Mate, we are all gutted for you. That is so unlucky. Perhaps you could write to Audi and explain what happened. Maybe they will help you out in some way for your next car.

Just remember that no matter how bad it seems, you still have your family.
 
Firstly I would like to say hello to everyone.

After reading this topic I purposely joined the site so I could post a reply. Sounds a bit soppy but this bought tears to my eyes and brought back my bad memory of what happened to me. I had my A5 stolen back in May this year, they had come through the back door while I was upstairs. The door was closed but not locked and my keys were on the kitchen table next to my bag. They came in around 9pm that night but I didn't notice the car keys were missing until I looked out of the front window the following morning to see the car had gone. Called the police and they came out straight away as I was on my own and the spare house key was also on the car key. Police advised me that they would probably park the car up a couple of miles away either on a street or even a supermarket for a couple of days to see if the car would be traced via tracker. Mine didn't have one unfortunately. I was absolutely terrified thinking that the Insurance would decline the claim as I had left my door unlocked. I must say though the Insurance company were good and everything was done over the phone and the waiting period was 30 days before they settled. However the downside was that I wasn't entitled to a courtesy car as mine had been stolen. I didn't have gap insurance and thought they would just offer me market value. The car was just 3 weeks from being 12 months old and someone told me to check my policy which did state if I was the first registered keeper and the car was under 12 months old they would replace with a new car. After 30 days I got a phone call to say they had authorised replacement but the lead time for my new car to be built was 4 months! I eventually got my new one in September, but to be honest, it's great to have the car back but the incident has made me paranoid and got me thinking is it worth all the stress and hassle of owning a nice car as I had another attempted break in 6 weeks ago but luckily we heard them before they managed to get the lock of the door. Husband went on the internet and was mortified how easy it is to break in, the eu locks are crap and it takes them about 30 seconds to snap the lock and get in. Iv'e beefed up security with anti snap locks and door sash jammers, and a security post fitted at the back of the car.

I would just like to say I'm really sorry and gutted for you and thankfully you and your family are ok. Unfortunately the scumbags don't care what the impact and consequences they cause to hard working people. But I believe in karma and what goes around, comes around!
 
The above story has just reminded me to replace the locks in all our doors.

Words will mean very little at the moment but, the main thing is that you and your family (and the dog) are all okay.

I would suggest still pursuing the insurance company but, doing so in writing not over the phone. If you need help with this let me know - hopefully it is one of the big insurers who are sometimes sympathetic.

im so very sorry to hear whats happened mate, i know nothing anyone can say will make it better,i,ve had two attempts on my car and i have to say it,s a bad feeling and i was lucky that they didn,t get it, i agree that there getting info on new cars and addresses from somewhere, i hope your cars found and these low life scum are made to pay the old fashioned way.

I'd just like to add that as shelltell has said euro locks are very easy to snap off to break in, but the newer way of breaking in involves bumping the lock - search on youtube for lock bumping and you will find hundreds of videos showing you how to do this - some of them even have 8+ million views..........

The best thing you can do is to get decent locks fitted. I went with EVVE 3ks locks which can't be bumped like the standard locks:

You can also get uprated handles which will help prevent attacking the lock if they can't bump it:

I was going to mention this as this is where my husband discovered it on u tube and how they bump the lock which shocks the mechanism inside to release the door lock in a matter of seconds. Basically they can buy a bumping key off site's such as ebay and insert it in your lock and tap it with any heavy object which shocks the mechanism along with a turn bumping key, hence the door opens.
 
I would just like to thank Pat for sharing this thread through these hard times, I should be seeing him tomorrow, he's brought to our attention how important security is.

I am a member of a few car forums and this is the first time I have seen anything like this posted - crypric - you must be devastated - lets hope you can put the ordeal to the back of your mind and have a happy xmas with your family and friends.

Sorry to hear about what you have been through man!

We were broken into a few months ago while the missis was pregnant, neither of us were home but left us feeling absolutely gutted and the missis was scared to be in her own home, especially in her condition. The dog in my pic was missing when I got home and found him in the cuboard, feck knows how they got him in there cus I wouldn't be able to!

We went throught the same process of installing to alarm system, with phone and text alerts, i even installed a wireless webcam so I can check on the house using my iphone when im out!

All i can say is time is a healer and you will slowly start getting your selfs back to normal... I still have days thinking I wish I could get my hands on the scum though!
 
Hi, I don’t own an Audi and never have but your post was linked onto another car forum site from which I am a member so I have registered to post a reply with an idea that may help (or may not, but it’s worth mentioning on the off chance it does)

You said in the opening post that the thieves stole both yours and your partner’s mobile phones, are the police not able to trace a signal from either of them to give a clue as to the whereabouts of your car? Surely this will be possible.

I hope my post may have helped and my deepest regrets to you and your family.

I understand there is a way to track a mobile by the EMEI number - if you want to go down this route speak to your service provider:icon_thumright:

This is true also. THE IMEI number can be tracked regardless of the network provider. Depends if they still have the phones etc but it's a route to follow maybe.

I agree mate the same happened to me what happened to cypric its just absolutely heart braking ...

I agree with arming up and just shoot the feckers when they walk in your bedroom just say there was a struggle you took the gun of them and blam ..its your word against there's ..

Just keep something in the room i got a big ornamental sword and id seriously just run em through and do the time if i had to , You can disagree but when it's happened to you , you'll change your mind ppor guy i feel for you mate it' sickening i didnt sleep properly for month and still have panick attacks at night ....

No god in this world Pat, just pure luck tbh as usually it would of been shipped or stripped by now, thats some xmas present as such, albeit 1st being stolen was crap, but I'm sure the insurance is the 1st thing sorted now you have it back or shortly huh, lesson learnt even if it was a extremely painful one.

I would lay a bet on you changing insurers though huh :)

Give it a good scrub and try and forget about it (after you've done the locks on the house, fitted 3 alarms, tripwire, bear trap, and got a bear to help the dog out)

Proper happy for you - alright scum have touched the car and you may never be able to disassociate the car from what's happened but hey, still better than being 40 grand down :thumbsup:
 
Well well seems there is someone looking down on you. Hope there is no nasty surprises once you get it home. Did the plice tell you how it turned up and did they catch anyone

Good news, Patrick, you must be very relieved. I was gutted for you reading the original post but very pleased to hear you'll get the car back and there isn't too much damage.

I know it will never be the same car in your mind but its good you have it back. Was it found abandoned or was somebody caught with it?
