a very good adhesive. i stuck ym spoiler on ym 106 with it and it doesnt budge at all. can fidn it on ebay
 
It should come with a fixing kit with sealant not screwed down, but best is sikaflex black as that sticks like concrete to a mafia dons feet in the hudson river, lol
 
Nope, grind of the pillars & as already stated stick it on with sealant.

right! So u r sticking to your story. OK. Then so be it! I'll give feedback when it is on....
 
Lets put it this way I would grind them of & then check the fitment is flat & where the sealant sticking areas need to be then I would stick it on, it really isnt brain surgery mate, just make sure the spoiler is sealed round the edges so it doesnt trap any rain water so prevents any lacquer/paint damage, to drill holes etc is going to bring up issues later on if you're not to confident with sealing the holes properly & also knowing the correct locations for the holes, so grind pillars down, then do a test fit & check the gaps all round, when satisfied the spoiler is flat then clean the roof & seal it on as my previous post further up, you can see the sticky orange tape you need to remove to fit in place which helps it stay while the sealant hardens.
 
I'v got the a3 2010 sportback non s-line. My dealer in Norway said that the votex spoiler with the breakinglight on top is the only model that fitt, and the s-line spoiler with the breakinglight in the middle is a different size??

any ideas??

can't se that the s-line sportback and regular sportback has a diffrent back roof size?

I think the s-line spoiler looks more right and clean.....

Anyone know if its the same fitting for s-line and votex? Just take out the old breaklight and reconnect the now one and glue it on :)
