Dyslexia

Now i'm sorry to any dyslexic people out there, this is just my opinion

Basically, i'm on another forum where i have many friends and have been on there for a good few years

I absolutely HATE it when people make the most basic spelling mistakes

There's this one guy that has posted 3 threads today, and has got a word in the title wrong.....e.g.

"I've baught this laptop"

"What size breaks do i need?"

and

"Post up pics of you're Corsa"

He now blames it on dyslexia, but i'm sorry, these are basic English words that you learn from a very young age at school, and you use in everyday life

I'm not saying i'm a perfect speller, and i will occasionaly get my grammar wrong, but just consistantly mis-spelling very basic words seems a bit dodge to me

Don't mean to offend anyone, but i really do think that Dyslexia is just a made up syndrome sometimes

What are people's thoughts?

With respect, I think this is THE most stupid thing I've heard in a while, and whilst your post says 'not meaning any offence', some will be taken.

My brother is VERY badly dyslexic. It is a fully recognised condition as you should all well know, and he struggled very badly at school due to this, and was bullied quite badly for being 'stupid'.

Dyslexia should not be confused with stupidity. Spelling mistakes are not just due to dyslexia, they are due to simple laziness and ineptitude.

I think posts like this show a simple ignorance to the plight of people who are less fortunate than you. You should consider yourself extremely lucky.

Spelling mistakes irritate me as well, people should be able to speak english I agree, but posts such as this one aren't really going to help...

I think the OP was trying to make a point of the people that hide behind the term dyslexic when they are just plain ignorant.
There was never any doubting that dyslexia is indeed a recognised handicap, whereas stupidity is not although it is more prevalent.

With the education system as it is now, with teachers too scared to discipline their pupils in case of reprisals from the half-wit parents, will will inevitably see the rise of mal-educated cretins roaming the streets, and those individuals also (unfortunately) have access to the internet.

Or just plain lazy. Too lazy to press the shift key when required for example. Too lazy to click the spell-check button.

And the problem is too many are allowed to get away with it unchecked and after a while it becomes the norm and standards just go down and down. This is happening more and more on ASN for example.

Yeah Welly you have misunderstood the point the OP was making mate.

OK, fair enough, but I don't withdraw what I said and I hope that my point has made you all think a little.

I get frustrated by people's lack of grammar, proper punctuation and use of capital letters as much as anyone!

I'll put the claws away now :(

No one is perfect and we all make mistakes.

Stop bitching about it.

Nobody minds mistakes, but we are talking about bone idleness here!

If people want to have a look at impeccable grammar and sentence structure, please feel free to wade through my post history. I'm sure you'll find each post to be informative, erudite and downright charming.

& if you could lick your own balls you would, lol

Correct, i was saying that a lot of the ones that are lazy/a bit dim try and hide this fact by calling themselves dyslexic

I knew a kid in school who had real reading/writing problems, because he had dyslexia, but i swear that another kid just wanted to be labelled the same because he was a bit lazy with his work and got away with it....really annoyed me :gun2:

Didn't mean to cause offense to anyone, wasn't saying that all dyslexic people are idiots or anything, just saying that a lot of people use dyslexia as an excuse

And thank you all for pointing out my spelling mistakes :whistle2:

Tell me Jord, was this all from the said forum that you're a Super Moderator on?

And to be honest you come across as one of the lazy people we were talking about earlier in this thread.

You either don't know how to type properly or you're too lazy to type properly.

So you've summed up my entire attitude from one post where I tried to point out to someone that the information they were after had already been posted in the FAQs thread? What I was trying to do was help the person out but also help them out in future by highlighting the very useful thread that's there to help people out in the hope that they might use it in the future.

Whether I made the post in the FAQs or not, or even contributed to the thread they might find their answers in matters not to me, I just like to help people out in the same way that others have helped me massively over the years. I think perhaps you've taken one little event and read too much into it.

I didn't know there was a rule against double posting and I certainly haven't told anyone off for it so I dunno where the double standards are you speak of. I've only been modding for 8 months and welcome any advice if you think I've made an error in judgement. By PM preferably bud.

Saluting to Leon at the top of that tree:

Touched a nerve N8 or just a sense of humour failure?

Is this reply just to back up your mate cause something was said by someone with some balls to say what they think.
lazy im not, my spelling and grammer may not be to your standard and for that im deeply sorry, i wasnt aware it was an english exam, i thought it was a car forum.

why would you want me to pm you.
my point exactly, anything good and you jump at it, taking the glory, weather its your bag or not, so it seems to me, anything slightly neg and you want to deal with it privately.
as for me summing up your attitude from one post, do you honestly think that statement was worth typing.
ive clearly been a member for a while now and follow alot of threads, just because i dont post up every two minutes doesnt mean i cant read.
several times youve commented about double posting, along with posting in wrong sections . following some of your threads, your clearly guilty of the same thing, which is my point .
so dont make out your whiter than white.
your reply to my post is an example of how you come across to me, " im helping, i like to help, i i i i i ", then turn it round and tell me ive taken one little event and read to much into it.
you big yourself up and belittle others.

h5djr, if this is not to your satisfaction TUFF !

Glory? What glory?!

anything slightly neg and you want to deal with it privately.

Well I think it's courteous to deal with things privately. Over the course of the 8 months in position, both Dave and I were flamed for dealing with negative things publicly it's no different in reverse.

as for me summing up your attitude from one post, do you honestly think that statement was worth typing.

Yes.

youve commented about double posting,

Oh do you mean creating multiple threads to ask multiple question? Or do you mean posting a link to a link as you first mentioned?

along with posting in wrong sections .

We have sections for a reason. We don't move them all but there has to be a line somewhere don't you think?

following some of your threads, your clearly guilty of the same thing, which is my point .

An example please?

so dont make out your whiter than white.

I'm not. I'm the first to admit my mistakes if someone points them out.

your reply to my post is an example of how you come across to me, " im helping, i like to help, i i i i i ",

Right so it's wrong to say that I like to help people then yeah? because that means I'm self centred of course.

then turn it round and tell me ive taken one little event and read to much into it.

You only gave one example so whatyagonnado?

you big yourself up and belittle others.

Well I'm not entirely sure why me poking a bit of fun at N8 and his love affair with Nigel (another joke BTW) has caused this sudden outburst from you 1WO. Merry Christmas anyway
